Just heard this for the first time... I absolutely love it. I have great memories from family party's as a child, with Chas N Dave playing having a knees up.... and being a fisherman this song brings the memories flooding back. They were great songwriters and musicians x
Beautiful. Very moving and inherently nostalgic. One of our favourite Chas and Dave songs now.. RIP Chas. Thanks for all the great memories and music. Dave, special thanks to you too. 🍻
Love these 2 so much.... There will never ever be another Chas and Dave.... So many people underestimated how talented they actually were...they were both great talented musicians and just loved that old London cockney sound...I'll always play their songs.. ❤️
Whilst watching the new Series of Canal Journeys on Channel 4 this week with Sheila and Giles, they had a visit on their boat by Chas’s Son and Dave where they played this tear jerking, beautiful and so,so heartfelt, song, like many others, the tears were falling. Chas, WE LOVE AND MISS YOU. Dave, please keep the memories going, THANK YOU both for being you and giving us some fabulous music over the years.
Chas and Dave have always been around my life with their smiley music...now Chas has left us i feel a real sadness......thankyou lads for great music and great memories ....love this song......all very moving
RIP Chas, Part of my childhood! Me...... My Dad ........My Gramps! All in our local! After lock in! Very special memories. As they say......"You don't know what you got, till its gone"! My thoughts and prayers go to Chas's family and Dave. P.S. "Dave, please, please, please, don't stop playing music that we love"!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rockney til the end, legends of our time and I swear your hard work will not end now your gone Chas,my children will still being singing your songs in 70 years time.R.I.P.XX
I was lucky to see them relatively recently in Southend. The first thing Chas said when coming on stage was 'The good news is, I'M CURED!!" Three months later he was gone. Very sad and a great loss to music, his family, friends and fans. Just goes to prove we need to live for today people, tomorrow is NOT promised to any of us! R.I.P Chas mate.
I had the pleasure of living in the same village as Chas and got to know him well, it always brings a smile to my face seeing his son driving chas' old Willie's Jeep around the village
Just heard this on Radio 2 for the first time.. brought tears to my eyes.. such a lovely tribute.. now playing my favourite from you both..No pleasing you.. grizzling again!!
RIP CHAZ. .Dave you n Chaz were awesome..I saw u live 5 times..A few times with the kids..We.ll never forget it..God bless you sir...Keep strumming although i know it'll be tough with out he other half...xx xx xx
Just read about Chas passing. Incredibly sad news. My dad loved this duo and my husband and I were watching this episode and it was as if he was saying goodbye!
Have seen the boys many times they loved playing in and around Devon where I live and always had a great reception I have personally signed cds which I will now cherish ,fantastic musicians, Dave Peacocks bass playing is as good as any bass player ive ever seen and Chas keyboard skills were awesome not forgetting the great Mickey Burt, RIP Chas,i do hope Dave finds the strength to carry on,will miss them.
Absolutely brilliant. Reminds me of me and my old man on the Lee at Cheshunt in the late 70s. happy days ! Blighmy I didn’t realize how much i missed the old days till I heard that.
My boy has started fishing now, and I took him to see C&D when he was only 7, now he's almost 14 and he still remembers the day and knows the songs! Wonder where he is now.. probably rocking the tunes somewhere... RIP Chas... Legend! x
I am guilty of severely underrating Chas n Dave. Always saw them as a bit of a novelty act, but one I had a sly fondness for because they were a good novelty act. Only with the passing of Chas, and the outpouring of tributes to their vast body of work, have I finally realised just how good they were as musicians, songsmiths, and performers. This was my mistake, and I'm gonna own it. Hope this occasion has led others like me to reevaluate these guys. And for those of you who saw it all along: you were right, and I'm sorry I never saw it until too late.
last saw Chas & Dave at the Albert Hall, in what i guess was there last concert. the place was packed to the rafters and did they Rock The Joint. marvellous.
This song is now super haunting and poignant in the wake of Chas’s death. It sort of feels like an older man looking back on the memories he made with his best friend who has since died. The lyrics are poetically beautiful, far more than one would expect for Chas And Dave.
It will be four years tomorrow since we lost Chas. This clip is so poignant. As the song by the Holloway Echoes band says, 'There'll never be a world without Chas Hodges'.
I'm sad for Chas, cos hardly anyone's even heard of Heads Hands & Feet, one of the best bands of the early 70's, where Chas played bass, acoustic, keyboard, & fiddle
There is a pub still remaining in Enfield called ''The Wonder''. Strange coincidence maybe?! My Granddad (Big Jim Gardner) was a well known regular & a popular piano player there in much the same style & appearance as Chas & Dave for many years before ''Gertcha'' & ''Rabbit'' became hits. In more recent years, one of Chas's Family often played the same piano in the same pub. I know Chas & Dave had local roots & connections. Wonder if there is a link there somehow. Many great timeless tunes!!! Some that seem to get better with age!!! Good times!! Happy Day's!! Many pre- technology memories!!! R.I.P. Mr Hodges.
Brought tears to my eyes.Memories of the days I went down the canal fishing with my dad.I'm 76 now! Great song boys.
This comment really touched me. The Best
this is the best comment says everything in one line
Me to!! fishing with my Dad on the canal near the lock, 16 hook, the bait was flour and water mixed to a dough, happy days.

Admire your honesty!! Well said!
Well I made exactly the same mistake, so you're not alone! A class act, happiness wrapped in music - to take a quote from my old man.
Dude check out their CV's. They're musical royalty.
I'm guiltily of the same.. Such great musicians.. Didn't realise untill it's late.. And for that I'm Sorry.
Rip Chas
