On top of what I've written before, about ritual and yogic prana breathing, I'm thinking that this came from the Vedic soma (homa in Zoroastrianism). Indra drank large amounts of Soma before and while fighting the serpent demon Vritra. It is said to give immortality. The steps of the ritual and procedure of Soma are also connected to 'conquering territory' (like the kóyros we've mentioned before). In Rig Veda there's a chant - 'what can hostility do to us now, and what the malice of a mortal? You are elixir of life, achieve physical strength or light of god, achieve control over senses; In this situation, what can our enemy do to me?'. The Zoroastrians drank homa to grant speed and strength to warriors. Since the Vedic and Avestan periods the peoples have changed plants over time (I have many examples, if you're interested) so it's quite likely that so did the Norse.
Thank you! I think the greeks drank something similar too. Do they have any evidence/theories of what was in these drinks? We dont have too many native hallucinogenic plants in Scandinavia as they do further south. Henbane and also Mandrake and Deadly Nightshade have long been used so possible a combination of these.
@@norsemagicandbeliefs8134 In the Somayajna ritual today it is the somalatha plant that is used, and the Zoroastrians that are left use ephedra mixed with pomegranate twig (and used in the battle between order and chaos). Historically and trying to find the original identity of the soma plant they're mainly talking about 10 plants - in fact the fly agaric (rød fluesopp ;) is one of the most commonly mentioned. The others are: the already mentioned somalatha, the psilocybin mushroom Psilocybe cubensis, Ephedra, the perenn Peganum harmala, the Lotus flower Nelumbo nucifera, the fungus Claviceps purpurea, the sugarcane Saccharum Sara and cannabis. Haven't had time to figure out which of them grow in Europe. What we DO know - and here it gets very interesting is that the original proto-Indo European word for this drink is *medhu - 'methu' in Greek, ('mead' in English and 'mjöd' around here) and the Greeks had another word for wine, so it was NOT alcohol (in fact the Sanskrit/Hindi word to describe the characteristics of Soma drink is 'madhu', meaning sweet or honey). Odin actually steals 'the mead that's been mixed with blood and been fermented' and uses it to create peace between the Aesir and Vanir. The Celts had the 'Flaith' drink, meaning 'red ale'. In Homer we find several ritual drinks beside the 'methu', for example the Nekter drink (ambrosia meaning 'not dying' in Koinë Greek). I could go on and on, but as you know TH-cam comments aren't the right forum for this ;) One thing is for sure - the Indo European tradition is FULL of ritual drinks, made out of everything from alcohol to hallucinogen mushrooms and plants. It's part of our history and worldview and very important in my opinion.
There is a video in which the historian Michael Wood, I believe in his search for Alexander the Great, finds Soma, has it brewed and is high as a kite.
@@bjornekdahl721 Did you read 'The Immortality Key: The Secret History of the Religion with No Name' ? Seems like this kind of ritual existed for almost 2000 years old!
I think people often overlook what I believe was a main factor in berserk. Some people, like myself, have a rage constantly brewing within them. A deep anger that doesn’t even have a target (not exactly good for modern living, so I avoid others). Now, add on substances to that natural rage, and you get a berserker. Also: subbed. Just found your channel an hour ago and have begun the binge watching lol
Yeah I don't need fucking drugs to get pissed off to start shouting and go into battle mode once I am angry enough I what I call red out meaning I plan on destroying you and I won't feel bad not one bit being fully aware.
4:40 To have used hallucinogenic mushrooms, personally, it's the last thing I'd want to be on in a battle 😅 Just trying to coordinate looking what time it is on your cellphone takes 5 minutes. I'd get killed within 30 seconds of battle for sure. There's a reason you keep hearing "do them in a safe space" and they're a wonderful tool for spiritual exploration, even as an atheist (I was and still benefited from "ego death" back then), but it makes zero sense to me that someone would plan to use that for battle 🤷♂️
Amanita has a different effect to the psilocybin mushrooms, it is conceivable that some men would be capable of fighting under the influence of a macro dose of Amanita, especially if they were conditioned to it from their teenage years. They may have mixed in a stimulant herb also to counteract the dreamy\sedative effects.
Speaking from experience: the solanum family, henbane, mandrake, datura, brugmansia, etc, are STRONG deleriants. Insensitivity to pain, rage, anger, and frenzy are entirely in character. The crash afterwards is no joke either. See erowid for details; too much, and you are pushing up daisies.
@@bimbus_nimbus I've seen it, somebody who's taking it as part of a formula and who's been conditioned to it from a young age most likely wouldn't be as discombobulated as he was. The lady below is a good source on Amanita. th-cam.com/channels/VDN2oZZ3mgaIEVuEUm3YPw.html
On the same token old germanic battles weren't precision shooting and tactical brainy shit . It was crazy violence with axes and swords terribly painful deaths and fighting. Tripping can give insane energy and strength as well as block pain and cause a phycotic frenzy that would have been beneficial too that type of warfare
Everyone I have known that could go beserk was hyperinsulinemic and it has been written that beserkers did not drink ETOH or eat a lot of bread or other starchy carbs until they were about to go into battle. It has also been written that beserkers would collapse after battle and go into a deep sleep just like a hyperinsulinemic coming off a sugar high rage. Those with this condition produce too much insulin, which causes hypoglycemia unless they eat regularly, but eating too much non-complex carbs found in breads, sweets and ETOH cause the insulin to sky rocket, which in turn cause the adrenal glands to produce a cascade of adrenaline leading to beserker like behavior. Drugs are not needed. It has also been written that beserkers tended to come from the same families-genetically inherited just like hyperinsulinemia.
Interesting. There is a condition called hypoglycemic rage, when a diabetic really, really needs to get their blood sugar back up, and you don't want to be around him or her at that time. Hand over the candy, and back away, lol.
Seidr was thought to be "unmanly" simply because it is done out of sight - on the sly. Our ancestor's notion of manly honor was that one goes and meets the enemy in the field, no matter how unlikely one is to win the fight. The magic done by men was therefore accompanied by chanting things out loud, and making public demonstrations. Women, on the other hand, often needed to practice their magic when hidden from view. They had to be disguise their intentions, or do their magic out in forest, perhaps at night. The sagas do not speak well of people who use hidden magic in order to harm others. Think about the witch who harms Grettir, leading to his death. On the other hand, if the magic is used in a public way, it is not dishonorable. That is all that is being said about Odin using seidr. He learned how to do some things on the sly, and when he thought it was necessary, would take this path. It is the equivalent of setting an ambush for someone rather than kicking in their front door. When people say that Odin was doing something "unmanly" when he was using Seidr, they often let their imaginations run to all sorts of strange practices, but there are no actual tales in the lore that support Odin doing any of these things - he wasn't known for doing anything perverse, but he certainly was known for setting traps and using stealth. That is all that the lore is saying.
Aye, me maties! We must be thinking "outside the box" if we want to be VICTORIOUS in our battles! Just look at what my Ancestor Bran, the Irish king did! Then we see what my namesake St. Brendan did in his "crazy" methods of "DivinINg". He is the Patron Saint of the Seas. They even honor him with a statue in Sicily! I DARE anyone to drive a stick up the behind of an Italian or Sicilian mobster to win in a battle against THEM! Or my OTHER GREAT ANCESTOR OCTAVIAN'S behind, known as EMPEROR AUGUSTUS! In the ancient pictograph at 8:50, maybe we should look at that from another perspective, which would also tie in other ancient tales and societies. We know "giants" existed in the past. These stories are recorded in the Bible with David and Goliath's battle. Growing up, I read 'Gulliver's Travels'. All tribal societies have stories of giants. The Titans are famously known, as well. Perhaps those ones with "two anatomically correct MALE anatomies" are the giants of lore that had tails. OR, could it be that the warriors somehow trapped their prey, then drove a stick up its anus so it couldn't fight! Think it could effectively fight back?! Think they wouldn't want to immortalize THAT accomplishment with their "artwork" of the times?!

A old Dutch name for henbane is dolkruid that translates as dol=crazy/drunk/foolish/frenetic/furious/insane/intoxicated/mad/nuts/rabid(dictionary) kruid=herb.
A few years back a CHP officer in the town of Willow Creek stopped at a car wreck where the teenager got out high on mushrooms attacked the CHP officer with a machete. The police officer shot the teenager 11 times then the teenager cut off the fingers of the police officer with a machete the police officer had to get into his car and lock himself in. So yes one can definitely go berserker on mushrooms.
I recently had a psylocibin mushroom trip and they kicked in surprisingly fast. Within 10 to 15 minutes after ingestion, I felt a euphoric burst of energy coupled with uncontrolled laughter. My senses were more acute, fine tuned, and could comprehend things around me much faster all while maniacally laughing. Not to say this proves it was used for battle, but with the right person who understands the feelings and knows how to keep themselves centered during a trip, could prove a very useful boon in battle. if you do not eat much during a day they can kick in very fast. I had not eaten much, but was drinking beer as well, which might have also accelerated the onset of effects. Maybe light meals and alcohol consumption drastically decrease the time it takes to kick in. All of this is speculation, not science obviously, but I could see a culture who were around these things a lot more and had more time to explore these things to possibly use them in faster ways than we know of now. Thanks for reading if you did.
Sounds like henbane. Mushroom experience does not induce violence in my many personal experiences with several species. But do you think in their travels maybe stimulant herbs or ayahuasca types of herbs? Eating /drinking any belladonna (hen bane) instant diarrhea usually, vomit, definitely a hangover. Here in the sw USA datura is everywhere and yields crazy results. It could maybe be just mental like our marines. This has always fascinated me about oracles and berserker lore
Oh wow !! I'm an herbalist and growing spiritually ( I'm Cherokee, German, Scottish and descended from Scandinavian vikings!) I grew black henbane last year for the first time!!! They are so beautiful!!
We take it for granted that men of this era saw many battles and killed many men. But just taking a moment to ponder how psychologically as well as physically difficult that would have been, I can understand why they would have used substances. I am fully aware, knowing 1600 years of my genealogy, that I am only existing now, because these men fought, won, lived and had offspring under such circumstances is quite amazing really. And I'm talking about generation after generation of battle hardened warriors. It may have been a cultural norm, but it can't have been easy mentally, to the contrary. Loving your content btw, and I have to say you have very similar features to the line of Dukes of Normandy. I can see resemblance in your bone structure. Have you done your genealogy ?
Read a little of the handbane flower as a result of this video. It contains 2 hallucinogenic substances, atropine and scopolamine (yes the same as in "Devil's Trumpet") Tribes in Amazonas brews tea with them and have done it for millenia. Just like most natural hallucinogens, the molecules are very sensitive and can easily be dissolved by heat, giving you no effect whatsoever. So if you was to heat it up for smoking, very specific conditions is required with much temperature control and mixtures to contain what you want from it.
I'm not very religious but it's good to be informed. With a mixture of warring people in my DNA I've always wondered what was wrong with me.. 😂🤪 now I'm guessing too much of the good stuff
In my personal experience "magic mushrooms" or liberty caps as we call them in Britain can have berserker effect lending a sense of strength and bravery in difficult circumstances but leaving you a bit drained afterwards. Anamita (Fly Agaric) are actually somewhat nutritive and give a great sense of well being and physical strength. I have never tried Henbane but the Datura family (which I have tried) is said to give a similar effect. It is known that among the Mapuche warriors of Chile they used to use a kind of Datura and those able to master its use could jump extraordinary distances and perform great feats of strength and endurance. In the tales of the Mapuche they mention the ability to jump up into trees or more importantly over the fortress ramparts of the Spanish and being able to take on many Spanish troops at once such as in the case of the warriors Tucapel and Caupolican. The use of such plants as aids for warriors took a lot of training and spiritual discipline... It is not just a case of ingesting. Indeed it can be very dangerous to try such plants without expert guidance because if you overdose you can go mad or even die.
IDK about the "berserker" effect but i've definitely been in fist fights on different occasions on both psilocybin shrooms and weed. It's not all peace and love every time lol
@@RedWolfenstein For that reason I made it clear that it's not to be played with. I have only ever used it like twice and with guidance and that was many years ago.

I was always told in school that vikings used mushrooms to go "crazy" before a raid or battle... The thing is though, ive tried these mushrooms, at low medium and high doses and The effect is quite The opposite and The experience is extremly spiritual every single time.. and yout physical performance actually gets worse.
the Hallristingar carvings are from the bronze age, when the germanic tribes were already stablished in Scandinavia, the DNA analysis identified that the Scandinavian remains from that period were all from the I1 haplogroup, the same main haplogroup of the later periods up to the viking age
I am definitely not an expert on Norse practices but I have viewed the berserker as having both physical aspects and metaphysical aspects and a form of sympathetic magic to connect them. Initially, substances would be ingested to aid the process where the person would begin to imitate the physical aspect this is important to achieve a specific mindset which, with training and practice, would allow them to channel specific energies which enhance the person physically in specific ways. Again I am not the most familiar in Norse lore and could be wrong
What i believe; I don't know of any source saying that the berserkers used substance to get into the berserker rage. Yet we keep focusing on substance use trying to explain it. Is it not possible that it was done through breathing techniques? Or a type of meditation? I know from my own UPG experimentation that rage can be summoned within the self to an extensive amount. Think of it as summoning a raging bear spirit from within. When I was experimenting with this I almost lost control of my behavior for a moment so I had to stop it in order to not go to deep and hurt someone or myself. After this experience I felt a bit numb for about a day and a half. Must say though, after I released this energy from within, my mind was extremely peaceful for some time. EDIT: I did watch your other video and i know i sound like some wannabe new age berserker, but this was an intense religious experience for me. Don't judge until you experience is my advise.
I agree with this. I think there is a genetic disposition to this "ability". My lineage is German, Swedish and some Dutch, for as far back as it matters- a very few in my family tree(more recent, this knowledge is spoken family history) myself included, have to be very careful not to "lose it". I don't mean anger issues. There are lots of angry people in the world, and angry people feel strong and can be violent. No, this is something different. When I was a young teenager and obviously more hormonal, I "lost my cool" a couple times. Fortunately, it was at home on our family farm and the only "victims" were a 2x6 tongue and groove wall I put my foot through, a service door on the back shed I ripped off the hinges, that type of thing. As I got older, I grew into the 285lb man I am now and my parents(and my own self reflection) taught me it was a responsibility of mine to make sure I did not hurt anyone. I had an uncle like this, and (I am told) a great grandfather. And again, this isn't "I got mad" this was something else. I mean, I do get mad. I can get really mad, but I don't "lose it". Because I know it's there, so I make myself stop. The one time in my adult life I lost my cool during an argument was thankfully outside and I had enough wits yet to go lift the back of my buddies Plymouth off the ground. That was sufficient to release enough tension to come back to earth. I am a bit older now, and the older I get the easier it is to reconcile things that would have made me very angry some years back. In any case, I still can get to the edge occasionally, but it takes something extremely unethical or morally bankrupt behavior to generate that feeling. And you are correct, it starts somewhere deep in your guts. It's like it comes out of your lower rib cage and moves up to your shoulders, a tension of sorts, and eventually into your neck and arms/legs and if it gets into your head you lose it. Modern science would say adrenaline is part of it, but obviously there is more to it then just that or everyone would be like this. I am just thankful I have had the awareness not to strike out at a person over these many years, the awareness to stop it short beforehand when others were around. So yeah, I agree, I think substances are a part of many cultures but I think this mental state of rage was not brought on by smoking flowers, I think it was a physical property of the person.
@davenhla I definetly agree on the theory that it is more something along the lines of what both of you describe than just taking something and voila you go berserk. I have myself had similar experiences and I sometimes consciously enter a similar state to release tension, when it has built up to a point where it becomes unbearable. It has more to do with really mentally/emotionally going into what you are feeling until it envelops your entire being and takes you over. Rythmic music can also help enter that state. All that said, some psychedelic substances really intensify your emotions and if taken in a minor enough dosage as not to incapacitate you I think it could definetly help strengthen that state.
I was able to work myself into a frenzy, just by willing to do it. I just knew how to do it; I'm not sure how, but no drugs were involved. I reached a state of exaltation in which I was able to see my surroundings clearly with my eyes closed. I had a dream that night where a loud voice told me I was trespassing into dangerous territory--that I was on a power trip and needed to stop. I did. I am not allowed to do that kind of magic, and if I stray even slightly in that direction, really bad things happen. The last time I practiced what I considered innocent visualization magic, I almost ended up dead. If a power is allowed to me, it comes to me without any effort on my part.
@@davenhla Weird... This kind of describes something I have noticed in myself, as well. Which is why I hate getting into fights. Not because I might get my ass kicked or anything... But because I know it's there, like a breathing animal in the periphery, frothing at the mouth, dying to get out and if I even open that cage an inch, it's bursting out and destroying the person in front of me. I'm 6'3" and have filled out my wide shouldered frame nicely, if you can imagine what THAT may look like when it happens. It's been like that ever since I can remember. A couple times the surface was scratched when I was in high school and it led to some rather serious outcomes (Which could have been much worse if I didn't pull back when I did, which took a MASSIVE amount of energy and thought, to do so). So when someone is trying to fight me, I seriously have to keep my head about me and either talk my way out of it, or just kind of do defensive maneuvers to keep them away from me until they lose interest. I mean, who goes into a fight with the main intent of "How do I get out of this without really hurting this guy..."? Yet that's what I have to do, every time. Admittedly, it's not like fights happen a lot as an adult, but still. Like in the military, a lot of guys kind of wrestle or fight around and such to kill time while things are down. Yet it was always observed (And I caught shit for it) that I never tried to win. This is why. I just didn't know how to articulate it at the time... I mean, how do you sanely explain "Because otherwise I'd fucking kill him"?
I feel like this is more of a case of “deity possession” or “divine intoxication” rather than actual intoxication. Maybe they used substances to bring upon this deity possession which I wouldn’t doubt as we know this is how oracles worked in ancient times but this sounds just like the state the Maenads of Bacchus would be like.
Is it not considered they they were not on any kind of external narcotic? Considering they probably all had PTSD wired brains it would probably only take a couple of minutes to work themselves up into the "seeing red" fighting state where the front brain shuts down and the rear brain takes over. An addictive chemical response yes but from within.
I wonder if there is any correlation between Getafix (Get-a-Fix) name and the magic strength potions he brewed in Asterix and Obelix comic series. When the Gauls took it they went berserk! lol
You keep making references to the Oracle at Delphi using Henbane. Where did you get that from? From what I've read, the experts are all convinced it was some sort of gas or fumes that brought on her trances.
Most likely just a "weed legend" but i've heard that they would use tents with a rock pile built on top of a fire inside.. They would throw fresh hemp (lots of smoke i guess) on the pile and and get super high xD ... Maybe something like that with the hembane, just before battle? Kinda makes sense, but would probably have been recorded
Black henbane is illegal in California. Found out when I ordered the seeds. I dried out the plant and flowers and kept them. Not sure why. Lol. Need to do more research.
Ja godt poeng. Men bulmeurt ble ulovlig over hele nord europa.
My father's family was founded by a 10yo Swedish orphan slung on a boat to the New World 400 years ago. That's a small part of my heritage, but not as small as it might be. The men in that line averaged 42 yo at the birth of their children. I have gone berserk once. A jealous girl slapped my face without provocation. I came to with thre big guys struggling to hold me back. No one called the police or criticized me. I actually saw red. It only lasted a few minutes. However, I have been in other bad situations, and not done that. It seems to me thateven in that state of rage, there is some intelligence applied - will it serve any purpose to become violent, or not.

@@norsemagicandbeliefs8134 Not sure why that never occurred to me lol I definitely know better. Even been to the rock carvings near Alta Norway years ago.
I always perceived berserkers as warrior that could run amok, since being in that amok trance you do not even feel pain, can't really control yourself and afterwards you do not remember how and what exactly happened. If it was during the battle, body would surely got exhausted, if there was substance to even enhance this state, it would probably demolish ones body unntil proper regeneration... that said if someone put stick in my ass I would totally went berserk I think... LOL
I think its more likely gaining control over your fight response, most humans experience it when they get into fights, they just completely lose control, stop feeling pain and gain extreme strength that they wouldnt have normally as if a bear has posessed them until they come down and are full of lactic acid making them fucked for the rest of the day. I think berserkers could just exaggerate and control this natural response
also, what I'd like to know about Henbane, does it actually help with fighting? It sounds like it works like weed, which, like mushrooms, is a terrible idea to take if you're going to fight. (try it with bouldering or swimming or any solo sport, that's something else) But can henbane work like cocaine?
Not everyone is the same. While i agree specifically with weed it's obviously not a performance enhancer, some guys can use it to great effect. Like Nick Diaz being absolutely toasted before fighting GSP, the judges gave it to GSP but Nick fought like a damn savage as usual. I think Mike Tyson was pretty lit in his most recent fight as well.
I'm pretty sure berserker means champion or hero in the historic context, so in the modern sense of going berserk, what was the Norse word or saying for being drugged to ascendsence? Or would berserk be an interchangeable word? Am I just completely wrong?
I am no scholar on these Saga's but i do know from personal experience from years ago when i was an avid tripper that when i ingested Magic Shrooms [liberty caps] that the effects started within 10 minutes of drinking a brewed tea.
As I'm a prehistorical archaeologist with big professional and private interests in the European Late Iron Age / Early Middle Ages I have to make some corrections to that great video. The plant "henbane" (Hyoscyamus niger) is called in German "Bilsenkraut", not "Pilsenkraut". So it has nothing to do with "Pils" or "Pilsbeer".
I have a quest(ion) for you. Did the ancient germanic people have any form of party music - like upbeat, not that reimagined Wardruna stuff, even thoug it's beautifull. With Celtic music, that's not too hard to imagine but the ancient norse could not have been a constanst low hymn of male harmony or screaming ladies in a fjord, right? I mean, people got to relax as well, right?
We have no idea. Of course all of those songs are lost. We have poems preserved but of course nothing instrumental. But my guess is that music in viking times would not have been so different than old Scandinavian folk music.
Opium tea would cause sickness from withdrawal for days after I'm of Norse blood and made very hyperactive by opium as are many other kinds of people group's.
i think they hotboxed in a sweat lodge like native Americans did maybe they were made out of the skin of animals and that's why we don't any finds i heard they used saunas in Iceland maybe they did the same thing on the continent
No one in history ever went into battle with a stick jammed in their rear end. That would be an immediate death sentence, no matter how much hen-bane one ingested. There is no historical basis for that. The stick is just a seaxe knife. Our ancestors were famous for close quarters combat with these big knives. The person who made these runestones just wanted to show us that these warriors were carrying seaxes in addition to whatever weapon they carried in their hand. The seaxes are in sheaths, hung at their waists. The "front stick" probably is a phallus. The creator of this runestone is showing us which people are women and which are men, and telling us that the men are caught up in a battle frenzy that is similar to the experience of extreme lust.
Here is a video that shows the very capable Roland Warzecha getting kitted up with both a seaxe knife and a sword. Notice that the sword hilt will project forward of him, and therefore the sheath and blade of the sword would project out behind him. Also notice that the sheath for the seaxe is hanging sideways in front of him, but as he moves, can also project in front of him. Before leaping to a theory that these runestones represent something essentially unheard of and impractical, I would first explore the possibility that they are just awkward two-dimensional representations of actual viking/saxon gear. If you were well off enough to be carrying multiple expensive weapons of war, you would want to be represented as such - as opposed to the average migration era warrior who probably carried a spear and a multi-purpose knife. If you have an axe in your hand, plus a seaxe and sword at your waist, you probably have had some success in your endeavours. th-cam.com/video/ocDNfiIXmDQ/w-d-xo.html
I thought the same thing myself. Even though most of them are vertical and not quite how a sword hangs from the sheath. But the main problem is that these rock carvings are from the very early bronze age at the latest. Only weapons that they had then were spears, bows and axes. I am not aware of any archeological finds of any seaxes, swords, or even large daggers from that time period. I am probably not right with my theory either and realize that. But seaxes are even more unlikely as to what they are.
Does this have any mythological cognates in other european cultures in terms of warriors and battle? If not then id say its pretty likely they got it from the vanir or the farmer people.
2/3/4 hours?? No when taken shrooms in a tea it can kick in within 15 minutes, I ASSURE YOU OF THIS by 30 minutes your full on tripping so full on believe mushies to be a possible source. Not to mention when you take ridiculous amounts of shrooms (I'm talking 9/10 grams dried) you feel a furious demon like strength, and for up to 3 days after you may feel weak and have headaches, I've experienced this state 5 times on my 7+gram trips so in my opinion shrooms could have for sure been used
Lets be honest mushrooms make ya friendly not ready to fight. If you need a substance to bring you to fight, your not a warrior. To get to "breseark"is s mstter of seconds if you trained.
Psilocybin mushrooms are far more potent than Fly agaric & come on quicker & if properly directed & channelled in a ritual toward warrior shapeshifting could work. In personal experience in the past I have managed to enter a related state thru the ritual use of said items in which I did achieve a temporary state of greatly increased speed & unlimited energy..

Hmmmm. Looks like we have some research to do. And hopefully some ritual drink tasting one day!

4:40 To have used hallucinogenic mushrooms, personally, it's the last thing I'd want to be on in a battle 😅
Just trying to coordinate looking what time it is on your cellphone takes 5 minutes.
Good to speak to the gods before you go into battle.
Assuming the battle would be planned for the day after speaking to their God.

Henbane is the culprit. This was used in a salve, rubbed over the body and absorbed into the skin. Medieval werewolf trials mention the same ritual.
I shudder to think about what that poor yet beautiful axe has gone through.
There was something about berserkers biting the shield, could be some substances smudged on it too.
Other than the Isle of Lewis chess piece?
Interesting idea.... hadn't considered that one.
That is all that the lore is saying.
wise words
Nicely said.

A old Dutch name for henbane is dolkruid that translates as dol=crazy/drunk/foolish/frenetic/furious/insane/intoxicated/mad/nuts/rabid(dictionary) kruid=herb.
Oh grappig.. weer wat geleerd
Yes damn near 100% scandinavian. With a little bit of scottish actually. Interesting. Maybe some norman there too
Read a little of the handbane flower as a result of this video.
I know it can happen with strong emotions. As your ligaments and tendons stretch it causes immense pain which makes you feel stronger emotions

Your theories are so much fun.

Hi. Round about the 6:30 mark, you mentioned an online paper about the maiden mead horn ritual. Could you please share the link?
Haha, I was thinking that as well.
EDIT:
I did watch your other video and i know i sound like some wannabe new age berserker, but this was an intense religious experience for me.
@@davenhla
Weird...
Awesome video!

Like always with drugs it depends entirely on the dosage.

With Celtic music, that's not too hard to imagine but the ancient norse could not have been a constanst low hymn of male harmony or screaming ladies in a fjord, right? I mean, people got to relax as well, right?
We have no idea. Of course all of those songs are lost. We have poems preserved but of course nothing instrumental. But my guess is that music in viking times would not have been so different than old Scandinavian folk music.
Why do you discount mushrooms? In my experience they kick in after 15-30 minutes :)
Opium tea would cause sickness from withdrawal for days after I'm of Norse blood and made very hyperactive by opium as are many other kinds of people group's.
i think they hotboxed in a sweat lodge like native Americans
did maybe they were made out of the skin of animals and that's why we don't any finds i heard they used saunas in Iceland maybe they did the same thing on the continent
Perhaps they were, more or less, constantly loaded on mushrooms, etc., so it didnt take much time to rock...
i had shrooms kick in after 15-20 mins
They didn't take drugs. Genetic mutation allowed for a trance state of gangr.
Henbane in German is "Bilsenkraut"
There is a belief they traded in South America..Research Inca dogs and you will see that the Incas had dogs that were descended from Denmark.
Yes actually. My video on the "Koryos" talks about it
@@norsemagicandbeliefs8134 ah thanks, ill give it a look
Plants to enhance. Nothing else. The spiritually fit do not need what is to be perceived by modern men as psychedelics to achieve Light of Man.
Forgot snorting.

Are your products made in Russia, I thought I saw a russian flag in one video just wondering
This berserker myth is still going around?
There’s now been identified native psilocybin mushrooms in Northern Europe which takes just minutes to come on after ingestion.
I am not knocking ᛅᛘᛏ at all. I appreciate all the good work that he is doing, stirring the pot and engaging people. Our tradition, in its fullest sense, extends over many lands, and tens of thousands of years, so there is plenty of room for divergence and variation. There are some things that I have learned through decades of fatherhood, farming, fighting, and worship of the Aesir that I think I have a pretty good handle on, however. ᛅᛘᛏ is making great contributions, however, and I am sure that he is making progress on his own path. Keep up the good work.
