  • Recipe here: www.joyofbaking... Stephanie Jaworski of Joyofbaking.com demonstrates how to make Biscuits. A perfect biscuit should have a golden brown crusty top and bottom and when you split it in half it should be soft and flaky and moist enough to absorb a pat of butter, which is absolutely necessary. These biscuits fill that bill perfectly.

I recommend not using your fingers, heat from your fingers will melt butter, use fork or knives as she mentioned, will make your biscuits more flaky

Broke or rich makes NO difference. Homemade southern biscuits are THE BEST!!! They are inexpensive, delicious and fun to make. My only objection ( I ADORE Stephanie) is that I would never bake biscuits without using buttermilk. It brings the flavor over the top. Every woman born and raised in the south uses buttermilk. I hope that you set aside one morning a week and bake some biscuits! Your kitchen will smell phenom!!!

I know this was posted more than 3 years ago, but I must say "wow", fabulous. I followed the video precisely as far as steps. As far as ingredients, I did substitute almond milk for the regular milk and Truvia Baking Blend for the sugar. I then placed the biscuits atop a chicken pot pie concoction I had made. 400 degree oven (uncovered) for 20 minutes and the biscuits turned out a perfect golden brown, and delicious. Thank you soooo much.

Perfect recipe, and she’s really good with her hands. I like the fact there’s no nail polish on her nails, no bracelets on her wrists, and a bunch of rings on her fingers. I say this because I’ve seen women with all that plus long sleeves both sweater and shirt giving a tutorial on how to make the perfect biscuit. I like to be clean and free of junk when I cook and bake.

Fantastic recipe!!! These are the best biscuits I have made yet. I used salted butter and 1/8tsp of salt. The secret or trick is...after its all mixed up into dough...fold the dough 3x, then press down to desired thickness. Take your biscuit cutter and cut your circles. Your end product will be a very flaky delicious biscuit.

This is a good, easy-to-follow recipe. I used to wrap left over biscuits in a paper towel and reheat them in the microwave but I've found that they turn out much better if you cut them in half and heat them in the toaster oven. I stop short of turning them into toast.

Love your videos! I make a lot of biscuits(we call them scones) and a never fail recipe I use is 3 cups S.R flour, 1 cup heavy whipping cream and 1 cup lemon lime soda. I know this sounds strange but this recipe makes light and fluffy biscuits each and every time! Mix, then put mixture onto a floured surface and knead very lightly. Cut into shapes, brush milk over the top and cook in a 400 degree oven for roughly 10-12 minutes.

I'm looking forward to heating some in the toaster in the morning. Then slathering them with homemade butter and marmalade. I think they taste good the next day. I also like them with peanut butter and jelly, so I don't always eat them savory.

I just made these & they turned out wonderful thanks.
Something I do differently is keep the butter & flour in the freezer, & keep everything else in the fridge till I'm gonna use them. I grate the butter with a cheese grater, then put it back into the freezer. This way I don't have to break the butter up. I like how you don't use a rolling pin bc you really don't need it. Plus it would make the biscuits flat & nobody wants that. They are easy to open when you do them tall & cylinder like.

William Wynn: I tried making biscuits once - years ago, with lard - never again! They turned out heavy (they actually looked shrunken) and you could taste the lard - yuk, and they didn't taste like biscuits!!!
I now use Crisco vegetable shortening, which has no flavor. You really need to use a recipe when you're making these - it makes a difference. I've made biscuits probably hundreds of times over the years, and I still use a recipe book - I never bothered to memorize the recipe, like my Mother did! ; ) Happy baking!! : D

This is a very simple and easy recipe. I made these ( I used frozen grated butter) and buttermilk instead of regular milk. These came out perfect and flakey. Although, didn't like the sweetness. I'll just leave it out next time...This by far is the best!!! t

+Jill Smith They aren't the same as biscuits...or at least don't taste the same...it tastes more bread like than scone like...and they rise like a bread dough too

I've been making biscuits both at home and professionally for 40 years and the moister the dough the lighter and fluffier the biscuit is. =)

I just tried this recipe and the dough came out real dry? I tried to finish them, but the butter just melted out of the sides leaving them like semi-cooked play-doh? I think I'm just going to shoot a hole in my oven....

  • @joyofbaking
    @joyofbaking  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Too much flour or over working the dough could be the cause. And make sure your baking powder is fresh. To test baking powder's effectiveness: mix 1 teaspoon (5 grams) baking powder with 1/2 cup (120 ml) hot water and the mixture should bubble immediately. Store in a cool dry place and it should be replaced every 6-12 months.

I made these today and they turned out delicious 😋 I was skeptical on using the egg cause other recipes don’t use any but guys give it a try and you won’t regret it I did folded the dough couple of times before cutting it and also added one more min to the bake time thanks Steph!!
