    Al
The batterey in my 1999 Astrovan, discharged and six months later I put a new battery in! I turned the key on this previously well running machine and it started for 3 seconds and died! Over and over again and same result! I tried dozens of things after reading articles and there was no success.
Last evening I ran across your video and thought, "what the heck, try one more". I did what you suggest and that Astrovan came to life like the old days and is just purring! I cannot thank you enough!

It Worked, thanks so much. So basically its just resetting the Vats(vehicle anti theft system) which kills the injectors after start. Just wanted to point out, you should disconnect your negative terminal, as it is safer, if your wrench contacts any metal in the area it could lead to direct short with 800 amps, blow the battery up or blow holes in tubing or whatever.

This is my first comment about a youtube video, I've been struggling with my 98 C2500 Cheyenne and the passlock system I tried all kinds of bypass tricks and none worked and laughed when I watched your video. Then on late last sunday night just when i was about to order a complete new passlock , said what the heck give it a try. tap 3 times hooked it back up and the SOB started after 3 months of working on it and letting others try. Thank You friend, The Beast is back on the road!

glad to see this video, ive tried explaining the system to my son when he drives my 99 suburban but like most of the newer generation he knows more than i do. gm tells you if that little icon is on in the upper right corner then turn your key off for a second or two then to on and leave it in the on position until that light goes off, then its okay to start. i guess they get triggered some way at times. never saw this trick before but it makes sense to me. with this beast holding 44 gal of fuel and lots of miles the fuel pump won't always fire it up quickly, so i'm assuming when it dies or fails to start right away the anti theft is triggered.

IF the engine cranks, but only runs for a second:
Turn the key ON/OFF three times. (not run) Wait ten mins or so with the key ON, until the security light goes off. Now it will start. Te ECM just has to relearn the resistor value in the IGN wiring harness. It happens to my truck once a year.

I wish it was once a year for me. I put in a refurbished module in my 99 Tahoe, stopped doing it and then just started doing it again. Almost every day now, usually when I'm trying leave for work does it like doing it.

Mine won’t start at all, doesn’t turn over. Hear some noise from the starter I think when I turn the key over to start it and that’s it. Seems to be plenty of juice in the battery too? I had 2 positive cables that stumped me seeing that. I’m use to just 1 positive cables from battery to starter. Where this other positive cable go to? Goes across the radiator to drivers side and back towards the firewall under some fuse boxes I think? Haven’t found the other end of the cable yet? Considering replacing the cable thinking that might be the problem. Now that I heard your comment on this issue, think I may have to give that a try too!
Irritating part, is I have a Ford that lost all power inside the cab as I was driving the truck and now it won’t turn over like the battery dead. Accept battery fine.now I got 2 trucks down

I have to try this one... My 99 Suburban only cranks but won't start; basically died in the driveway because it was not used. I have change so many things: Cam and Crank sensors, fuel pump, fuel filter, injector spider, spark plugs and cables, relays, distributor cap, rotor... At first, i changed the crankshaft sensor and it started, until it came a point that the crankshaft sensor was not the issue. I guess it was never a problem due to the sensor and now that i know better, by checking spark and rpm gauge movement it was enough to discard that as a problem. I have been having everything: compression, spark, fuel pressure, and a charge battery and the clue still out there. And the other day, after started after I change the spider. My guess it started because there were lot of carburetor cleaner in the chamber when I cleaned the area while changing the spider. I will try this, what the heck.

I had the security light issue (and still do) but my main concern was just getting the car started and back to my house to work on it. I might try your method of tapping the terminal thrice later. HOWEVER-- after doing a couple of other experiments with you tube ideas on this process, I was in the process of loosening the battery terminal when the thought crossed my mind to make sure both terminals were tightened properly to begin with. So I tightened them both up and my truck fired up immediately. I have a 2004 Trail Blazer but to your credit-- this did inadvertently lead me to the cause of my starting problem it appears -- so thanks for that. I only share this information with others in case they have not tried making sure they had good tight battery terminal connections first to see if the vehicle will start up. LIke I said-- when time allows, I may try your terminal tapping method to see if that gets rid of the security warning light (mine does not flash). I have a feeling that the light started coming on as my terminal connection vibrated looser and looser. Then it failed and shut me down from starting.

Hope this works on my 97 GMC Sierra C 3500 pickup truck Dually.. if need be. I changed all my sensors and everything distributor computer.. ECM supplier said security light was burned out behind the dash maybe nobody seems to be sure. I sent to mechanic Burbank California after two weeks finally got to it and charge $1,200. I managed to drive it out of there he did not change the key as I suggested I had a new one in vehicle. I lost. And just bought another. This is automatic vehicle not manual shift.. key assembly has syndrome you know won't even go to auxiliary position anymore have to wiggle and pray to get ignition turned on and then into crank you know that little broken part inside.. Started sticking on crank I've had to quickly turn off to try again. I figured current switch is sure to fail completely... dealer doesn't look at these trucks anymore they have been discontinued. Only the same shop that sent me out with check engine light going on periodically will work on my truck. It did pass the smog check however with incredible numbers.. in Hollywood California. All mechanics steer away from this truck some say it's too heavy. They're all crazy Maybe. I wonder if check engine light may be associated with bad key cylinder it has been on for a while now it just turned off after I bought the new key set today I kind of wiggled and played with the old stiff assembly. Check engine light went out.
