Its Sissel who sings the background hymn in the Titanic Theme song, the one who was recorded in the extra clip here. Celene only performed the lyric part. As far I know..ehe...

When James Horner, from the Titanic production, heard her perform “Eg veit ei himmrrik ei borg”, which is a very old traditional Norwegian song . That we all sang in school, and in the church. He said, I’ve got the voice! That’s why she sings this, in the mid part of her performance. Sissel was very well known in Scandinavia, before Titanic. Since the age of 15. She sang during the opening of Winther Olympics at Lillehammer in 1996

I loved Sissel’s voice even before she became famous❤️
She sang in a choir in a tv show in Norway called “sing with us”, and I watched it because of her🥰

Her surname is like Shu sha ber. Horner actually composed the theme song with Sissel's voice in mind. The producers gave the job to Dion because she was well known in the USA.

@@NordicReactions As a Norwegian I recommend you go to Google translate and copy in "Sissel Kyrkjebø" in any language, translate it to Norwegian and listen to the Norwegian translation. Then you get it right.

She's mesmerizing isn't she? The 2nd recording was the one actually used in the movie. She IS well known world wide but she is NOT as well known in the states. And although she speaks and sings in absolutely perfect English she also sings in at least 14 OTHER languages throughout the world. And on top of all this? She's a beautiful Soul as well. Before her I used to follow a singer with a similar beauty to her Soul. You may have heard of her but she too was NOT very well known in the states. Her name? Judith Durham. For a sampling of her work you may wanna plug her into YT as well.

Horner was looking for a certain voice to intone the vocalise of the Titanic score. Dion he had for the song but he sought a modal singer. He heard a singer on a CD singing in a foreign language. It was Sissel. He persuaded her to LA to LA and record the intoning of the vocalise.
Interestingly, after Titanic, Siss was offered a multi million dollar contract to transfer her career stateside. She got on the plane and returned to what is more important than money: friends & family. So she's not as well known as lesser talents.

I think you have a ear for language👍🤗. Sissel Kyrkjebø can really belt out the high notes - and fun fact: Sissel and Aurora come from the same town Bergen ❤️ west coast of Norway. Maybe you should listen to another great musician/ singer Susanne Sundfør - also from the west coast ❤. She makes her own music like Aurora, and has a iconic status in Norway - like Sissel. Listen to her new material- leikare ljod : Alyosha

Lotr music is very inspired by different cultures, but heavy influenced by celtic vibes, which again is similar and also influenced by viking culture etc etc...the mix goes on xdxd

Sissel is singing in the original from the film, but that’s the song in this clip with no lyrics. So it’s not the theme song «My heart will go on». But it is played in the beginning and the end of the film.
Celine Dion sings the theme song. If Sissel had grabbed the opportunity when she was younger she would have for sure been very famous, but she chose to live here and in Denmark (I think) and have a more calm life. She was married to a Dane.

The reason why you think that Elvish and Norwegian sound alike is that Mr. Tolken built the Elvish language on Norwegian words.
Mr Tolken was very fascinated by Norwegian culture, the tall blond man and the fact that at the time he wrote The Lord of the Rings there were 3.4 million people who spoke Norwegian. Norwegian is a very small language that very few in the world can speak (today there are 5.2 million in Norway) Norwegian is a language that goes up and down with rolling r's. It is probably the closest you can get to Elvish in the whole the world in tone.
Mr Tolken liked our old written language such as runes and was deeply fascinated by Vikings and our folk tales. That's why you think of the Lord of the Rings when you hear the sissel singing.

She had the song firsthand, but was sacked. Afterwards she was very quiet for a long time. She never said anything about it.

They producers of the film demanded a more well known singer than Sissel to sing the title song.

Great reaction 🙂 Sissel is incredible. That was a Christian song first, and Sissel is a Christian herself. I am not, but still I think one of her most beautiful performances is of "Slow Down", performed live, together with the Tabernacle Choir. But there are countless absolutely beautiful ones by her. You will probably get a lot of suggestions from bigger fans than me when this video goes live 🙂 But MAYBE not the one I just mentioned😉 Love from Norway ♥♥♥♥♥

@@NordicReactions She is definitely up there, but it can be tricky to pinpoint who is THE biggest singer. We have contemporary artists like Aurora, Astrid S and Sigrid, just to name a few female artists, that belong there as well. Depends on which criteria you judge by I guess.

@@NordicReactions As an English speaker you can and should compliment her as a diva.
If a Norwegian says it however, the connotation is often a difficult, rude and "high on herself" celebrity.
