Meiyazhagan was such a wholesome movie. 96 is my favorite movie of all time and his new movie carries same magic, brings smily face all the time. Hope Prem Kumar keeps making more and more movies.
No one does a round table like Anupama. Love the way she segues into the next part of the discussion - it’s so organic. And it was a great set of directors - all so very well spoken. Thoroughly engrossing watch.
It's only BW and South. I don't see other film industries like Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Assamese, Punjabi, etc. Besides, Marathi film industry had a good year.

Was so happy to hear/see this particularly C. Prem Kumar’s explanation of the 18 minute deletion. I am in the US and somehow was so lucky to see an unedited version. I love this film and hope that eventually the uncut can be eventually released. A between gem of a film…a film I didn’t realize I needed to see.
The beauty of 96 was the unfinished and unattainable love. If they had ended up together, the movie would have been a cliche. I hope he isn't writing it to just give them a cliche happy ending.
Great to see the directors of tamil films Amaran and Meiyazhagan in this roundtable. Amaran is one of the rare blockbusters where the heroine Sai Pallavi has as much screen time and is just as memorable as the male lead. Likewise, in Meiyazhagan, the female characters were memorable, despite their brief screen time.
@tweetsoftheweek i guess it was maybe becaue she wanted to mix tamil and malayalam while talking with Mukund....it not completly malayalam but the same in tamilish way
Honestly amaran within the commercial success film format like soldiers sacrifice for land and loving wife kind of sentiment we saw in many film even shersha . But meiazhagan is not within so called success formula its a daring attempt conversional film without even action sequence
@@aryaramachandhran7965 The last Tamil film with a sad ending that became one of the top 3 grossers of the year was Karthi's debut film Paruthiveeran, which was released in 2007. I watched those 18 minutes in theater and on Netflix as well... Prem the man who just proved that human emotions are enough to capture the audience rather than the gigantic larger than life scenes..... No villains no negativity.... Pure class in his both films.... And a proud Periyarist...
Lol periyar resented tamil kings and called them paarpana adimais. And his followers call jallikattu barbaric and regressive and there is no way periyar would have accepted jallikattu either, he termed every tamil culture as kaatumirandithanam
Lots of love and huge respect to Prem sir for bringing us meiyazhagan. The soft life that you show in the screenplay of your films is so so pleasing to watch Prem sir. And watched it the first day of theatrical release in Hyderabad.
1. Though I found Laapataa Ladies surprisingly good (antithetical to its director and producers' history), I loved Meiyazhagan despite watching it with subtitles. It was just such a good slice of life film without any manipulation of the audience emotion. 2. There's something far real, genuine and spiritual about the way the makers from the non-Bollywood background on this table. 3. Given Anupama's fondness for dark sets ever since moving to THR India, surprised she didn't get a black table 😂.
What do you mean by LL being surprisingly good and antithetical to producer and director's history. Kiran Rao has made one arty Dhobi Ghat before and has also collaborated with Aamir in many successful productions. She was a lowly AD during his first production Lagaan( which actually won an Oscar nom). And she was closely involved in his other prodns like TZP, Dangal, Secret Superstar -- all films that were a perfect mix of art and commerce. Not films to be sniffed at. Aamir and Kiran have in fact a history of producing good sensible commercially viable films.
agreed.. i felt the non bollywood directors were very honest to their craft & process..i used to like Kiran but somehow disappointed here in this interview where i found her process more corrupt along with imtiaz to be honest
Prem kumar is so insightful.. Especially the thing he said about using real set pieces , so that the actors can have that added input of touch. Even christo tony is such soft spoken and insightful. Imtiaz felt like a typical bollywood director , little bit of arrogance seeping out, and also feel he is overrated AF.
C Premkumar and Rajkumar periasamy - loads of respect ❤❤ please do not get corrupted with Bollywood style of working..they need to learn a ton from u guys and not the other way round!!
The "cheese" in Meiyazhagan was the scenes with the bull. It was portrayed a typical hero in mass movies, and swayed away from the peaceful light drama feel of the movie. They could have been avoided, but I guess the director wanted to share his opinion with viewers about Jallikattu through the bull.
Contrary to popular opinion I don't want Ram and Janu to be together...The story was beautiful in its incompleteness and in reiterating the fact that somethings in life doesn't fall into place the way you want it to be....maybe Ram can find a new love #second love🤷🏾♀️✌🏾
