  • May 2023: new Firmware 0.60 available!
    new MIDI PC messages:
    - PC 71 Play: always initiates the PLAY function unless the loop is empty. Won’t start an overdub, record, or stop playback.
    - PC 72 Record/Dub: always initiates the REC or OVERDUB function. 1440 will choose the correct function based on the current state. On an empty loop, PC 72 starts a recording. PC 72 starts an overdub on a playing loop, or immediately starts overdub and playback on a stopped loop. Can also close recordings and overdubs but can’t stop a loop.
    - PC 128 Direct Loop Erase. Immediately erases the loop of the currently selected loop bank, with no extra confirmation. Caution! Once the loop is erased, it is gone forever, this function cannot be undone.
    Bug Fixes
    - fixed a bug where MIDI PC messages 32 (RV.OC) and 33 (STOP) would change the function of the STOP/FX footswitch; now these two PC messages only perform their respective commands and leave the STOP footswitch setting as it was
    - occasionally the LOOP footswitch would not queue playback in EXT CLK mode. This is reliably working now"
    - repeated PC/CC messages wouldn’t be processed while in EXT CLK mode with a MIDI Clock signal running to the 1440. The PC/CC messages are no longer ignored in this scenario
    The EHX 1440 Stereo Looper is a cool live-looping device, which continues the lineage of the 720, another great compact stereo looper by Electro Harmonix.
    On December 2020, EHX released a new firmware 0.57 for the 1440, which enhances new features, improved Midi Clock stability and mainly full MIDI Mapping of EVERY 1440's parameters and functions!
    This video will explain you how I use 1440, its new features, and show few examples of functions controlled with MIDI, using a Morning Star MC3 Midi Controller.

    These are the new features of firmware update 0.57:
    - Improved MIDI clock stability over a wide range of external MIDI Clock source
    - Midi Continue messages are now treated the same as MIDI Start messages
    - The 1440 now saves each loop bank’s fade setting through loop erases and power cycles
    - Added 1440 support for MIDI Program Change (PC) and Control Change (CC) messages
    - MIDI receive channel support added

    Great video and thanks. Can you advice on how to set up an external expression pedal to control the tempo? If that's not possible then what about having an external footswitch to send tap tempo? Thanks

    • @JoelGilardini
      @JoelGilardini  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't think you can tap tempo on 1440. IT's not a feature I need to be honest. TO have the tempo on an expression pedal you need a midi footcontroller with ports for expression pedals, like Morning Star Engineering MC, or the Disaster Area MidiBaby. Then you can assign the corresponding Tempo Knob midi CC to the expression port.

    Great review of the new MIDI features Joel. Could you please let us know if this pedal can kill the dry signal? cheers

    • @JoelGilardini
      @JoelGilardini  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're welcome and thank you! No, 1440 doesn't have a dry kill. It's another those simple features that many big brands skip when creating loopers... and I know how useful it is!

      @@JoelGilardini thanks for letting me know this Joel. the 1440 ticks all the fundamental boxes for me with the exception of kill dry. Same thing with the pigtronix infinity.. cheers

      @JoelGilardini  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@pangea2003 yes, I also used to have the Infinity (old version) prior getting the LP2, and I always wondered why pigtronix never implemented the kill-dry (but I know people who modified the unit to do it). The newer Infinity is also a total disappointment... to me it is the old I finity re-housed in a new enclosure. I was expecting something better.
      Looperlative LP2 has kill-dry btw: on the back there's a mix knob that allows you to do it. You may have a look at the LP2, it costs less than Infinity and has better features IMHO.

      @@JoelGilardini I am actually looking for something like the 1440 in terms of size, knob parameters, easy to use, stereo, MIDI functions, and price.. it ticks all my boxes with the exception of kill dry.. so it ruins pretty much everything for what I want.. have you tried the MIDI Clock with the 1440? is it any good? Cheers

      @@pangea2003 i don't use the midi clock normally, but I did few tests with an Elektron Digitone, and to me it is solid.

    Hey, thanks for this video ! Meanwhile impossible for me to map the ERASE function using a Softstep foot switch. All the rest works flawlessly following EHX midi mapping. This 3 x PC 34 is a drag, I tried every combination, long press, etc. Any idea ?

    • @JoelGilardini
      @JoelGilardini  ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a new firmware coming soon from what I know, and the the Erase command shall be mapped to a dediceted Midi message.
