Car decals are one of our favorite things to make with our Cricut machine. Because they're going onto a car which will be exposed to the elements, you want to be sure that you apply these vinyl decals really well. We're going to show you our best tips and tricks for how to make and apply car decals with your Cricut. This is a beginner friendly Cricut project and once you see how easy it is to make, you're going to want to make some for everyone you know. This was one of the very first things I did with my Cricut. I made my logo with layered vinyl and my website URL on the back of my '99 Subaru Forester. It's been on for over a year; car is always outside, multiple car washes, snow, rain, etc. and it still looks great!
Then I did memorial lettering for my back window in memory of my little brother.
MGL is so awesome. A bit "high spirited" for a cynical person like me, but they do some wonderful things!!
I use one of your previous hacks for the pin pen tool. I use a regular automatic pencil and took the lead out and inserted a needle. I works absolute wonders!!
The ‘rip the vinyl’ trick with weeding is awesome! And you can do loooong takes with no errors 😊. Thank you for the tutorial!

This is EXACTLY what I’ve been looking for!
I find that it is a lot easier to line up the design if you trim the edges of the transfer tape and backing so they are square and centered with the design. It looks crooked and off center when the edges are crooked, torn, or do not have equal left/right and top/bottom margins. That looks great on your truck!

I’m finding that when putting a decal on an acrylic blank, the vinyl does not want to come away from the transfer tape. What would you suggest?

Hello, I just watched this video and I am going to put my first decal on my neighbors truck window. I would appreciate any suggestions you might have for me. I'm using 2 colors, the image is red with white letters on it. I have cut out the letters on the image, used the subtract feature. I'm a little (a LOT) concerned about getting it lined up just right.. Thanks

Thanks for sharing. Question, if I use Permanent Vinyl how long with the decal survive having rain and snow on the decal? I've been thinking to do this but worried about the weather effect. I know that I can do the decal in reverse and place it on the inside of the window. But what the viewers would see, would be the glue part of the vinyl and not the color part of it.

Since Michael wanted to laugh and not give you advice I will. There’s a few ways. Use a hairdryer on low from 1-2in away. If it doesn’t work use a hard card to work the air out.
You can also puncture the air bubbles with a pin and smooth them out
Ya I suggest using a sowing needle and a heat gun or hair dryer poke the bubble then heat lightly and use a debit card or credit card I'd whatever to smooth it out

What can you afford?
Can you put solid vinyl decals over the back window? Don't they block your view? What abut the bubbles I saw? How can you remove the vinyl if there is a mistake?
Solid will block your view, so it depends on your local laws. There are vinyls out there where you can't see through them on the outside, but on the inside you can. For example, there are privacy vinyls for windows that are mirrored on one side, but tinted on the inside to block UV and keep the room from being so bright.
To avoid those bubbles apply after spraying the area wet with water (some people use soapy water). It's easier to push out than air. It also helps to go MUCH slower and check your progress often. Had he not finished the application before revealing the bubbles he could have pulled the vinyl back up fairly easily still attached to the transfer paper.
Love the details in the video but do you put the glossy side down just couldn't tell because of the white decal 😊

Do any precautions need to be taken when washing the car with the decal on it? Can this go through a car wash without damage to the decal? Thx
I''ve taken my car through an automatic car wash 5 times and the decal is still on and looks as good as when I put it on. No pulled up edges.
Not unless it's printed. If it's a printed vinyl sticker double check that it's water proof. If it's not it'll likely wash the print away or water could seep under the lamination.

Hi!!! I love this!!! I have two really big questions (in my mind, at least, lol):
1)can this be adhered to the actual car's paint job without damaging the paint? And...
2) can this technique be done on a very thin piece of magnate so it's not only easily removed but also so that it can be repositioned and also reused?

Is there a way to make a decal/sticker for the INSIDE of a car window?
U can put the sticker decal anywhere but you be able see it outside or you would have to flip the words
@@jellen7332 - Yes, I get that. But what about a print and cut sticker...not a decal. If you flip that, then the glue is on the wrong side.
@@robira1313 I think Jellen means mirror it before you cut it so it cuts out in reverse, but then when applied, its the right way

Oh I saw a few tiny bubbles. I bet you fixed them.
What is your secret to removing bubbles? Sometimes when I burnish, a bubble or two pops up. Its almost a game between me and the vinyl.
For vehicles the first secret is to go slow. The second secret is to spray it down with water after you clean it. The water can be pushed out. A really good vinyl can also be lifted carefully during application to fix that. As long as it's not down the way this project is you run little risk of ripping or pulling it as long as it's not thin or small.
