  • The Suzuki Ignis is a plucky small SUV-sort-of-city-car that gives you loads of interior space, Apple CarPlay and a 4x4 system for under £18,000. In some ways it's basic, but it ticks all the right boxes and has a charm that shames plenty of other modern cars at twice the price. So should you buy one? Join me for a full interior review, driving impressions and handbrake turn tests. Erm...

    One of the first Suzuki cars imported into the UK in the 70s/80s was the rear wheel drive Whizzkid. The 3 slashes in the rear metal work of the Ignis are a nod to the styling of B the Whizzkid.

    I've had a new Allgrip for a few months now. It's fine, economical and drives pretty well. In 5000km it's been tested on mixed town, country and mountain roads and some autoroutes. Living in the mountains the 4wd, coupled with decent winter tyres, will get tested soon with winter arriving. The 30l tank is annoying only allowing 500km or so but I guess it's par for the course for such a small car. BTW it does have a reversing camera (French version).

    I have the SZ5 2021 - This one does have rear camera, have they down specced? Things of mention are hill assist handbrake, very good start/stop (no jerkiness, almost invisible in operation), a 4WD (+ hill descent) that actually works. Great LED lights in the dark. I came to this from the top spec Vitara, and I prefer it. Things I miss are the auto wipers, beep-beep parking sensors (though the aforementioned camera does help).

      Best car I've ever owned. Mind it is my first real independent purchase as my last two cars were a hand me down after I passed and then I had my mother's old car for 9 years.
      It drives really smoothly and the compact size makes parking such a non-issue. Plus it's rugged enough to be on the road and more uneven terrain. I only have the front wheel drive version and it feels way more outdoorsy still.

    A sensible review. They're a brilliant little car, a bit different to the norm and they're so easy to live with. We have a 2021 SZ-T CVT - the gearbox is actually pretty decent and it's very smooth - plus, it does just 2,000rpm at 70mph, which is better than the manual. Ours spends most of its life in town though, where its perfect! Weird how that one doesn't have a rear camera, ours does, and the collision mitigation system, and ours is a mid-spec SZ-T.
    I would say you do sit a bit higher than in a Fiesta though. Ours replaced a Citroen C3, which you do sit a bit higher in, but this is higher again.

    Really good review. I'm running a 65 plate Subaru at the moment and it's not the cheapest car to run and maintain, plus my dealer is miles away. I nearly got an Ignis hybrid allgrip new last year but the 7 month wait put me off. I was impressed with the ride quality, the acceleration is surprising with the little electric motor, it soon zipped up the motorway slip road with no need to floor it at all. Seriously looking at one of these now, cost of fuel is a rip off in the UK and these are good solid reliable cars. I'm 53, ive had a few fast cars but I value my clean license and I don't do many miles so this would be a very good choice.

    Suzuki is a favourite brand in our family! I owned a 1998 Suzuki Grand Vitara 5 door, a 2015 Suzuki S-Cross, and a 2016 Suzuki Grand Vitara 3 door. My son has owned a Suzuki Alto from new in 2012, and it's still his daily driver! He plans to drive it until it dies (if it ever does)! He'll buy another Suzuki then, whether it be a Swift, an Ignis or a Jimny. He's in Australia so all are possible. I suppose a Vitara would be possible too. And Suzuki also make great motorcycles!

This technology is less expensive and and is as easy to repair as manual gears. It is fun to drive and recently I took it to a hill station and it performed excellently. Not even once I did I feel the need of manual gear shift. The turning radius is awsome. The top fully loaded model is made by Suzuki India on order only, as the demand is less for this model because of its quirky design.

    I have a 2023 SZT auto CVT. In typical reviewer fashion he gives his opinion on the Ignis CVT without ever having driven one. Mine is only noisy when I really put my foot down which I very rarely do. I an not a boy racer!

    I see these things on the road I do think
    Yeh I’d have one
    Mini discovery looking car
    But alas I have three boys aged from 10 to 15 so it’s a clown car as opposed to a family.
    Great review Tim 👍

    I don’t know why but I have never been able to stand the ignis. Is it a hatch? Is it a 4wd? or does it just get bogged in any moderately off road scenarios?

    I wish the back was squared off like the old ignis instead of the slope. It’s much more practical when you need to get stuff in it. I have a 17 year old Automatic Ignis it’s fantastic, never let me down. I would love the new one for the comfort and tech but the sloped back ruined it. Even in this review when in the back seat the guys head was almost in the rear window. Pity because it’s so lovely.

    When I test-drove the Sz-3 (non hybrid) I was disappointed with the non-adjustable-height on the seat (bonnet a bit too high up for full vision for me) plus driving up hills felt as sluggish as my 1.0 Aygo does. I liked other things about it though but those 2 things put me off buying.

    I’ve got an Ignis, it’s a great small car with lots of space. But, I’ve got a reversing camera, not sure where it’s gone on the new ones. But it’s doesn’t have CarPlay. My car has a slightly nicer two tone black and pale beige interior which is a bit nicer than this piece of coal

    I got my Ignis Car 6 Months in India. Very Compact in Dimensions, well suited for driving in City. Helps get you around even in a Congested Traffic. But, equally well suited for HighWay as well.
    Only Con is Steering is Light and well suited for City and felt feedback is missing while Driving in Highways over 100 plus Kmph. Again, I am talking about my Experience in Indian Variant. Not sure about Australia or UK.
    In my experience, I feel it's a Allround Car. I am happy to have chosen this Car.

    • @KarthicVeeraswamy
      @KarthicVeeraswamy ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@ashuroking007 Looks like you don't know anything about Cars and Car Safety. Ignis is Global NCAP 3 Star Rated Car. Brezza, SCross are built on Global Platform are Global NCAP 4 and 5 Star Rated Cars. Am sure Grand Vitara will be 5 Star Rated car.
      Setting that NCAP Rating Aside, Cars are not Battle Tanks. You still need to Drive Safely, Sensibly and Responsibly. If you drive 100 plus Kmph recklessly you are doing your Coffin, 5 Star rating doesn't matter. Thosands of People still die in a 5 Star Rated Car. Recently, Cyrus Mistry including his Driver died in 5 Star Rated Car in an Accident. Yes his Driver had worn Seat Belt. Accidents do occur and Survival is based on Pure Luck than mere Safety features.
      There are several factors that lead to Car Accidents and Car Crash. Know the Car Condition & it's Dynamic, Road Conditions, Climate Conditions and Drive the Car Accordingly. You even need to Anticipate what Driver in Vehicle Ahead of you is going to do Apart from his Signals.
      So, Always Drive Safely, Sensibly and Responsibly.

      Thats a sensible reply. Now a days it has become a trend to demean buying maruti cars. That too from fan boys of 3 cylinder weird sounding Tata cars.
      The fanboys miss 2 aspects
      1. The ncap tests are conducted at 60 kmph not at 100s
      2. When you buy a car, reliable engine is Paramount, rest all are desirablw features.

    • @KarthicVeeraswamy
      @KarthicVeeraswamy ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nareshbabukunche3941 Absolutely, Refinement Level of 4 Cylinder cannot be unmatched. Maruti Suzuki Engine is a gem of an Engine, very smooth, responsive, well refined & fuel efficient. One of the best if not the Best.
      Ford's 3 Cylinder Petrol Engine is surprisingly well refined. I guess Tata missed an opportunity to use it. It would have been beneficial for both Tata and Ford & its Employees as well.
