Well I agree with all the lovely comments. You are a wonderful teacher & I am understanding this double crochet now. I’m 76 & have just started to crochet as I too are quite house bound with very bad Fibromyalgia & arthritis. My other half passed 13 years ago so I live alone now with my little Yorkie. A friend comes in to exercise her but she is my little shadow & loves to cuddle up. She snuggles into my back & shoulder but it doesn’t stop me crocheting or trying to.

I'm an "intermediate" crocheter, but I don't do it for a while and need a brush-up. This is perfect to get me back into crocheting with some tips I did not know before and will make my projects look better. She does a very nice job of explaining and showing exactly what to do. Watch this if you already know how to crochet, but are not an expert, and also watch if you are a beginner.

I love d/c, because it's so easy for my MS brain to remember and it's easier on my MS/arthritic hands. ;) I learned to crochet from my gramma, when I was about 13, but could not remember as an adult. So about 3 years ago, friends suggested I look up how to crochet videos here on TH-cam. I did, and have come a long way. Once I got the hang of it, I looked up videos on how to change colors and have done so in afghans and scarves. ;) I am so grateful for people like you who take the time to make videos like this! I won't drive anymore, (due to the MS and seizures, so I don't have a car), and my friends all work (of course) and many are busy with family, so I am home alone a lot. So crocheting has literally helped keep me from going bonkers! ;)

AmazedbyHisgrace1 Hi, I'm bedridden due to "Failed low back surgery syndrome", and am home all the time as well. Except for once every three months, when I have to "go" to hospital to have my morphine pump implant refilled. I feel very lonely too at times, and am also beginning to pick up crocheting again. Itt's hard for me as well, because it's so painfull after a while, because my arm muscles don't work properly anymore either (I have a neck implant as well). I would like to learn how to knit again (used to be able to, but that was when I was in my twenties), but am hesitant, because the knitting needles might not be as handy to work with in a bed as opposed to a crochet hook. I don't know if you will get this answer to your comment, but I hope you do, you are always welcome on my FB, just maybe, if you're interested that is, send me a PM first, so that I know who you are, since I don't know your username on FB. Hope to "hear" from you soon. Take care and God Bless !

Keeping you and Nadia Verbeeck in prayer for healing and relief from pain. I too learned crochet from my beloved granny! Her pieces were coveted by young and old alike. I too put down this lovely hobby for many years...with the wonderful news that I am a soon to be "glamma" myself I've turned to youtube for crochet refresher and find these videos amazing and very helpful! I wish you and Nadia Verbeeck great success with your crochet projects.

TobyMcfarland I’m still trying. This blanket is turning out ok. But when she says using thicker yarn makes the project fly by is kinda being positive. Lol. I’ve been working on my blanket and it’s been about three months now and I’m still on the same blanket. I must’ve made it way too big because so far I’ve used about 10 bundles of yarn and it’s maybe 1/3 of the way done. I just bought six more bundles of yarn, Michaels was having a nice sale. It looks nice but will be huge! Lol.
Maybe one bootie for when the baby is one age and another bootie for when the baby is older? 😂

I taught myself to crochet watching videos on YT. What helped me learn faster was doing a big project. I decided to make a maxi cardigan sweater and I noticed as I was almost finished with the back panel how well I was doing and how loose some rows were at the bottom 😅 so I unraveled the whole thing and started all over. Now it looks evenly nice and neat! Repetition was key for me.

My personal recommendation is NOT to put a single stitch after the chain. Singles are super limiting and mean for like beanies or anything that does not lay flat.

I am trying to get back into crocheting after 45 years. A couple of questions:
    1. How can I keep my initial chain stitch row from being too tight, thus, curving my Afghan?
    2. My triple chain at the end of each row seems to make too large of an opening. Is this correct?
I have done about 5 rows but I want to start over to see if I can improve these two areas. Before I search all the videos, can anyone respond?

it looks so easy. you go so fast. can you make an afghan in a night? an under-taking for sure for a beginner. I have done macrame and some knitting. quite comprehensive and the hardest part i think would be knowing what size(yarn weight) to use. Hoping if i start now. maybe by christmas a nice afghan to gift. Looks simple. just loop the yarn around the hook and pull through.. what can possible go wrong.

Great tutorial! I'm at the end of my afghan and I'm not sure how to finish my edge at the bottom to match the top. Can someone please help?

I know an easier one.... I am making a baby blanket where I just chained 61 and I double crocheted along the whole thing 40 times. P.s I used pipsqueak yarn that is at Walmart and it also works with buttercup. And yes I know I am not good at explaining things... I might make a video on it

I'm having a little trouble with the last stitch on each row. That one does not look the same as the rest of the stitches and is hard to get my hook into. What's wrong?

I have done a few small projects lately. I have made a Lap blanket over the summer. I am ready for a big project and want to make a large afgan. I have found the yarn i want to use just to get it purchased. I plan on working in one big blanket. I have read where someone would work in smaller sections and the sew the pieces together. Is that a preference on how a blanket is made or is their a time when that method would be better to use when making a blanket?

I'm new to knitting and crocheting...so when I watch these videos, I look up how many chain count - and for a blanket it is 146...is this how many I do for my starting
    chain count? is this correct

How many skains did it take you to make the blanket? I started with chain of 130. And I started out buying the same yarn you used I bought 4 to begin but can tell it's going to take alot of skains to finish. Was hoping to get a rough idea of how many it took you!

After the first stitched row, and after the triple stitch do you go through both pieces or yarn or only one. Like on the edge of the stitch there’s two loops, do I go through both? I can’t tell from the video....I’m kinda blind 😂

I'm a beginner and picking up hints here and there from various TH-cam videos. Your slipknot is the easiest to do! Thank you for explaining that. I did get lost watching your double crochet, though. I needed to back it up and watch a few times. Thank you, Kristi!

I don't like the holes at the end of each row, is there a way to do it so there is no hole? Can I crochet into the first stitch instead of the second from the hook?

I knit very well but i am woefully bad at crocheting . I think it might be a tension issue and I never know what to do when i get to the end of a row. My edges are crazy and i lose stitches. I guess I need to practice more.

I’m leaning how to crochet from videos on you tube. I enjoyed your blanket video, so my next item will be your blanket pattern. Not too sure how much yarn I’ll need ..... hoping to order the correct amount. Your ice is easy on my ears, the size for a CA King. This will help my dbl crochet! Thanks a bunch 😊
