I have multiple going for many of the same reasons. One additional reason for me is sometimes I want to feel an accomplishment to keep me motivated. Even though I see progress on my larger projects when I work on them they can feel like they are taking forever and they can the be discouraging. Having small projects to get some wins can help keep me from giving up on the big ones.

I have tons of projects on the needles. I like to be able to fit my knitting to my mood: intricate that takes concentration, mindless stockinette in the round/garter stitch flat, all of the previous in large vs. portable, etc. It makes me happy.

  • @knittingchick50

I’m not happy until I have 7 different WIPs going at once!😂 My mood can change mid-knit and I need to have an emergency project going at all times (emergency project is one that I can grab on my way out the door which requires very little concentration). Miles of stockinette can hold my interest for only a short time and complicated lace leaves me exhausted after one full repeat so alternate projects are essential to my sanity.

Monogamous here. I drag whatever project (mostly seaters and shawls) I’m working on everywhere with me. Exceptions are when I’m traveling with a lot of luggage - I may start a new smaller project (socks) for that trip. I have done multiple projects at the same time, but I usually feel pressured having several things going at once.

I am mostly a sock knitter. I have tried casting on multiple sock projects, but find I become so committed to finishing a particular pair that the others get neglected. Occasionally I will knit a hat or cowl, but I still find myself focused on one project over the others. I would definitely fall into the monogamous camp. In fact, I recently decided to stop trying to do multiple projects and just work on one at a time and then move on to the next. That’s what works for me.

Per your definition of monogamous crafter that fits me. I have one knit, one crochet, one cross stitch project going at all times and alternate working on them. I'll knit or cross stitch daytime crochet evening or former and knit evening. Works well for me! Having a pair of socks on needles at all times for portable knittkng is a great idea and I'll be adding that to my activity so I'll have two knit projects on my needles today. Thanks for that idea Chloe! Enjoyable episode as always. ❤

I knit and crochet, teaching myself to knit again. I have multiple knit and crochet projects all over my house!!! Yarn stashed everywhere, and patterns in my queue that I can't wait to start, lol. I need multiple projects because I get bored too. I need to jump back and forth, especially with large projects.

Multiple project knitter/crafter with a split personality here! I love having a lot of different projects on the go, but I struggle with the guilt of not finishing things faster. I'm going to apply some of your reasoning to see if I can combat the guilt factor (because I'm never EVER going to be a single project person!).

Definitely have several projects going, I need a small mindless project for waiting in the ferry line and Dr waiting rooms, one that is trying something new, and then anything else that I happen to have the yarn when I find the pattern because that's exciting 😁 I do dig out all WIPs in July and decide if I want to reclaim the yarn or do the project. Usually I find a basic scarf I forgot I was making. Recently found a snowman I started over 12 years ago and only needed to be sewn together HAHA! Lots of love from the Pacific Northwest 🧡

I am definitely not monogamous in my crafting. But when I started to organize and catalog my yarns, I also started to note down what projects I planned to make with them. I keep track in a little notebook as well as make notes on both the "Stash" feature and the project in my Library on Ravelry. That way I am not only remembering what I want to do with the yarn, I am also not purchasing more for projects when I already have something in mind. I am a process knitter, so having a lot (six to ten) projects going doesn't bother me. But I feel compelled to finish something when it's either a gift or I need the needles for something new to cast on. I enjoyed hearing your views on the topic (and watching you knit... I was working on TAAT socks while you talked 😊Once I finish a sock, the second is knit pretty quickly if I do them consecutively. But doing them TAAT tho slower - IMO - just makes it easier to keep track of everything).

I have a few wips at a time most of the time. Crochet and knit. I am ok with letting something hibernate for a while and most of the time I do eventually finish them. More than 4 or 5 active projects will give me anxiety but then I just decide which ones to put away. And socks don't count haha

I'm a monogamous knitter to the T. If I'm crocheting then no...I need 100 different projects. I get bored so easily. But knitting engages me enough, even if it's just stockinette, that I don't get bored of one project. Plus, I want the final product!

I like to have, something that requires my full attention, at the moment I’m working on a sweater, with falling leaves. And at the same time, I have a lace pattern on my needles, as well as a pair of socks and I’m also working on a mew pattern, that I hope to release in the near future ❤

I think of myself as a non-monogamous but committed knitter. Up until very recently, I would basically always have one sock on the go and one garment (either a tshirt, tank, or sweater, depending on the weather). I loooooove knitting socks and I bring them everywhere with me and having knitting on the go improves my life GREATLY, and I usually want something small I can squish in a bag and something I don't have to think about. I recently cast on a really fun cable sock pattern, and I'm really enjoying it but my rhythm is totally off! I don't really want to be knitting small, intricate cables on the train (maybe if I knew how to knit cables without a cable needle that would be easier) but even so, I want my portable project to be pretty mindless. So now I have my portable socks, my cable socks, and one garment. It feels a bit strange because when I'm knitting at home there's an extra decision for me to make - should I work on my cable socks or my tshirt? Which helped me realize that the reason I like having one portable project and one home project is in a big part to reduce decision fatigue!

  • @maureendesmarais6955
    @maureendesmarais6955 หลายเดือนก่อน

I am the opposite. As you said, it stresses me to have lots of projects as my brain can't handle getting back into the rhythm of the pattern, even with Knit Companion which I use on all projects except socks. I do have a small portable project, socks, and a large project, tee/sweater, on needles at all time. I am a project knitter versus a process knitter so FOs are a priority for me. I often change my mind on what project I'm going to use yarn for so I would not want it tied up on a started project. But that's just me 😊

I always have multiple WIPs. I’m like a magpie, I pick up a project as I learn a new skill or pretty yarn. Though I
Recently I finished two WIPs and a brand new sweater (even though I had to frog the entire project due to making it way too large. Seriously, I could fit three hobbits as well as myself) in a matter of three months. Now I’m frantically trying to find a bunch of projects to start.😂

I usually have 3 projects going at once: crochet, tunisian mosaics, and knitting.
As of today, I have 1 sweater on the needles, one baby blanket in crochet, and the Islands CAL by @TinnaThorudottirThorvaldar also in crochet
I like different sizes and/or fabrics due to my climate. High in the Andes desert mountains, we get 3 seasons every day: freezing cold, fresh and cool, and blazing hot. I won't work with a big wool blanket or an adult wool sweater (once past the yoke), during the heat of the day. Freezing cold is for the big wool blanket, and cool for wool sweaters.
I also get bored pretty quickly, so another reason for multiple projects. I can't imagine just one at a time.
Also, like you, I love feeling the different yarns and seeing different colors.
PS...after your last video, I purchased the Ranunculos pattern. I may start it before I finish one of my current projects--lots of new techniques for this newbie knitter.

Multiple WIPs. Different projects for different moods: easy, needs some attention, needs Total Concentration. Knit and crochet (so double or triple or heck, multiple-NOT-counting-project bags)…
When I falter (pause a project), usually it’s when I’m stuck on xyz technique or running low on yarn more often: my own designs/ideas and unsure where/when to join/finish. Vertical Garter stitch hats & fingerless mitts (fave!), using up stash so different needle sizes & hence gauge, I worry/fret/agonize it won’t be the correct size/fit.
Or a new yarn for socks = knit & frog to get correct fit (st pattern or new heel or new toe)…
My “new” mindset: Hats or mitts will fit somebody! My own sock fitting issues=let it rest. Make another pair I KNOW works. Return to Time-Out Sock.
Have a pair sitting & waiting, 2different toe shapes. Can’t decide which I like better. Solution: Finish the durned things!!! Wear them! Kicking myself (pun intended) for letting gorgeous yarn hide away instead of on my feet as I smile & admire them!
    We can be soooo quirky!
Sometimes I’m afraid to start on a large project (sweater) because I don’t want to “mess it up” or, gasp (!!) make it too big/small even though gauge is perfect. Sigh. I keep telling myself: make it, make another w adjustments if needed. Make more = most perfect, best-est fitting thing ever!
Thanks for this episode, I feel “antsy” if I can’t/don’t knit/crochet for a day or two. Hangry but with yarn…Yarn-gry? Wool-gry?
(sorry, too silly. back to my hat…)😅

I have form as an artist starting paintings I don’t finish so when I became a hand knitter I was determined to not start lots of knitting projects that I didn’t finish, so for the most part I’m really cautious about having multiple projects and I try not to have more than one major project and ideally maybe two smaller projects going on at any one time, however I find this hard to get right. Currently I have a big project that has been dragging on for ages and I really want to see the end of it so I am working monogamously. But I’ve been so obsessed with it that I have forgotten to cast something else on after I finished a hat and so I keep finding I’ve got nothing to take out with me at the last moment to knit on the road. 🤷‍♀️

  • @ExitSiign

Occasionally I’ll get super focused on a project, particularly gifts… and end up finishing those but if I set it down and lose momentum on it I’ll probably get distracted by something else.
I kind of feel that I’ll somewhat limit myself to not starting a really similar project to something else I’m already working on.. as much as cross stitch projects really differ from each other. Something has to be different about it like colors or this one is in beads or silk etc 😅 but for crochet I think I have an amigurumi in progress, a granny-square-esque blanket needing the pieces attached, some really cool yarn from Europe I can’t quite decide what to do with…
