"Best" is subjective . . . Former Torontonian chiming in. I was a Penrose loyalist until they closed; consistency in batter and fish didn't change in between my return visits to Toronto. My parents, both British, were immigrants to Canada in the 50's, they became Penrose regulars. Whenever I returned to visit my parents, I would always stop to treat my parents to a Penrose take-out lunch or fish dinner. I remember when i got my license at 16, access to a family vehicle was almost always granted after a Penrose "run". Penrose was a simple menu, and they did it well. Now i'm a Duckworth's loyalist. As a matter of clarity, the location on the Danforth, and for the same reason I was a Penrose customer. Not saying the Duckworth;s on Kingston Road is a bad choice, same family different branch, but the quality and taste of the fish between visits is noticeable. This place your reviewing is good, but its a big menu. Nothing they offer stands out. It was a quick convenient alternative to stop in when my own kids were in East York and Leaside for sports. No shortage of new options every year in a city like Toronto. . . A good review. Thank you.
In this video he talks about a place that offers among other things is your typical Fish n Chips, and they use HADDOCK,which I strongly disagree with because I worked at Irish restaurant in MANHATTAN, specifically in midtown Manhattan called THE OLD STAND,and Margo with Pat were the owners and she would order Scrod, which is baby Cod,best type of fish and use regular batter or beer batter with French fries, vegetables and tartar sauce and lemon and recently I asked my daughter about a Irish restaurant up the road called CONNELLYS, on Grand Avenue in Maspeth,QUEENS and I asked her how much for the fish n Chips and she said 23.00 dollars, and I said no, that's way to expensive as I know where to get Scrod, make my own French fries and fry it myself and probably spend about 8.00 for everything because I know what the prices are, but I will continue watching this video.
they are good, but not the best there closest competition closed a few years ago was way better. I heard one of the main cooks from Penrose opened up a shop on St Clair, I\'ve heard it's the best but haven't been there yet.

The best Fish’N Chips is HUTCHES on the beach in Hamilton ( they have a second location at the harbour front on Bay st. as well )
Rate it out of 10

Do they have Cocktail Sauce? I don’t like Tartar Sauce.
@@averydavis4050 yes they have everything in that realm
Looks delicious. Most white people like to eat their fires with vinegar. Me, I prefer gravy and ketchup. Man, I’m hungry now. Another great video!
haha maybe you'll have fish & chips soon
