Possibly thee anthem to all married blokes around the world with ever single word sung with sincerity by Chas and Dave a couple legends from our once fantastic country Great Britain.
Genuinely one of the best British ballads ever. From the unmistakable drum intro onwards it never misses a beat. The tune is gorgeous, with the string section giving it a touch of class and the lyrics are superb. Front and centre, though is Chas Hodges with probably his best vocal performance, a mixture of longing and bitterness delivered with real style. One of my favourite songs that still hits the spot after all these years
Their documentary was a brilliant eye opener (at least for me). Fantastic musicians with great credentials...plus one of the greatest pop couplets appears in this very song: '...And if you think I don't mean what I say and I'm only bluffin', you've got another thing coming, I'm telling you that for nothin...' after writing that, I think I'd take the afternoon off!
They say the music represents the people of the day. This was a time when we didn’t take ourselves too serious. I used to play this to my wife and mother-in-law they loved it. 😅
Its the mid 1980s and im in a pub down bermondsey on a Saturday night and this fantastic song comes on and everyone in the pub sang along. Happy memories...❤❤
Pub piano sound....just great. Probably some jobsworth would say 'Too loud"....if there were any pubs.. you know. With cigarette machines and ashtrays and no 'Nosmo Kings" Allowed.
Next time your old woman starts yapping and giving you gyp , stick some pods in , put this on full volume and just say " up yours" ... Just for 3 mins you are the king 😅
Not to put too fine a point on it, but there’s a lot of very average stuff there; Demis Roussos, Wurzels, Bay City Rollers et al. Thank God punk stirred some of this lot up.

Love the way Dave comes in to contrast Chas's voice especially at 1.32. This is a classic.

working class music for the people
Pardon?
Music doesn't have a class. It's either a sound you like or don't.
Nice to hear a proper accent for a change ❤
Yes it's very hard to hear that accent in London now.
Thanks you. Pure talent 👍
Chas & Dave 😮😮😮 Get In! ❤

Imagine singing with them in a pub
Good tune, I remember it from the 1980s it just seemed to pass me by.
I wasn't sure of their image then? how shallow 😮.
Looks like jimmy white on the drums
Fred Dineage on first violin? 🎻 🤔
Looks like the brilliant Mick Burt to me.
