Diversified Cover Crops: Conards Farm

Check out the growth of this hairy vetch! This field, rented by Conards Farm, was part of the diversified cover crop project with US Fish & Wildlife Service. The project consisted of a 9-way cover crop mix, planted after winter wheat, to see how adding diversity into the system could benefit both soil health and wildlife. As you can see from this video, the field was full of life both last fall and this spring. Adding legumes to the mix, not only provides wildlife with a source of nectar, it also adds nitrogen back into the soil profile which benefits fields that are going into corn.
