    A weird coincidence seeing a place called Clark's yard in the middle of Jack the ripper's hunting ground, when Peter Sutcliffe, the yorkshire ripper, worked as a driver for Clark Engineering 90 years later. Another excellent video, thanks.Interesting that the witness descriptions of men with moustaches and hats in those days didnt really narrow it down much, whereas now they most certainly would.

    Fantastic as always Ed. I don't remember hearing about the connection between the coffee shop/brothel and Pickfords before. An interesting one for sure.
    I've long thought Stride was hawking for business on Berner Street and the drunk that Schwartz is alleged to have seen walking along the street towards Stride (if it was her) was spoken to by Stride for a bit of 'business'. He was offended at the idea and reacted angrily and physically, but no more than that. Stride then dusted herself down and continued lingering and trying to hawk herself by the pubs and clubs then JTR came along. He may even have been being drawn to her because of what had just happened. The incident Schwartz describes does not seem to be a Ripper like blitz attack to me.
    Cheers. Enjoyed it as usual.

    I love how you highlight the fact that we have no way of knowing for certain if *any* of the witnesses even saw Liz Stride herself, let alone her killer! The accounts given to the police should be taken seriously, but also looked at critically. In this case, though, they provide no concrete lead...but they may have given Lechmere the idea to write Lipski where he dumped the torso at Pinchin street, if it was he who wrote it (no doubt in my mind he committed the murders, of course: both the White Chapel murders and the Thames torso murders).

    Thought that came to mind during your video. And you mention a "4-minute" window of opportunity.
    Broad Shoulder Man rough ups Stride. Either a pimp or someone out to rob a prostitute. Pipe smoking man is his lookout. Israel Schwartz strolls by and interrupts. Broad Shoulder man cries out to his pipe-smoking man “Lipski!’ alerting him to Schwartz presence. That man gives chase to Schwartz. Broad Shoulder man also takes off fearing Schwartz will bring the Cops.
    Then a “Good Samaritan” approaches Stride on the pretense of helping her. But in actually might have been stalking her earlier. He does the deed but can’t escape and hides in Dutfield’s yard until the coast is clear. Diemschutz entering the club. Then, it takes off.

    • @lyndoncmp5751
      @lyndoncmp5751 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      A very possible scenario. I like it. My own hunch was that Broad Shouldered Man was just a drunk coming along the street and was accosted by Stride hawking herself. He got affronted reacted physically. Then went on his way. Stride carried on lingering by the pubs and clubs and JTR came along 15 minutes later. He might even have seen the affray, as you noted.

    Excellent as always. I appreciate the carefully researched facts (from actual contemporary records, not just somebody's fever dream about prince whoever or someone equally ridiculous) and the accurate but sympathetic portrayal of the victims as what they were--women who, for whatever reason, were forced to make at least part of their living selling their bodies on the street. It makes perfect sense that the Ripper would choose these women as victims. They were handy, vulnerable, easily directed to suitably dark and deserted premises, apparently in a weakened condition and easily overcome. I doubt they were chosen because JTR hated prostitutes. Seems more likely he hated and resented all women, these were just the easiest to get. Brings to mind Edmund Kemper who killed hitchhiking co-eds to, in some way, destroy his hated mother. They weren't prostitutes but, like JTR's victims, put themselves in vulnerable positions and were thus easy prey. Keep up the good work, Mr. Stow.

    Something of interest.the private detectives mentioned in this video are ,le grand and batchelor.le grand was actually a career criminal and known to police,and its hard to imagine batchelor not being aware of his partners rap sheet.so this dodgy duo give the evening news a tip off about packer and while they did the give a false statement claiming to come from packer himself( which included an inaccurate height, sound and time he closed his shop).no confidence should be put into these two shifty chaps.the video also says alegedly ' a grape stalk was found,but we have a mrs harstein and mrs rosnfeild ( sisters) who saw this grape stalk in dutfeilds during the daytime after the murder. Another point worth remembering is p.c smith saw stride with a man across from packers shop at about12:35..

    Thank you for sharing your vast knowledge about the White Chapel Murders and the navigation through the crime scenes. It was always nearly impossible for me to picture Whitechapel's streets and many homes, workhouses, bars and alleyways. So I enjoy watching your walks through the historic streets, it gives me an idea of the place and fills in some questions that make me wonder about things witnesses say to the press. Now I don't know if anyone really saw Liz Stride with her killer that night but it seems very likely that he could have been hiding in the dark when Mr. Diemschutz brought his pony into the yard and made his escape when Mr. Diemschutz went inside the building for help. He must have just missed seeing Jack the Ripper. Still a terrifying tale after 136 years. One that has fascinated me since I was 12 years old and was told Jack the Ripper was Montague John Druitt. My feelings certainly changed concerning the White Chapel Killer over the years of reading and haunting the CaseBook and JTR Forums. My thought is that Charles Lechmere is most likely to be Jack the Ripper. I do admit to a small bit of belief in Joseph Barnett, still, too. Any way, your channel is just excellent, intelligent and entertaining. I can't wait for the next installment in this most fascinating series.

    Not sure if it has been asked, but does CA Lechmere have any association to the Jewish community? Was his mother's partners after Cross Jewish. Also they were in the Cat meat business, did the owners they work with be jewish? The message written in chalk seems personal to me, and trying to see if there is a personal angle here and not just an immunity feeling. Also where would the chalk have come from?

    • @thehouseoflechmere9407
      @thehouseoflechmere9407  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I haven't come across any direct Jewish connection, but they lived in the area that was settled by the first wave of Eastern European Jewish migration. These Jewish migrants changed the nature of the area around Berner Street quite quickly in the 1880s.

      @@thehouseoflechmere9407 so do you think the writing and the lipski slur to Schwartz are related?

    • @thehouseoflechmere9407
      @thehouseoflechmere9407  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think there may have been some significant in the use of Lipski as it was also written on a fence opposite where the Pinchin Street torso was found. I think the goulston street graffiti was probably aimed at Deimschutz, but equally it could be aimed at Schwartz, or both.

      @@thehouseoflechmere9407 when you think of it, it appears he committed two murders on the night of the double event, yet was so angry he had to leave a message. Why did he not leave a message on the crimes he committed - only on the people that interrupted him. Seems his acts did not quell his anger. And this event would suggest Jack was not jewish.
