I did this recently for the first time, I will say it was the most beautiful and amazing thing I have ever felt. My spiritual being opened up to the earth. I've partaken in the old flyagaric..and it was a very murky dark experience..COMPLETLEY DIFFERENT to liberty caps.or indeed thia, Hawaiian or any other psilocybin mushrooms....it scared me in fact ....I wouldn't have trusted me around an axe in a bearskin in the melle of a battle .. splattered in gore ...must have been quite a contact high I think.....I didn't enjoy the experience at all . I think it could possibly be an unenjoyable trip. The brown acid of the fungal world...also liberty caps boiled in cider are expedentialy stronger in my experience than the same boiled in water. This probably translates to a flyagaric experience.the alcohol sure wrings every last molecule from the source material..top tip .
The invocation ceremony and animistic fervour whipped up in the preparation to battle..was probably as large a part of the beserkers power as the chemicals. ..Manifestation of invincibility is not to be taken lightly when assessing a beserkers power in battle and the immunity to pain and all round aura of invincibility....the viking equivalent of a mad war elephant.. light the toutchpaper and retreat to a safe distance ...🎉🎉🎉😂
@@chonqmonk for sure I know that . They are completely different from shrooms .I knew that .but didn't expect the result .didn't we njoy at all sadly .I overdosed I suspect
Berserker was an official position in which you were given a bear skin as a badge of office (Berserker = Bear Skin) and served as the kings personal champion and guard. You would fight duels for him or be sent as a "messenger" to any vassals that were misbehaving. It was a combination of actual warrior stuff and state craft. They were highly equipped and trained warriors that acted as the kings right hand, not naked drug fueled savages. Fantasy writing and tabletop games are where we got the brutal naked drug psycho picture of what a Berserker was.
@@MyPoetikWell surprise surprise, berserk, in English means going hog wild crazy. Wouldn't it be weird if that were somehow in some way related to the word berserker?!?!?! Whatta mind blower! Lol...
This is correct. See my longer reply on this video. But again, Henbane is a relaxant, and would not enhance a warrior capability in battle. Drug taking Berserkers is a proven myth.
One of my favorite book series is about berserkers and the author does not use the term "viking" and takes place in a small saxon town where some berserkers take the main character as a slave. Highly recommend The Sea of Trolls by Nancy Farmer!
This whole idea that Amanita Muscaria was used to induce the "Berserker Rage" was based upon speculation by a scholar who actually knew absolutely nothing about the the effects of Fly Agaric. This bit of speculation has been repeated so much that some (even scholars at times) have taken the speculation as fact. The actual effects of Amanita Muscaria are quite the opposite of those one would expect to be used to induce a battle trance, being very sedate & introspective rather than agitated & animated. Please stop promoting this old, unproven piece of speculation as fact.
Well there’s many people in the comments who beg to differ and have had experiences quite like the berserkers… I think the doc missed out that they probably mixed the drugs with other things they where drinking alcohol everyday so that and shrooms and probably other things and they thought that was some form of godly power they would rage
@jamesjohno1180 , how many people in the comments section were frothing at the mouth and biting at the edges of their shields in the same way that such fits were described in connection with the Berserkers? How many of the sources describing the Berserkers or the rage that they went into have you studied? How would people know that they were experiencing an identical mindset to those of ecstatic warriors over 800 years ago? Do you know of some ancient firsthand account of someone who experienced the Berserker rage which the rest of us are unaware of?
@@thehiddendoor6478If you ingest amanitas with alcohol, snort some meth and smoke a little PCP, plus mix one teaspoon of gunpowder with a cup of pulverized lemon and stick it up your butt, you will 100% go berserk, and able to talk expertly on this subject...
Amanita mascaria is lethal past a certain dose. In order to survive the experience you have to take a very spacific amount and its more or less a near death experiance. I could see other psychedelic mushrooms causing a sort of battle trance if taken at the right dose with a raiding party in conjunction from alchohol, but amanita mascaria is a poison mushroom.
The actors playing the Vikings @17:46 look as though they really enjoyed playing these parts. You can almost see how hard they are trying not to laugh.
I am Norwegian. I have studied Viking history. I use Amanita muscaria as part of my every day life. Here are my thoughts: This video is inaccurate and grossly simplified. I would not recommend to waste an hour of your life watching this. There is too many inaccuracies to mention, but here are some of them. 1 Black ops/Navy seals: Comparing Vikings to modern military is like comparing a Chihuahua to a wild animal. Their society was nothing like ours in modern time. 2 Magic mushroom: Amanita muscaria is not a magic mushroom in the sense that it works on the serotonin receptors like psilocybin. It is NOT a hallucinogen. The active ingredient is muscimol and ibotenic acid. Muscimol works GABA receptors, same as alcohol and does not alter perception. It does however affect the nervous system. The effects depends on preparation, dosage, genetics and culture. The idea of one Vikings urine can give several other Vikings on optimal effect is completely wrong. The Vikings are not stupid brutes and savages. They knew exactly what they were doing when it came to preparation and dosages. With the right preparation, most of the nerve toxin (ibotenic acid) is converted into muscimol. My personal experience with Amanita muscaria is hyper activity that lasts about an hour or more, followed by a super relaxed and euphoric state. It also has an amazing pain relief, way better than opioids. Volve, a female shaman, used psilocybin in dream interpretation and predictions, but that is a completely different ritual than the berserker ritual. 3 Berserker ritual: First you kill a wild animal you want to emulate, then your drink it’s blood with the Amanita muscaria and dress up in its fur. 4 Not accurate depiction of a berserker Viking. The berserker looked nothing like the footage. They had blonde or red hair and green or blue eyes. Other than the animal fur, they were often completely naked, soaked in animal blood, this was not just because of intimidation and animalistic urges, but also because of temperature and mobility. The ax and spear was the preferred weapon. They were not savage brutes, but specially chosen skilled warriors. 5 Valhall: Not every warrior that dies in battle comes to Valhalla. It is not “the ultimate honor” as the narrator claims. It depends on what kind of Viking you are. It is just the ranks of Odin. Half of the Warriors gets specially chosen by Frøya to come to Folkvang, Frøyas own paradise, and warrior ranks. Where the most intelligent, articulate, and strategic warrior is preferred.
i trained martial arts for almost 30 years...i decided one day to see if i could still do my forms practice while tripping off a substantial dose of mushrooms...not only was i able to do it, i was executing techniques with a speed, intensity, and ferocity that was unlike anything i'd ever done before, to the point if i ever for some strange reason knew i was going to have to fight off like 10 armed assailants at once i'd 1,000% take some mushrooms beforehand lol...i can only imagine how insane an entire batalion of mushroom tripping vikings would be...
Psychedelics can definitely increase energy, stamina, alertness, coordination, euphoria, etc. It depends on your level of fitness beforehand, how used to the drug you are, your intention, etc. There are plenty of ways to prepare mushrooms to minimize or eliminate the side effects.

Well they were portable enough to navigate far into the river network for fast sure access to inland targets.. Conversely they were the same ships that discovered North America..ie Newfound land....so it's a bit of a paradox really....They were amazingly versatile craft. Light enough to carry and run with but durable enough to navigate the high seas. The vikings were incredibly good navigators. @@lindahouston5635 well that may well be but terrorism is a more modern word, as such has modern baggage, maybe Barbaric, Brutal or Savage would be better descriptors.
"Terrorism" is actually not a modern word, though it did take on certain modern connotations in the last 50 years or so. Politics was not always intertwined in the definition, sheer emotion (i.e. terror) was.
Yeah in a sense you’re right but I think it’s the closest equivalent to match to today for people to understand that they wanted to bring terror and use that to their advantage slaughtering etc so in a sense it was a form of terrorising? Maybe not the modern terrorism

Yeah, I don't allow myself to do hallucinogens around people. Had a couple of close calls before I realized "it's dangerous for me to trip around humans". Luckily I had a friend or two around who kinda understood me.
I don’t take hallucinogens anymore just bc I’ve done enough of those in my life and im over it lol but one rule I did learn in my years of fun is this: when taking mushrooms NEVER take them with anyone who’s NOT also on mushrooms. They will immediately annoy you lol

When I was a small child, they used to show live action documentaries from PNG complete with live battles, killing, war dances etc(which is illegal to show now). You don't need drugs to "get into the zone" at all. You just work yourself into a rage until you're ready to "perform". The British had a discussion with one of their chiefs called Wampwan about possible independence for PNG. He said, How are you going to give me independence when I killed more people than you can fit into this(conference)room? On the other hand, the Zulus say that their troops were high(on potions made by their medicine men)when they annihilated Lord Chelmsford's army at Isandhlwana.
One of t things that made t vikings longships so fast was that clinker-built hulls have a unique characteristic of chanelling air underneath the hull. You can see this by looking astern of such hulls while underway, there is a wake of froth left behind. So they are effectively cruising on air as much as water. And that makes a planing hull fast, very fast.
The cool thing is that some of their boat building methods are still used today. The technology was and is still very relevant. Pretty cool that it has persisted from then until now, when we have computers in our hands.
Fly Agaric does not produce psilocybin, and is more of a deliriant (ie you go mad) rather than a psychedelic (you have a nice groovy trip). Having said that, I'm not aware of any contemporary sources that suggest Vikings ever took mushrooms. Good video though, thanks.
Who is this narrator? Love his voice. This sounds like the guy who narrates ‘The Final 24’ which I ABSOLUTELY love. Would watch more with this or these narrators if they are not the same guy…
LOL, last time I used mushrooms (80's), I ran 6 miles in my bare feet on a gravel road. My heart wanted to come out of my chest...Different mushrooms, different trips. Amanita (Death cap), can and have killed people, I have never heard of anyone dying from the more common magic mushrooms that people ingest today (Cuban blue, etc.). There are other common mushrooms here in the northern hemisphere that are both poisonous and halogenic. Wild.
Amanita Muscaria, Fly Agaric - the red and white one, doesn't "kill". I don't think there's a single case recorded, of anyone dying from the actual mushroom itself. The WHITE one though, that's usually called "Death Cap" or "Angel of Death" etc. is on the contrary very deadly, and have no psychoactive effects. Once you start to feel something isn't right, it's also too late to save you.
Youre so wrong here man... please read up on the topic before you spew out completely false information. I was taught this also from young age to be terrified off these red amaninta. But with some research it shows this has been something shamans from the north been using for forever and benzidiazepenes are made from amanita. With a lower dose you can replace these with sleeping pills/alcohol/benzo and with higher dose you start to get a more trippy feeling. But yes, you need to prepare them right otherwise yes, they are kinda poison.
A lot more to the Norsemen than raiding and fighting .an amazing group of people , highly skilled in so many things , hundreds of years ahead of others .
Lindisfarne in 793 marks the beginning of the Viking Age, with Vikings targeting military strongholds, wealthy targets like oppressive monasteries and liberating occupied villages...
Ironically the monesteries like Lindisfarne and Jarrow were built on islands off the coast because when converting the pagan Anglo-Saxons in the 7th century that was the safest place to be, but in the Viking Age it was the most exposed.

As someone who has extensive experience with "magic mushrooms" these bad side effects were more than likely from mistaking poison mushrooms for the good ones. When harvesting one must be very careful not to harvest a "red devil". Psylisybin ( I may have spelled that wrong) mushrooms have a slight purple or violet color on the bottom. The poison ones or, red devils have a reddish bottom and look very similar. They can make you feel sooooo sick. I tend to think that this was what gave them the worst side effects.
For someone portraying a higher level of knowledge about mushrooms... And yet you've got it all wrong. They didn't use psilocybe for these effects at all, they used an entirely different group of psychoactive mushroom, and not by mistake either.
There is a slight inaccuracy in this documentary. The heads on long boats were always Ormurinn Langi or Miðgarðormur (the long worm, one of Loki's children) and that was never shaped like a bird.
Although I could never claim to be an expert on ancient Nordic traditions, I have experienced an epic melee fuelled by fly agaric mushrooms and scrumpy. The word "Berserk" was definitely on everyone's lips the next day.
Scrumpy is locally produced apple cider, usually from small farms in the south of England. Some are less devastating than others, but Kenny Kramps nr Ashford was the one responsible for our combined psychedelic melee on this occasion. Hugely enjoyable but I ached from head to toe at work the next day. Luckily apple picking isn't too psychologically demanding, so we all muddled through with pagan cheer.
Also unlike the UK liberty caps, fly agaric needs preparation before using. The effects are quite different as a tripping experience, so a 'heads up' there folks!
In Swedish it is "Bärsärk", that simply means wearing a bear skin as clothing. "Bär" means bear and "Särk" is nowadays clothes you have on when you sleep (kind of a long open dress, simply said). Everything else they supposedly did, I am not sure about. Of course Bärsärk also translates to a person extremely filled with rage. As I understand it, this state can not go on for very long, the adrenaline and much else will soon be gone. But it is a force to be reckoned with. Even a ten year old filled with true rage needs four grown up persons to restrict the person. Imagine a fully grown, big man with an axe... you have "A Problem".
Amanita Muscaria is toxic as hell. Bad shit. But the general consensus is that it was ergot of rye..which is also really bad shit. And with both of those it is impossible to regulate your dosage. Not at all like pleasant little Psylocibe Cubensis...

this is a fascinating tale. as i had pondered weather or not the vikings were actually true warriors or merely raider rabble. sense they always attacked EZ targets. anyone with drugs determination and murderous intent can slaughter helpless peasants. but the last stand on that bridge finaly proved that they were infact capable of tactical analysis and as much skilled as they were ferocious. choosing a choke point and out fighting 40+ trained soldiers is a remarkable feat. certainly more than simple criminals. and it begs a question. what might a modern day berzerker look like? what if they hadnt been banned? i picture a man buff as a body builder, in tactical gear, but with bear-skin adornments like a cape with a hood made of a bear. and weilding a belt fed MG with grenades and an axe as a back up weapon. taking clinically perfected drugs pre packaged with a precise dosage before engaging the enemy. a raging soldier who can only be stopped via a bullet to the brain as any other injury would go unnoticed untill the battle was over. and with that, Swedish marines just became terrifying
i used to train mma on mushrooms and I can say that they definitely made me think faster. my body became more flexible and agile. i saw many colors when i was doing this but i did not feel impaired in fighting ability at all.
you lack understanding. The whole point is when a person lives and identifies with their passions they are no different than animals, which do the same. What makes a human, human is the fact he is made in the image of the Logos, which is reason, which is Jesus Christ, manifested into human flesh. Thats why Christians saw pagans as savages, because they did not did not lead their own life, their passions did, they are driven by the lower passions.... so who is in control? you or your desires? 'Control your passions or your passion will control you' example is a alcoholic. he is under the pattern of desire and cannot function without it. he is 'possessed' i will add todays times is worse than before, majority people at least in the west live by their desires and not by the Logos.
This is your point of view, this is not the truth, Where is the logos in the witches hammer? Where was the logic in burning “witches”? Christianity with the crucified homo sapiens as the main logo, which reminds everyone everywhere and always where their slave place is in the world.

If they attacked a gathering, there was an increased chance of capturing jewekry and slaves. Attacking a larger group, however, meant that there were more potential defenders, Did the British ever engage in naval battles with the Vikings or did fighting the Vikings involve defeating them on the ground? Life is pretty exciting and vibrant today brother (at least where I live). I wasn't there but I think life was pretty grim back then for most people; a life of servitude and poor health culminating in an agonising death from an infection that would be easily treatable today. Few people would be capable of fighting on a trip. Or stupid enough to try it. Soldiers were tested with LSD as an incapacitant. The squaddies ended up laughing, climbing trees, and babbling. (ps- I have witnessed LSD etc bringing on terrible mental illness in people. It should never be recommended as recreational drug)
FYI You're thinking of psychedelics, Amanita Muscaria is a deliriant. This means that a "bad" trip is much more akin to a psychotic episode. In higher doses the relaxing effect is more like a general numbness that reduces pain and you actually feel stronger and more energized.
LSD it totally different, and similar to erogot fungus of barley corn. Fly Agaric isn't this or that, it's what you make of it. I have been partying hard and fighting on it (it doesn't give any superhuman powers, but helps the same way amphetamine does) when I was younger; and I have spent a Yule evening using it - sitting alone in my living room in the darkness and silence, watching the snow fall outside, and having a profound blissful experience.
Another legend. Ever seen Spartacus(2010)? When Gannicus leaves his shield & armour and fights bare with one sword in each hand? Only the most skilled warriours can do this. This is the original meaning of "going berserk". Englishmen has never understood this and made up their own myths like here.

Mostly, yes. Evolving slowly from the violence of the Dark ages, peasant families just wished to produce enough crops or livestock to feed themselves and pay their tolls, tributes and taxes to their landowner. Of course they were peace loving. The torture chambers and prisons of the church or political conflicts and wars of the aristocracy had nothing to do with peace or Christianity. So basically.... not much has changed. 😂

Well there’s many people in the comments who beg to differ and have had experiences quite like the berserkers…

Amanita mascaria is lethal past a certain dose. In order to survive the experience you have to take a very spacific amount and its more or less a near death experiance. Ancient black ops was such a good show. So many great episodes
The actors playing the Vikings @17:46 look as though they really enjoyed playing these parts. You can almost see how hard they are trying not to laugh.
I am Norwegian. I have studied Viking history. I use Amanita muscaria as part of my every day life. Here are my thoughts:
This video is inaccurate and grossly simplified. I would not recommend to waste an hour of your life watching this. There is too many inaccuracies to mention, but here are some of them.
1 Black ops/Navy seals:
Comparing Vikings to modern military is like comparing a Chihuahua to a wild animal. Their society was nothing like ours in modern time.
2 Magic mushroom:
Amanita muscaria is not a magic mushroom in the sense that it works on the serotonin receptors like psilocybin.
3 Berserker ritual:
First you kill a wild animal you want to emulate, then your drink it’s blood with the Amanita muscaria and dress up in its fur.
5 Valhall:
Not every warrior that dies in battle comes to Valhalla.

For example they are known to have navigated by the sun in complete cloud cover in a storm by using the lodestone as a visual tool to find the position of the sun in every condition...
Thanks for all the babble. I sincerely hope it is the result of you being on mushrooms.

Working on a painting right now of Berserker and wulfhadan. Gotta get the energy!

It's amazing that christrian, narrative portrays anyone different as savages.
you lack understanding. 'Control your passions or your passion will control you' example is a alcoholic. he is under the pattern of desire and cannot function without it. he is 'possessed'
i will add todays times is worse than before, majority people at least in the west live by their desires and not by the Logos.

@@peterlandbo2726truth hurts eh? This’ll hurt too. European countries sX crimes (particularly against female minors 10-13) have increased 4 fold on average. And it all started when they let them flood in. It ain’t a coincidence buddy. Look at their homeland (the one they had to flee because people of the same ideology/race/religion were slaughtering them) and try to say they’re law abiding material. You can’t. I know you want a pat on the back and a little medal to commend your wokeness but you gotta grow up some day. You gotta acknowledge the facts. Sadly you don’t seem like someone who’d do that.

I found it, absolutely mesmerizing!
I don't think those vikings were taking what people know as magic mushrooms, they were most likely taking Amanita Muscaria mushrooms.
I have tried Amanita Muscaria about 10 years ago, I just remember having unreal stamina, and when I drank water my stomach felt like a black hole.
I remember sprinting down the street as fast as I could and I could not feel my legs or lungs burn.
I’d like this a lot more if 90% of the dramatization was left out
Very little actual evidence presented here. A lot of "we think", "it must've been". Mainstreaming legends
It’s a TH-cam video.. not a research paper. I’m sure you can find more factual information somewhere else lol
Did Vikings prefer attacking a town where many people were gathered, for example, on a Sunday or did want to hit places like thinly populated settlements? If they attacked a gathering, there was an increased chance of capturing jewekry and slaves. Attacking a larger group, however, meant that there were more potential defenders, Did the British ever engage in naval battles with the Vikings or did fighting the Vikings involve defeating them on the ground? The Vikings seemed to know where every valuable site, Did they, however, ever overlook a rich inland site simply because the simply did not know of its existence or location in the early Viking days?
What a trip this Video is
Why because it didn’t condemn Christ 🙄. Like whatever you are is better. Please champ…
Shrooming alone is intense I couldn’t imagine chopping someone up with a axe while you’re tripping.
Keele Uni cricket pitch was always covered with them ... till too many folks heard about it
Those were the days that made life exciting and vibrant, it would be amazing to go back in time to experience it for real.
Life is pretty exciting and vibrant today brother (at least where I live). I wasn't there but I think life was pretty grim back then for most people; a life of servitude and poor health culminating in an agonising death from an infection that would be easily treatable today.
It's easy to romanticise the past, but it was all mostly mud and blood I think. You're better off in 2024 than you would have been in 824.
Well said @TeacherTom1
Tell me you want to go on a drug-fueled killing rampage without telling me you want to go on a drug-fueled killing rampage...
That is a very odd take. You'd be dead very quickly for a multitude of reasons but ok buddy.
All I did was laugh and get stuck in my driver seat for 11 hours then moved to the passenger seat for another 2 hours 😂😅🤣😂🤣😂
Why you driving on shrooms?
Psychopaths were useful in the tribal days...
It is deffinately possible. Maybe probable if the item were found on genuine archeological dig sights. but I am skeptical as I know some times items found places where they don't belong were simply obtained by somone from somewhere they weren't spose to take them from so they lie as to where they found said items. Really who knows I kinda bought into the bit that the Egyptians had trade with South America but also believe this may have occurred befor the land masses split apart as I think that happened well after humans were on earth
Some teen did a lot of mushrooms and murdered his whole family. He claims he doesn’t remember doing it. It’s a weird case for sure.
When you get really high your attention span seriously shortens. Like 7-5 seconds short. That’s actually what a bad trip is- you get caught in a loop constantly repeating whatever you were trying to do. I had a friend who dropped and picked up his phone in a parking lot for almost 2 hours straight. Completely destroyed his phone. I got stuck washing my hair for two hours. It’s not fun.
This is the most gangsta and the most metal thing ever! 🤘🔥🤘
The Native Americans...took a cacti, called "peyote". Have heard stories of their viciousness as well. Wonder who would have won that battle...Vikings on mushrooms, or Native Americans on peyote?
Hmmm. It is funny they both wore pelts.. The Natives had rifles at some point though and rode horses. Hand to hand I would pick the Berserker.
OH ALL RIGHT!
I'll sub already.
Would it be possible to have ancestors who were berserkers?
it is not possible as the berserkers were all homosexual and never had children.

I cant say on here how to properly prepare them, but it actually involves removing the white & cooking. Thats all ima say.
In the past, I took about 15 Flys in 1 does to see the effect, as i had taken them over the years with other magic fungi & honestly, the flys don't really do anything 😂 a little perception alteration, things seem a little animated perhaps, sedative effect & the feeling of being underwater, or having a runny nose 😂
But they work amazing mixed with Pantheras, Lib Caps & most things with psylocin etc :p
Your selling hypothetical for actual. While we have some writing and some archeology, there is nothing solid to connect mushrooms with fierce fighting.
There was found cannabis seeds in one of the Norwegian Viking ships..
Thank you. They have NO IDEA. They're trying to rewrite history. This channel has lost credibility. ANY kind of credibility. Probably just reached out to some stoner.

The Vikings had no access to lsd.
Englishmen has never understood this and made up their own myths like here.
did you really suggest Christians, at that time ,were "peace loving"? lol
like third line in the show and i got the ick. peaceloving lol
They protected their lands and went and stopped the spread of heathens that where always wanting to attack the Christian’s and take their land, the priests where peaceful they didn’t fight but the people did because they wanted to stop the evil and protect their faith, the people didn’t know no better that’s what life was to them and for everyone on the face of the earth you had to do this or you’d be rolled over
So maybe not peaceful but the end goal was peace and to bring peace and to stop the invaders and stop their heathen way of life, because they where kinda killing each and everyone
Shows how deep rooted the victim role is within these people...
Yep.. at the words of “ peace loving Christian’s “ I said out loud “oh f*%k off “
Mostly, yes. 😂
Right. Shrooms just made me hear different languages and be really quite calm. I never felt the urge to kill anyone 😳
And? They dont effect everyone the same.
complete bull$hit. This has long be debunked. Stick to facts instead of trying to get clicks from stoners.
That's what I think they are doing. This channel was half way good but now has lost ANY kind of credibility. Probably just reached out to stoners.
how u know ? 😂😂
The last time I did shrooms I almost died… laughing 😂
I used to do a lot of LSD when I was younger, I'm 65 now and I tried shrooms and guess what? I used to box and they made me want to fight. So speak for yourself, we are all different and react differently.
If we all ate mushrooms, we wouldn't have wars anymore.
We’d have even more because everyone would think they’re enlightened and know the “right way” to do things. They’d go to war to enforce their ways.
As someone who has taken quite a few trips....mushrooms is not something you take for battle😂
