B.B. King is the greatest living exponent of the blues and considered by many to be the most influential guitarist of the latter part of the 20th century. His career dates back to the late forties and despite now being in his eighties he remains a vibrant and charismatic live performer. B.B. King has been a frequent visitor to the Montreux festival, appearing nearly 20 times, so choosing one performance was no easy task. This 1993 concert will surely rank as one of his finest at any venue. With a superb backing band and a great set list its a must for any blues fan.
The thrill is gone
The thrill is gone away
The thrill is gone baby
The thrill is gone away
You know you done me wrong baby
And you'll be sorry someday
The thrill is gone
It's gone away from me
The thrill is gone baby
The thrill is gone away from me
Although, I'll still live on
But so lonely I'll be
The thrill is gone
It's gone away for good
The thrill is gone baby
It's gone away for good
Someday I know I'll be open armed baby
Just like I know a good man should
You know I'm free, free now baby
I'm free from your spell
Oh I'm free, free, free now
I'm free from your spell
And now that it's all over
All I can do is wish you well

that's for sure
Truly the KING of the blues. He has no rivals
It's been 30 years, and is still one of the best Blues perfomance ever recorded... CRAZY
Raw talent never gets old.
Not crazy. It's BB King. But yeah I feel you.
There are literally blues joints around the country dedicated to this dude. One of the greatest, if not the greatest, blues men of all time.
Here's a great tale about a great man. I met BB King in an airport lounge when I was about eight (thirty+ yrs ago now!) in Sydney, Aus. He just rocked up to the viewing window while I was waiting for my aunt's plane to land. He must have been awaiting his baggage or something. Any rate, he just started chatting to me and he asked me if I played any instruments. I told him I had just started playing guitar. He got really excited, and told me he played "a bit" himself and said I should listen to and learn the blues above all else. I'll always remember, he told me where he was from, in the USA, the blues was the "start of it all". Then he gave me a plectrum and said it was a special plectrum just for blues players. About that point, I recall my dad coming up and he just started chatting with my dad, who of course recognised him. They had a good yarn, we all took a photo together (which my parents still have in an album somewhere) and then he very politely took his leave and wished us well. Such a humble man. Dad told me all about him on the way home and I immediately started learning about the blues and never looked back. Over the years, I would go on to watch him perform live several times though we never met in person again. RIP big man.
" They had a good yarn, we all took a photo together " bruuuuuuuh thats nuts
@@SinisterAnimationS I know huh? I remember it was really quiet at the airport at the time because there was a major pilots' strike going on. There were only a few flights all day. I think that's why he was able to move around freely without media in his face etc. His whole crew was milling around and they were supporting U2, so I also saw Bono walk past. I didn't recognise BB at the time, but geez he was nice to me and I get the feeling he enjoyed being anonymous for a change. I can't tell you much of what he and dad talked about (the memory has faded a bit) but I remember dad was super impressed with how "laid back" and friendly BB was and it felt like they chatted for a good ten-fifteen minutes. And we didn't even approach him - he approached me. What a legend!
@@fredbloggs8369 What a wonderful story and experience. My son was backstage at the Blues Festival in Byron Bay some few years ago and he became aware of and nodded to a man standing next to him also watching performers from the edge of stage. It was BB King. He listened with him and said 'They make a good sound'... my son was so chuffed to have a few words with this fantastic man. RIP BB
That’s a great story! What better inspiration to start playing the blues
Now that, was truly an amazing story and tribute. Thank you!!!
Guys, I have no idea what we would do without music.
Same here dude, specially during this outbreak
What would we do without blues?
We would be empty, my Life is based on It, i would have died years ago
Music is the answer 🎶
Klemi Doz hell yeah to that !!
I love how the blues gets down under your skin and you feel the music, your body responds to it instead of just using your ears to listen. Great music.
The BLUES came from poverty and sadness.
It is the cry of anguish from they heart.
Deaf people: 💀
His music will be eternal
Thank God the camera person was smart enough to zoom in on BB's hands while he played. Thank you, Unnamed camera person!
Actually the unnamed director, camera person and others TY all
When I was 21 years old I took out a credit card and travelled from New Zealand to the States just to see BB. I'll never regret the 5 years it took to pay off, & I'll never forget being fortunate enough to meet my hero. Thank you.
Sometimes, ya just gotta. Well done and money well spent.
That's an amazing story to tell
fucking legend!
This is why I seek out young musicians. By the time I get to see someone like BBK they daed
Oh wow...incredible
It is funny how a quick go on youtube you will find the most amazing guitar players, playing better than the biggest guitar legends but not a single one of then can give the vibe and feeling these legends gave and still give, BB King with its gentle and smooth tone always gets me.
BB King is one of the biggest guitar legends
don't talk like that about his weight @@adama4791
He is not dead...he lives in our hearts....❤
sehr schön gesagt😉😘
He's not playing music.
He's not feeling music.
He's not living music.
He's the music.
Nobody can play the blues like BB King
Caçador de Buceta he’s not feeling the music? His facial expressions tell me otherwise
I couldn't agree with you more pussybuster! !!!!
He is the music because he is playing feeling etc...
a but non lucratif❤
I know everybody talks only about BBs guitar playing... but man oh man could this guy sing!!!
+Marko Kecman : I have a couple of early B.B. King "race records" that are much more jazzy than blues sounding, and on them he hardly plays at all- he just sings. His guitar playing pretty much overshadowed everything else, but I agree with you.
+Brian Griffin I agree but not at the same time for some reason
badger56ful It’s called “call and response”. Most guitarists use this technique. The singing is the “call” and the guitar is the “response”
Its no wonder they call it "SOUL" music, that is pure and raw talent in every way shape and form, B.B King, you influenced a lot of people in every genre of music,
Rest Easy B.B, we lost a good one❤
The Thrill of Blues is never quite gone.
And BB was a King.

The guitar speaks every language without using any words. The thrill is immortal.
The older one gets, the more one appreciates the blues.
Agree. I've recently hooked to blues.
Im currently doing a report about its influence on rock in my school. I didnt realise the enormous influence blues had on all the genres you see today. Literally all genres have been atleast somewhat influenced by blues.
@@huss2600 yeah, definately rock was born out of the blues .... both blues and the likes of bluegrass were heavily influenced by European traditional sounds from Ireland, Scotland even Germany.
@@arnie8604 Interesting! I didnt know blues were influenced by european traditional music anyways do you have any information on blues it would be very helpful right.
Which blues artists influenced rock and how?

I guess thats perfect because the blues was created by those feelings.
Rest Easy the King of the Blues! If you don’t get chills watching and listening to this check your pulse!
King, is king, simple and cool, he is the GOAT.
"Blues is easy to play but hard to feel" -Jimi Hendrix..
And damn, BB only played few notes. Even with just the tonic, he made it very emotional.. Legendary tone and vibrato.. That's why he's one of the Kings of blues
He was just really damn good at spacing his melodies, even more so when trading between vocals and interlaced guitar lines.
It's not easy to play either
You got that right!
@@dominikweber4305 Right. Its sound easy to play n it is easy to learn. But actually playing n sound like blues is kinda hard.

A música me leva ao palco sem estar presente. Minha alma
What I admire so much about B.B. King is that, in this case, after the first "The thrill is gone," he can literally just play one note and include more emotion in that one note than many guitarists do in an entire solo.
metalmusician6798 Right on! you totally hit it on the nail... The best musicians never have to OVERPLAY. Too many notes often become musical aerobics and don't fool anybody, because the Thrill of Music is Gone!....
+metalmusician6798
you see you cannot really say that because the emotion is attached to the actual song he is playing. it is the emotional content of the song. but sure one shud be able to cover this song and express it similarly and many can't
+27scole vgh
+metalmusician6798 , and if you have a rack with some large speakers that magic sound from the past comes alive . Kids today who only know music from their PC are missing out , sad .
+metalmusician6798 I love it when he chimes the strings. It's awesome to see, at his age, even back in '93, that he still clearly loved to play around with his guitar. Also, his Gibson is one of the best, if not THE best sounding guitar I've ever heard. He had such an extensive amount of control though, so I can't say he couldn't just do that with anything.

Man... from this video it is clearly visible that he lived for music. Every note he plays, every movement, everytime he closes his eyes, every "silly" face he makes; music makes his heart beat. I am more of a Metal guy myself, but damn, do some shredders have to learn what actual, emotional guitar playing sounds like!
+Lucas Zech Yeah, look at his face, hes living the music, that´s why he was a master, a legend :D
+Lucas Zech thx for comment.. beautifully said
+Lucas Zech couldn't have said it better, totally agree.
They need to learn that silence is a note too ;)
I dont think it is something you can learn.
I really don't understand people who dislike TH-cam videos. You've searched/clicked a BB King video, and here is is, in HD, at his very best. And you want to let the world know you didn't like it.
Nope. Don't get that.
Matteoj they don’t appreciate real music!
These days suggestions drive video selection more than deliberate searches.
Matteoj let’s pray for such people and assume that they did click by mistake.
maybe they wanted a studio version without the live version noise?
neither do i dude, its ok not to like bb king, but dislike?? come on

You don't need a million notes to bring out the emotions and make the guitar cry. Hail the King.
B.B. King, not only an innovator of the Blues but a pioneer of one of the most important parts of playing any instrument - feel. His guitar was a part of him and it's strange to think they will never be played the same way again.
James Bell Good job he had 'feel'; when you only play two notes most of the time you need trailer loads of 'feel'. I went to see him on his farewell tour at Bournmouth and. mostly, he played the same two notes then and not a chord in sight. I know blues is more about feel than technical wizzardry but a broader range with 'feel' has to be more moving. Gary Moore supported him - he had just as much 'feel' but he played a wider range of notes.
