This is my first video using two camcorders. I really do not know if they had a particular technique firing this. But most of the time pyrotechnicians just try to keep things moving along to prevent too much dark sky. Flights of two or three here and there is also a good idea.
There were over 280 shells in the finale. Surprisingly a lot of what is done in fireworks has not changed over the years. When you do a simple low budget show all you need are the basics. Drop and fire. These little festival displays are the bread and butter for most fireworks companies. Not everyone can afford a choreographed pyro musical.
Seems like whoever pays for the show doesn't want to spend much but it was a good small show. Finale was only 100 or so shells. Just when you think fireworks have come a long way you see the 2 guys straddling the tubes struggling with aluminum foil. Too funny. Good job Dave.
That is great ,it is nice to hear people are starting to light things up a little. Soon the High Holiday for pyros will be upon us here in the USA.. July 4th.I can smell the smoke now.LOL
I guess things are done a little differently with a smaller display. Not every fireworks display can look like the big city productions. These little festival type displays are typically done in this fashion. Plus the sponsor of the event has some say in how long they want the display to last. Sometimes if you fire to fast you wash out the previous shells so it is a delicate balance. They may shoot differently in the Netherlands where you are from. So a small USA display may look different
Perhaps in did not show up well in the video but houses and the audience were very close to the shoot site. You are pretty critical. What you guys shooting over there in Slovenia that you find this so boring?
The plastic around each shell is to keep shell dry if it encounters moisture before being fired. The plastic is super thin and light. If the shell got "damaged" during shipping so would the cheap plastic wrap. Shell is much stronger than the plastic, if shell encountered a force strong enough to damage it, the plastic would have no chance of protecting the shell. According to a spokesperson for the Grucci family. Might be used to catch leaking chemicals for another company?
hi dave, the show was great, but i hope they must do a flights/combo of shells all the time during the body of the show to make it more enjoyable, maybe a 2" shell top with a 3"/4" shell, single's are good but the the interval of each shot is a little late, maybe they can make a burst to ignition technique, wherein when shell burst the next shell is already launch/ignited..just sharing though =)
I have been into pyrotechnics around 11 years. I am trying to video behind the scene footage of how fireworks are done. I never realized how much I was into it until I started to document it all.
@lightfire33 depending on the caliber and the effect, I mean like a 4inch salute would do much more damage than a 3inch falling leaves shell or something. With falling leaves and that kind of stuff I would give it a 1 on the screwed scale. But with a 4inch salute I would give it a 11 on your scale. I have once seen a 6inch shell which flowerpotted, it was a miracle no one was hit by the stars, a van which was about 50 mtrs from that tube had a hole pierced in it.

We have also small shows and they are like this.The big show is sponsert by different sponsers because it's so big . It's once a year and its the biggest for the Benelux (Belgium, Netherland and Luxemburg).We shoot from three locations whit wireless firing systems like the explo .
This is my dreamjob, it's to bad that here in the Netherlands it's not possible to have a steady job in it because there wouldn't be a better job for me out there.
@displayfireworks1 10k for this show!?!?! That's more than the NYE shown in my home town is! It's electronicly fired, have quite a bit of cakes, and the biggest shell is 8". .I think it's 8".. 6 minute show. I have the show on my channel . That is a true example on how expensive fireworks is in Norway. 10$ for a simple 25 shot ged and green consumer cake.
Next time you meet these guys, tell them their finale needs a bit more work, to be honest it was pretty boring. But I guess those are the limitations when hand firing. Some fan racks would make the finale way more pretty, I can't stand the buildup of exploding shells in the same place when you've got the whole sky to work with, spread em out a bit :)
I didn't mean to sound so critical but I was missing a bit more variety in the finale, maybe some brocade shells or atleast some silver to colour changers, but I guess that's just my personal opinion as I like tailed stars and the pure colour ones just don't seem that impressive to me personally. Sorry if it came out like I was trying to bash these guys work :/
@displayfireworks1 For some reason I hate salutes. Don't know why, maybe just the fact that I don't like very loud noise? I mean I don't even like firecrackers - just prefer making 2" colour shells - lol. /:)
great documentary....you answered some questions that I always had.....awesome!!!

I like how they did their finale. Build low and work your way up in the sky.
Thanks for watching the videos. You guys enjoying them makes it worth the effort.
Nice show.Thanks for the vid's Dave.
Whe are doing a big fireworkshow in Belgium. On July the 11.
With 1100 saluts in the finale.

Oh yeah, other than that, a couple very good segments in there, good filming also :)
great footage! do you know how much his show ran for?

on a scale from 1-10 how screwed would those guys be if one of those shells didn't leave the tube ?
Titanium Salute. Just noise effect with small titanium cloud around it.
A pyro liks firing by hand but when you have a big show its not always possible.
Safety is also better whit a firing system.
Hey, When is the next event your going to be filming?
I really do not know the price buy my guess is it was less than 10k
is it not light one and then it will go all the way??
@displayfireworks1

Niice show!
hmm why dont they use firing systems?
why did u light them at may 25??? and not july 4
It adds time , extra labor and expense to a small low budget display.

@concordskijr
I don't understand... haha.
