Lance Stroll demolished the competition in F3 Euro back in 2016. He won almost half the races and scored almost twice the points of the guy who placed 2nd, and there were plenty of very good drivers in that field.
I think 2 months was a bit ambitious, however I think the main issue is the lack of testing also. I would love to see unlimited testing provided to the teams before the next event, rather than learning on race weekends. I would try to open it up and try to give the teams at least 100 hours of available time for testing before their next official outing, that should give enough data and time to sort out most of the issues.
I mean apart from the cost that unlimited testing is ultimately bringing (and what do you think how much money a univerity team will get to spend here for example), it isn't a stupid idea to have a limit here. The TUM approach of simulation is probably the way to go here, as it is not feasable to give them too much actual track running. But yeah, some more testing would have been helpful for them for sure 😅
@@TheTobeyGaming Giving them at least 100 hours testing isn't that much if spread across a few months, you don't run the car for the entire 100 hours. Usually a full days testing is about 8 hours, you might run the car for between 2 and 4 hours in that time. If the car's aren't permanently based in Abu Dhabi it would also make sense to allow testing at other circuits. I'm sure they can find sponsors and circuits willing to help.
@@VirtualR yeah but that really depends i think. If they plan to only stay at Abu Dhabi, sure maybe they can make it work. But if they plan to go racing on other tracks as well it will be hard to get so much testing on each of them 😅 And spreading it over a few months is hard, as they only had like 2 i think? So will be interesting what they can achieve until next year 👀

The difficulty here is that F1 cars are much more complicated than their counterparts on public roads. What the anti-ackerman is worth, the uneven airflow behind the opponent and much more. The disadvantage is that the new algorithms will exhaust themselves very quickly (Micromouse) and we will get a perfectly cornering train of cars, but like the idea that since there are no pilots, then you can remove all the restrictions that were supposed to save their lives: controlled suspension, controlled anti-wing, etc. and once they will be different the characteristics of the machines, then the results will not be so clear.)
I think one or more teams can start edging out their competitors with wider margins in track limits, allowing more slip and generally raising thresholds in the algorithm. That said the eventual "perfectly matching perfect laps" could happen quite soon.
For those idiots who do not stop criticizing this, you must understand that this is ONLY FIRST TEST of what could be a new era in motorsports, it is logical that they are not going to achieve anything the first day, probably in 20 years this will dethrone the entire reputation of formula 1. It looked as though the cars also had issues when entering the pit lane, presumably detecting that they were off the racetrack and therefore they were stopping for safety reasons. As for the cold tyres and braking problem, it could be solved by programming less aggressive braking zones for the first couple of faster laps, and then progressively increasing the braking forces as the tyres come up to temperature. Why not also try a standing start with no safety car or full course yellow restrictions? And finally, this format would be ideal for fully EV racing.
