    Even though they borrowed styling cues from the US and Britain, Mazda made some great designs in the 60s and 70s and this is definitely one of them! You did a great job of highlighting these in this video!

    • @wasabicars
      @wasabicars  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. This particular car broke my heart. About a year ago I saw it again and it's been given the full-boso treatment. Paint job, massive overfenders, grille and tail garnish removed, front-mounted oil cooler, etc... Sad. It was literally the only one I'd seen in Japan

    • @erkbzr

    I used to work for a Mazda Agency in Chadwell Heath UK, I had forgotten all about these , we used to sell loads of RX3's and the failure rate of the engines was amazing but what I liked about these were you could get the engine out and stripped down in about an hour and with only about four spanners not including the big crankshaft spanner. Boy! did they fly.

    stunning car Dan! looks brilliant! Mazda really do a bloody good job on design!
    here in NZ we are a country which has a VERY high amount of Japanese imports sent here. we always have which means that a LOT of common Japanese cars there in Japan we have here, what i love seeing are the really unusual ones that don't arrive here. those are the videos of your I'll click on fastest but tbh, i generally find myself marathoning around 4-5 of your most recent videos whenever i can! always careful to like and comment on each one too as you put in a lot of work and i really enjoy the content :)
    qotd: really liking this weather we've had lately. we just got out of 2 weeks of torrential storms in my part of NZ and now we're being rewarded with beautiful sun and long daylight hours into the evening :)!

    QOTD: I'm loving the fact that spring is just around the corner here in Finland. This is the only time I actually enjoy the snow and cold 'cause the sun has finally started to shine for more than 20 minutes. Also, I can start prepping my RX7 for the upcoming summer!

    I actually skip the Mazda ones usually, not particularly a rotary fan but I really dig this car and always salivate for a nice FC RX-7. Yes, Mazda interests me the most.. more please!! : ) Loved seeing this Japanese spec Luce hardtop and would be rare these days in Japan but thankfully there's a few RX4 still getting around near me in Australia to gaze upon at car events : ) Love'em...I own a sedan but have loved the looks of the early coupe, especially in white since I was first bitten by the rotary bug some 20 years ago. RX3 and RX2 still seem to be around in greater numbers here though still rare enough. The RX4 sightings are fewer between. I love my sedan but my dream garage would have a coupe too... oh & a rotary converted wagon also : ) they're around too but even rarer & considering Rotary powered RX4/Luce Wagon's were not sold new in Australia. The wagons were all 929 4cyl here... I seen a local guy did import an original Luce wagon in from Japan a few year ago though...
    Do you guess I love Luce/RX4/929....OH YEAH : ) thank you Simon from Wasabi Cars! Cheers

    I love 70s Japanese cars like this and the Colt Celeste which were scaled down approximations of US muscle cars - which ironically is exactly why many people disliked them at the time, particularly here in the UK. I remember as a young teenager looking at RX4 coupes sitting on the lot of the local Mazda dealer and thinking that they looked kinda cool - but that you'd never get taken seriously if you owned one. Now, when it's too late of course, we realise that they were 'cool as' all along - and Dan, I don't care who your modding mates are - tell them to remove those ridiculous wheels and leave it as stock, or I'll be over there to sort 'em out.....

    The best RX4 I have ever seen was a black 2 door coupe the Black Widow in Melbourne when it idled it would rock from side to side. Seeing it takeoff at a set of lights having a drag with a Ninja flames coming out of the twin exhaust through the gear change, and chirping through the gear change. I’v never forgotten the fastest car I have ever seen. Who knows where that is now?

    Yes Daniel, I watch many Mazda videos and lots of yours. The 929 was Mazda's flagship model in the 70's and thus expensive but still sold well. It replaced the Mazda 1800 but carried over it's 1769cc engine. The engine in the 929 had quite a lot of torque but like all Mazda engines at the time, would stall if driven when cold. The 929 also came as a large and useful wagon and coupe. Only the coupe had a nice dash which I think had a tacho and roof console. The RX4 auto could be a handful with a delay in changing down then sometimes lurching from 3rd to 1st. The RX4 was naturally even more expensive than the 929 and it's lumpy styling compared to the rather pretty RX2 and RX3 combined with a high price did little for sales. The RX3 in the day was relatively affordable when new compared to competition. The RX5 was the final nail for Mazda and was hated by motoring journalists and an original one now is super rare. The RX7 was a car specifically designed for the rotary and improved things again for Toyo Kogyo.

    So the RE12 has the 12A rotary engine fitted?
    I remember about 30 years ago we had someone come to our house in a Mazda coupe which looked like that but I'm not sure if it had a rotary engine in it or not.
    He was selling encyclopedia s or something & we got that blow up sphere of the world with its map printed on it.
    My grandmother used to drive a 1979 Mazda 626 after my grandfather went behind her back & traded her Toyota Corona in for it,maybe he thought that the Mazda was a better car & she drove a Daihatsu Delta truck which is basically a Toyota anyway.
    She traded the Mazda in for a brand new 1989 Corolla (Australian built) after she divorced him in 1988,she had driven a 1996 & 2000 model Corolla which my auntie helped her buy as she was a pensioner until she died in 2006,my mother still drives the 2000 model Corolla which has about 204,000 kms on the odometer now.
    I loved my grandmother & I still do,he had some of that Ukrainian in her & most likely some north Asian in her.
    I seem to be attracted to more that sort of woman so I have to find out why a woman whose like that can't keep her eyes off me (oriental).
    I know the likes of Kumi Taguchi likes a man whose like me !!!!

      Lol. I thought I made it pretty clear in the beginning that this might be a car that's common where you live... but not in Japan.

    Hi, you know the subtitles are a bit annoying...? You didn't have this a few years ago... Why now..? Thanks all the same! Killer car!

    • @wasabicars
      @wasabicars  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can turn them off, you know... As for why I do now: A large number of people watch video without sound. I know, I don't believe it either. Also, having an accurate script will help TH-cam/google understand the contents of the video better. Finally, that accurate script can also be used as a basis for translating it into other languages.

    was it a finger tip or floor shift?

    • @wasabicars
      @wasabicars  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Floor shift for sure. Actually, what do you mean with finger tip? Column shift?

    • @wasabicars
      @wasabicars  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Push button?

    • @kaadesubrattee59
      @kaadesubrattee59 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup column shift. In my country we call it finger tip( don't know y)
      The few that i came across was column shift and kind of weird to drive.
      They are a real gem to find.

      Well, I appreciate the honesty. I will say that there's a chance you're missing out because I try to include, however brief, a variety of cars in feature car vids.
