  • Last week we checked in with Pat Kane and his skip row planting. Pat planted two rows of winter rye (7.5 inch spacing) and then left a 15-inch gap, which is where he will plant his corn. This system maintains the benefits of having cover on the landscape pulling up moisture and keeping nutrients on the field where they're need. It also increases seed to soil contact by not planting the corn right into the rye’s root mass. Additionally, by keeping the corn away from the rye, Pat is hoping to reduce the allelopathy effect. Keep up the great work!
