Let's talk about the tradition of special birthday cast-ons. I've been doing it for 5 years and today I will show you all of my birthday knits.

I knew that some day you would turn out into a beautiful Finnish princess, which you already were, no doubt ! Your daughter must be so proud of you and happy :” My Mum is a princess, I can show you!” Happy birthday princess Jana ! Nothing “weirdo” about that !
I was born on my brothers 15th bday and sadly lost him to cancer a few years ago. We used to celebrate together. So now I always try and do something that he never got to do, for him. Eg travelling round Europe, bungee jumping, going to see the puffins in shetland etc. I love to think he's looking down on me and nodding in approval. 🥰

My birthday is 2 days after Christmas. Once my kids got older (17 and 19) my only ask for my birthday was to have the day to myself and then have their (and my husbands) company for the evening. I found as I got older I was 'peopled out'. I get up early, make my coffee, head to my craft room, turn on my music and enjoy the time to myself. Sometimes I knit, sometimes I read, when my husband gets up he makes breakfast and brings it to my craft room where we enjoy breakfast. I cherish it.
You are the one that introduced me to “Birthday Cast-ons”! I’ve done them every year now since 2021. Happy belated birthday, Jana. Thank you for the walk down memory lane with your lovely projects. I think your Fungi sweater is going to be (as ever) stunning!
Usually when you mention some background sounds I don't really hear them; but I am really enjoying the sounds of the rain! It doesn't make it harder to hear you, just a beautiful sound of nature. Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday. My Birthday treat is for my husband to take me to a yarn store which is further away than I like to drive and he buys me a bundle of yarn and we go home and I cast on a new project. I'm like a puppy dog so excited to go to the yarn store!

For my birthday many many years ago I gave birth to my oldest son, so ever since it’s been a joint celebration. According to him there is no need for anyone to buy me gifts since I have already received the best gift ever.

I also have a September birthday! The very last day. I’ve done a birthday cast on for a few years too but I start before my birthday, usually the first of the month, with the aim of finishing by my birthday. This year I’m knitting a Love Note. I absolutely love your fungi sweater and I’m adding it to my knit list.

Happy birthday gorgeous lady. ❤🎉 Your hair and the flower wreath are beautiful. My 2 sons celebrated their birthdays. Kieren's 30th on 12th Sept and my eldest Kyle's 33rd on Friday 13th. He was born on a Friday. The nurses said no he cant be born on 13th. I consider it a lucky day. So exactly 33years. Makes me feel old. My mother would not acknowledge mine till 5.30pm for the time of my arrival.

Happy Birthday Janna. No worries about the rain: I love the sound of rain on the roof. I have never cast on something on my birthday; probably because my birthday is just a couple of days after the New Year and by the time Christmas, New Years, etc. is over I just want to lay low and not do anything crafty. Sounds like a lovely tradition though.

My birthday is today, 16th September. I also cast on a sweater! We usually go out for dinner as a family on birthdays, but this year I am spending with my grandchildren, which is even better!

I too have a September birthday. It was 39.44 degrees Celsius / 103 degrees fahrenheit here in Southern California that day - so we stayed indoors in the air conditioning to try not to melt. A couple of days before that it had been 42.78 degrees C/109 degrees F. 😅 I knit on Frame Your Face cowl anyway in my TdF handspun 100% wool yarn.
It’s all good, one should a,ways treat themselves in a special,way on their birthday. Glad your was lovely 👏🏻

My birthday is a quiet day. My husband makes me a cake and a steak dinner.
My kids usually get me my favorite coffee and a plant.

Happy Birthday Jana!! I don't have a crafty birthday tradition but I should start one this year. I think lots of people have traditions that were started in 2020 when we all needed a bit of cheering up and have continued on with it. My sister and Mum and I started doing a Facetime call every Saturday to do a quiz in the newspaper together during the lockdowns and we still do it every week.
Happy birthday Jana! I love how you celebrate your birthday. For my birthday I seek out my friends and family and setup time with each of them. It usually takes about a month to meet with all of them and I have no qualms with that.
I treat myself at yarn festivals enough so I think for my birthday something I will introduce next birthday is a birthday cast-on. 😊Thanks for sharing the idea.

Well now, I think that a birthday cast-on is a perfect idea! I have actually been eyeing the Anne Ventzel Spot Cardigan pattern and just saw that it is set to be released on Oct 3rd - my birthday! It is my destiny! Now I just need to place a yarn order... ¡Feliz cumpleaños, Jana!

Our birthdays are in the same week 😀, and the past few years, I have treated myself to some special yarn, to knit myself a garment. This year I ordered a kit at Happy-go-knitty to knit the beautiful Low Tide sweater (pattern was released this week, so I treated myself to that too!). For my birthday we have a tradition of going to Powells book store here in USA and looking through floors of books and used books, picking one or two out then we go to dinner. My husband has his own tradition that your birthday is not just one day, its the whole month... so we do special things all month on our birthday months... like short day trip adventures and other small new things we dont usually do. I like his thinking!

I usually buy myself something yarn. Or fiber. But something people around me don’t get me because they don’t really understand me 😂. I hate my birthday too, people seem to forget mine because it’s always at the start of summer holidays so people are tired and getting ready for vacation. I hardly ever celebrate it. All I want is to go out to dinner with my daughter and husband and it’s allll good. ❤

I am currently trying to finish a jumper I started around my birthday last year (not exactly a birthday knit).
