      Trust almost no academies or departments spray that much. Some academies only take this test to use pepper spray. You are not granted permission of the weapon without being struck by it. Same thing goes for a taser.

We need you guys to become cops because you have empathy for the victims. Those who get off work on power are the large percentage of people who join the academy. If you're kind and empathetic then you can become that good cop you've never seen before.

    • @badcaseofstripes
      @badcaseofstripes 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sadly being a good person does not make a good cop. The reason is because the laws are corrupt. They are law enforcement officers, meaning they have to enforce corrupt laws. If they choose not to enforce the obviously unnecessary/inhumane/corrupt laws because they choose to do the right thing, they are reprimanded, punished, demoted, or fired. Good cops in previous decades could get away with being actually good in terms of letting people loose, not enforcing certain BS laws, and giving out more warnings. Now with bodycams it's nearly impossible for cops to let anything slide, and are forced into doing things they otherwise wouldn't do because they know they'll have their superiors breathing down their neck if they don't. Not that bodycams are bad, it's just highlighted more and more of the corruption of the legal system.

      Don't worry about it. Pain is temporary, whether it's a day (like the spray) a few seconds (like being tased). The worse pain of all is looking back on your life and realizing you never did want you wanted to do and living with that regret. This pain is necessary for officers to understand what they're using on their fellow citizens.

    • @lucasritzman
      @lucasritzman 8 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Micheal Culbertson thanks so much. This helps a lot bro you don't even know.

    • @intimidatingpanda8560
      @intimidatingpanda8560 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lucas Ritzman Yep. Just as what Michael said! However, being tased is now only voluntary due to some Recruits having to be hospitalized. Most Police Departments around the countries now require you to be OC sprayed (as seen in the video) and perform some duties, such as handcuffing, fighting, and saying definitions verbatim. Some Police Departments, as far as I'm concerned, set off CS gas (tear gas) and do (a) command(s) ordered by the Commanding Officer(s). The CS and OC lasts for an hour. As what Michael said, to say it again, Police Departments have their Recruits do this for simply one reason, and no. It is not torture. It is so Officers can "fit themselves into the shoes" of the suspect when they get OC sprayed or CS, like what happened in Ferguson. So the Officers can provide a bit more understanding and symphony of the situation.

  • @blucky9275
    @blucky9275 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Ok, The first part of the video has too many people spraying the student with 3-4 in civilian clothes (not sure what that's all about.) Next, holding the eyes open and using the stream can cause hydraulic needle effect, which is pressure from the propellent driving spray particles into the soft tissue, risking serious and permanent injury to the eyes (unnecessary.) The instructor continues to spray when about 2 feet away, which just pushes solvent and carriers and not much of the actual OC. Causing the student to mostly get the carrier instead of the actual inflammatory agent. The drill is meant to expose the officer to (blow back) not direct hits, especially with 3-5 people spraying. Some of the drills that they used after the exposure where great, I just don't think the actual exposure was done safely and correctly.And yes, I am an Instructor and have exposed around 1500-2000 students throughout the years. I've been exposed myself many times for training purposes also. Yes it does suck but it is very beneficial for officers.

It keeps them from being cruel or reacting out of fear. And I'm speaking as a person of color. What you should do is encourage and help cops. A lot of them feel lonely and misunderstood by society and we should reach back to them. It's like dealing with vets to a degree. Help people and quit tearing them down to make you feel better about yourself. It just isn't productive.

  • @wiseborn2172
    @wiseborn2172 11 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    OC spray is NOT to be used for lethal situations. On the force continuum scale cops use in volatile situations it usually comes after verbal commands are repeatedly ignored by a person exhibiting increasingly dangerous or unstable behavior. Lethal force situations require a firearm. Depending on the situation, a cop might have to go from verbal warnings to lethal force.

      Nope, only 20% are "corrupt" ... 30% are gung-ho robocop assholes with an IQ of maybe 80 that think they're god. 25% are the ones who used to get stuffed in lockers at school and pissed on at parties and have some pent up revenge they take out on the public. 3% are genuinely good people all around. The remaining 2% are the killers, rapists, and some of the most disgusting people on the planet... They should be sitting in prison instead of the estimated 15% of people incarcerated in this country (more like 33.333%) who are only locked up because of the 97% that are shitbags... With some help from the corrupt DAs and Judges of course.

      Lol I got pepper sprayed by my friend it was a experiment to see what it felt like, Plus It doesn't physically stop some one if anything it just makes you angrier. I feel a taser is much more effective it causes muscles to convulse so it is extremely hard to move or even control your movements. Plus it doesn't last for 30 minutes so you don't have somebody in jail still acting violently with officers.

    • @bweit8724
      @bweit8724 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Everything officers carry with them has its advantages and disadvantages. Tasers can stop someones heart if they have the wrong heart defect. Ive been sprayed though training and in my opinion its better then a knock-down-drag-out scuffle where the risk of substantial or even great bodily harm arises. People have died from, OC spray, impact weapons, lateral restraint maneuvers (PC for choke holds) , tasers, of course firearms. What many people fail to realize is that the majority of the time its the defendant, not the officer that picks the type of response. Tasers are great but not a total replacement of OC. A single officer can't engage more then one assailant with a Taser, but may see that deadly force isn't his/her only option. An attack that may overwhelm the officer and leave their firearm exposed can be met with deadly force(use of deadly force verys from state to state, but most recognize that issue). If i knew that i could gain an advantage over two or more, or even level the ground with the deployment of OC, I'd be pretty disappointed to not have it on my service belt.
      PS glad to didnt get overly defensive by my comment

    • @battlestarone
      @battlestarone 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      i don't think i should be illegal but it seems more police are using it as an easy option to settle a situation rather than using good old fashioned policing,in Scotland if an officer uses his maze he has to do a whole load of paperwork as its classed as a side arm like a gun...my brother in law just retired from Glasgow city police and never !! used his pepper spray once in over 20yrs service !!!

    Getting sprayed is hard to describe
    It’s like sticky tar with sharp glass. The more you try and move your facial/eye expression, the worse it gets.
    It’s reactive to heat and sunlight and can be cured with cold water and time. Milk and baby shampoo are said to be affective against the spray

    I went through this exact same academy 15 years ago and had to go through some of the same things they showed in this vid so apparently not much has changed. We didn't get questioned by the instructor about random RCW etc. like these kids though. We had four stations we had to successfully complete before doing the 5 minute decon. What I thought was stupid and unrealistic was having to run the person's driver's license after being sprayed. Not gonna happen in the field but whatever. Oh and we had the doors and windows to the car closed when we had to read the license so it got really hot in there. And the multiple cans of spray used at once...yup that's real at that particular academy. But realistically 2 cans or 4 cans it doesn't matter once the pain starts your face goes numb anyway so you can't tell the difference. My source: Being directly face sprayed 4x in my career.
