    When open your site, I was crying 😢 because you are absolutely right, we all should know the Basics on CPR, cardiac arrest.
    My kid's father a young men , was working on the construction company, on Oklahoma city, it was a hot day April 2020, his co-workers found him on the floor, not move or respond, no one knows CPR, so when the ambulance arrives. He was basically olmost dead from a massive heart attack.
    Make me furious, how irresponsable the owner of the construction company, not have any CPR for protected his worker's.
    And after that terrible experience happened in my life loss a love one for not providing immense CPR care.
    I take my CPR every two years and be ready for any situation.
    Thanks for a wonderful video.
    Best wishes from Guatemala and Texas my two temporary home's. 🙏

    When checking for breathing you should get your ear and cheek down close to the patient’s nose and mouth. What you are doing is feeling for normal breathing against your cheek and looking down the chest to see if it rises. If it’s a noisy and windy environment you might not hear or feel the breath, but you should see the chest rise and fall if they are breathing normally. If you user agonal breathing it means this person is in cardiac arrest and begin chest compressions. Check Breathing for a full 10 seconds to make sure.

    I still remember the steps Lieutenant. Mitch Buchanon taught me as a kid. Watched a few CPR videos on youtube to see if there's anything else I could pick up. Never knew that the step where you check to see if anything is obscuring the throat and having to form a tight seal around the mouth to breathe is no longer necessary but the chest compression is.

    I was a lifeguard in high school. I remember being trained to do 30 chest compressions followed by two "breaths of life". Is this generally no longer suggested when the patient is not breathing/heart not pumping? You're better off just focusing on the chest compressions followed by AED? Thanks. I just want to refresh my memory since it's been ages since I was a lifeguard.

    • @duckster_playz531

      it depends on the situation, the two breaths is not necessary for CPR and could make things worse, but if the person is an infant/child or they are having an asthma attack, drowning, etc. you should do it, probably why the title says hands-only CPR

    You don't clarify what to do if the person is breathing. If the person is breathing do you give cpr? What about if the person is gasping? Do you need to check pulse? If so does pulse or no pulse make a difference on whether or not to administer cpr?

    • @vanessalara4987
      @vanessalara4987 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a BLS manual, and it states that if a person is gasping it’s not a normal sign of breathing it’s a sign of cardiac arrest which you should start high quality CPR. I am not certified In CPR or know everything about it but that’s what it says on my book. I can only answer your second question. Hope this helps :)

    • @theresecollins1794
      @theresecollins1794 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      If the person is breathing (not just gasping), they will have a pulse, so then you would NOT want to perform CPR. If they are just gasping (known as agonal breathing), it is unlikely they have a pulse you can feel, so it would be appropriate to perform hands-only CPR.

      Usually you perform CPR for at least 15 minutes while waiting for EMS to arrive .
      I have never seen any victim regain consciousness since they required advance life support and drugs . For those who had choked you will see a change in color, limb movement , possibly a cry and visibly see the chest rise .
      Having done this you tend to continue compressions until help arrives
      Your question was valid .
      Most folks freeze the first time they see a victim .
      CPR is drilled into your head before you are certified so trust your recall .
      You will be able to perform it

    Video is called hands-only CPR.... girl shows up she's got this fancy machine like I'm going to have that thing in my glove box or something... I roughly counted 100 chest pumps before she gave a breath of whatever... I don't do CPR like this I do it differently .. old school CPR...

      @chrismas the rules for cpr changed in 2008, not because of COVID…
      People are a lot more confident giving cpr when they aren’t worried about having to put their mouths on someone else’s. There have been studies proving that it is more effective to do just hands on cpr compressions. Nothing to do with COVID.
