Manipur News: Shutdown, Protests In Hill Areas As Kuki-Zo Groups Press For Separate Union Territory

- Coinciding with the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha on Monday, several protests are being staged in Manipur, demanding to resolve the ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur that started on May 3.
In Imphal Valley, civil society groups are demanding the central government to resolve the conflict and restore normalcy. Protesters, mostly women, are demanding the removal of central forces who they alleged are partial in their action, favoring the Kuki Chin Zo and targeting the village guards.
Meanwhile, a shutdown has been called in the Kuki-Zo-dominated areas and protest rallies planned to once again press upon their demand for a separate administration

The only reason why the hills were merged with the valley to form a state was due to the British, the Meitei's were never in control of the hills, they do not reside there they couldn't claim that it's their land if you're going to talk about history.
Before the British era it was completely divided, then the British took over and and merged both the valley and the hills under one state. This made an illusion to the Meitei's that the whole state belongs to them

From King Meidingu Pamheiba (1720-1751) to King Meidingu Bodhchandra (1862-1891), including King Meidingu Chingthangkhomba (1764-1798), King Meidingu Rajarshi Bhagyachandra (1759-1762, 1764-1798), King Meidingu Gambhir Singh (1825-1834), and King Meidingu Chandrakirti Singh (1850-1886), the Manipur Kingdom's administrative records, archaeological evidence, and cultural traditions all confirm the integral connection between the hills and valleys. These kings expanded, consolidated, and developed the kingdom, leaving a legacy of unity and cultural heritage that cannot be denied. The very existence of Manipur's ancient cities, such as Kangla, further solidify this historical unity. Any attempt to separate the hills from the valleys is a blatant disregard for the region's historical and cultural fabric, and a denial of the very foundations of Manipur's identity. If they wish to live in harmony with the native population, they are welcome to do so in peace, but if they attempt to disrupt the unity of the region, they would do well to leave and return to their origin, for Manipur's unity is non-negotiable."
