The Seekers are an Australian band.....Judith Durham's voice is so pure it just cuts right through. I never had heard this song until a month ago and I am in my 60's...love it! Their big hit was "Georgie Girl" which is also fire!
The Beatles recorded their first Album in the studio in ONE day! 14 songs in total. George Martin, their producer said the longer the day got, the better they boy's played and sang. No auto tune, no session players, no tricks. Just talent.
There will never be another Seekers but a modern band like London Grammar make equally beautiful music with a sublime female lead singer in Hannah Reid. Listen to "America" or "What a day" = Fantastic music and vocals !
This is one of my all-time favorites. I loved it as a kid in the '60s & love it even more now. Two more big hits by them you're sure to enjoy are "A World of Our Own" and "Georgie Girl".
I grew up listening to my Grandpa play his Seekers LPs. National treasure in this country. There’s no bad songs. The Carnival Is Over will make you cry.
This is such a beautiful song and the Seekers were amazing ! There was another band on the charts at the same time and the band is called Spanking and our Gang gang and they have a song called Sunday will never be the same ! If you enjoyed this you will enjoy that song as well ! The early mid-sixties were a great time for this kind of music !
This was in the abbey road studio, london, where the beatles worked a lot. They worked a ship over to there and got work for a few years. Eventually came back, Judith quit, feeling inadequate. They reformed a few times down the years. She was so amazing.
The Seekers were one of my favorite groups back in the day. Just beautiful raw talent. I think your right about our dependance on technology now days affecting our abilities not only in music but people seem to be losing their abiltity to think logically.
This was not only recorded at Abby Road, but in the main studio that was usually reserved for the owners ... The Beatles... their producer was Dusty Springfield's brother Tom. Judith passed away recently, but even with her health problems she never lost her tone. If I am not mistaken this song knocked the Beatles out of #1 on the charts As aside comment, you are correct about what you say about one take. Frank Sinatra was notorious for perfecting a song in rehearsal to the point he almost never required more than one take. But that's another story...
My Dad's favourite band, he has all the albums (vinyl) he got me to listen to this when I was small and now it's one of my favourite songs now, thank you for reacting to it.
I remember when this song first came out. Although Auto-Tune is okay, it takes away the heart felt effort of the singer(s). It would be refreshing to have a performer go back to work and know that they got the song spot on.
I didn't particularly like this group at the time, (I was very young) but, I can appreciate them now. They are from Australia & the female singer died in 2022. Georgy Girl is another of their hits. Judith Durham was the singer.
Pure music played by real musicians, not a PC in sight, oh how times have changed for the worse with the modern technology that creates false music and is nothing more than magicians tricks to make shit sound better. Thanks for taking me back to my youth with a song I have not heard in years. I was never much of a fan of The Seekers as I was more into Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple etc. My own musical journey led me to become a blues vocalist after I started in rock, but this is so pure and real and takes me back to when music was music. Thank you.
We lost Judith about a year ago. she had the most beautiful voice and attitude, and the we lost the same in Olivia Newton John around the same time. What sad time for Australia and world. The song may as well be about both of them.
I Believe you are right I think that people today are more interested in the image of the artist than actual talent back then, there was no music vids to see the artist the music stood on its own merit
My only gripe about this masterpiece of folk music is that song goes by and ends so fast. So, therefore I have to listen to it about five or six times.
The story is told that a farmer heard that if he piped music into his barn, it would calm his livestock. He tried it and the next day his prize ram had committed suicide. When the veterinarian asked him what song he had played this was the song he noted.
Great reaction and performance. Today’s musicians could get it right in one or two takes as long as they have talent. In 1965 studio musicians with one member of the Byrds (Roger McGuinn) recorded two songs in one hour which included “Mr Tambourine Man.” Later the band members insisted on doing it themselves. It took 77 takes to get “Turn, Turn, Turn.” The studio musicians (The Wrecking Crew) were better than the band. Talent usually wins.
There was a time artists had talent. Then MTV came along (don't get me wrong, love MTV) and the talent took a backseat to "what do they look like, for the video?" ❤✌️
I'm pretty sure they are mock rocking to the actual record. Back in 1964 you could never get a straight live mix that well balanced through a PA system. They didn't actually have official music videos until 1980 at the earliest. All these musical artist clips were broadcasted on TV then years later branded as the official music video.
Gday TNT , I'm Derek or defa, Des etc and I'm an Aussie, luv ya work mate. If you get a chance try Alvin Lee's Bluest Blues with George Harrison. A longer song but unreal. Alvin Lee was the Lead Guitarist, singer and songwriter of Ten Years After.
Listen to the Seekers version of Kumbaya, so beautiful, but it will break you. No one has ever sung to God as Judith did. Enjoy watching both of you, you're so infectious. 😁😁
Like many of the Seekers other hits, this was written and produced by Tom Springfield, Dusty Springfield's brother. Judith Durham has as perfect voice.
I love folk music, especially with a female presence. Judith Durham's gorgeous voice melts in with the masculine voices beautifully. Judith last summer, unfortunately. They had a lot of hits and made a lot of records. Their rabbit hole is worth diving into.
The seekers were bigger than Beatles and stones back in the 60s had more hits such a brilliant band had some fabulous songs timeless classics..the engineers back then were just better I believe doses technology today make the job any easier or more complicated. ..
Grandgrandpa 72 here. In the Studio on a 8 Track Recorder. Mix up later. No electronic on the Voices or Instruments. You have to be good. To Day, no more.
It’s not that people are lazy but good music doesn’t sell. It’s all about the look and marketability hence the popular American Idol and the Voice and the Got Talent franchise.
im not big on current music but if they had to do it without autotune they would probably find they would be better musicians and singers than they thought they were. i mean its so bad that even gen y people know that its a load of rubbish. stupid music company's are trying to speed up artists before they are ready.

RIP Judith. Beautiful.
Yes she was on the summit for beautiful people
Judith's beautiful voice. Wow.
I think she has one of the best voices of all time.
Her voice was wonderful and their harmonies were fluid. And to think they were able to get this sound without autotune
I've always loved this song ❤️
Simple, sweet, soulful, touching harmonies. Timeless
This just brought me back in time to the mid 60s. Loved the Seekers. Judith’s voice was so smooth and angelic!! Loved this!!
One of the greatest songs/voice of all time!
It's nearly 3am in London and you're right,my friend..
I was 11 years old then truly so honored to be apart of that generation.
Fantastic song from a brilliant group.
Check out Judith soloing on Oh Danny Boy, it's perfect!! 😍
The Seekers take me back to my childhood, I truly love hearing these guys.
The Beatles recorded their first Album in the studio in ONE day! 14 songs in total. George Martin, their producer said the longer the day got, the better they boy's played and sang. No auto tune, no session players, no tricks. Just talent.
Beautiful blast from the past, they don't make them like this anymore unfortunately. Thanks for doing the reaction!
There will never be another Seekers but a modern band like London Grammar make equally beautiful music with a sublime female lead singer in Hannah Reid.
Listen to "America" or "What a day" = Fantastic music and vocals !
They are so good. !! Unfortunately Judith pass away awhile ago. Real missed. The Song is Beautiful to say the least.
I remember when this was always on the radio. Loved it then--love it now!

National treasures in Australia. They had a number of hits - "Georgy Girl" and "The Carnival is Over" are both worth reacting to.

To get the full Judith Durham 'effect', you need to check out her solo live version of Oh Danny Boy!
It's perfect 😍
Happy to be a Baby Boomer with the great music we grew up with! 1960s 70s

❤😂🎉 Love this song, I sang this to my hubby on our Anniversary one year..
My wife died two years ago leaving me with 39 years or wonderful memories, and I know I'll never find another her. I cry every time I hear this song.
Iconic Australian Band, Judy Durham was loved by so many unfortunately passed away just recently

Big, deep pool when it comes to the "folk music" of the sixties and seventies. Nice to see someone "dipping their toe"!
We lost Judith about a year ago. she had the most beautiful voice and attitude, and the we lost the same in Olivia Newton John around the same time. What sad time for Australia and world. The song may as well be about both of them.
one of the most famous recording studios in history, one person out 20 picked up on that.
When Judith Durham sang Angels wept from jealousy.
🤢
Nice! love this song.

RIP Judith Durham. You should listen ‘ The Carnival Is Over’. A great Australian Band!
Recorded at the famous Abbey Road Studios, London ,UK
My only gripe about this masterpiece of folk music is that song goes by and ends so fast. So, therefore I have to listen to it about five or six times.
I believe this is Abbey Road Studios in London where the Beatles and many other great bands and artists recorded

Very nice!

Well said
We've lost so much as people. I say make DECENCY great again! For ALL of us!!🤘🤘
Thank you for reacting to this brilliant Australian talent.

Angelina Jordan did many of her songs with first recording.
If you like Mamas and the Papas, you should like this. I hadn't heard them before but it was a pleasant surprise.
Like many of the Seekers other hits, this was written and produced by Tom Springfield, Dusty Springfield's brother. Judith Durham has as perfect voice.

can i suggest you look at their track "the northern lights" :) it's one of my faves.
Back when the talent made recording, not a computer controlled correction

Great video but Athol Guy should have left those heavy black glasses off for the shoot, so distracting!
Yes I agree he looks the least likely pop singer ever, more like a serial killer
Hello
Howdy!
Hiya kid
