Have you ever tried grating frozen butter?....I get some fantastic results with this approach. Just grate it over the flour, tossing it every few times to keep all the pieces separate and you get a wonderfully even dispersal.
John, I’ve made these twice this week. My goodness… Easy AND delicious? YES and YES! Thanks so much. Love your recipes, videos, blog, and cookbook. You are the first resource I seek out for recipes. Thank you for being a part of my kitchen!
I’m a 14 year- old who just baked sugar cookies for the first time ever for today’s friends giving. Now I will be using your recipe for other meals I want to prepare for thanksgiving, wish me luck :)
@@chokmahhalacha3171 they came out a bit hard but that’s cuz they were small, but it tasted really good and my sister who was doubting me thought so too!
Congratulations and welcome to your baking journey! John is a great teacher, and there are so many great teachers on TH-cam. You've got a lifetime of learning ahead of you and the best part is you get to eat your experiments!
I love this guy, he is a pleasure to watch, very entertaining. Easy recipes to follow for a guy like me that's not an expert in the kitchen. The extra goodness from his recipes for bread and cookies is a fantastic bonus.
My Mom loved Buttermilk; she’d make biscuits just about every weekend, I’d brown some country style ribs and slow cook(eight hours)I’d fix her plate with a biscuit - she was in heaven. Thank you for the recipe and letting me remember more fun times with Mom
Growing up in South Africa, in Durban, land of the Zulus, fermented milk called Amasi. maas or Inkomasi, so basically buttermilk, was very popular. I used to love eating it in a bowl with sugar, but it was also consumed as a drink. Good memories...
Oh, I know what you mean. My one grandmother would toast or not toast rye bread if it was warmer weather out and she used the upstairs kitchen. She had one in the basement to use (primarily a stove) for when it was warmer out or summer. But, it's good toasted and slightly cooled to then smear it with sour cream then sprinkle sugar on it.
omg i made these. I also have made numerous biscuit recipes on my search for the perfect biscuit. THIS IS IT! I have even tried John's previous homestyle biscuit recipe from a year ago which i did not like. THESE right here are what biscuit dreams are made of! You the man John!
Thank you for always being a reliable baking channel I can come to when I need help learning a recipe. I have these biscuits in the oven right now for my partner. Made them with homemade butter/buttermilk. I love that I can always make one of your recipes with confidence that it’ll be excellent
I made them today my eldest of six said they were the best in the world!!! The children indeed enjoyed helping. Thank you for the tip with the folding that is what my biscuits were missing!
Man let me tell you! I just made these for breakfast and OMG! Perfection! I also used your Key Lime and Sweet Potato Pie recipes…, changed my life! Your cucumber salad too! You are making me a better cook! Love your channel! ❤
Made these buttermilk biscuits today..and They turned out Wowww...crispy outer and soft inside..with the honey butter, is something else..Thank you, Preppy Kitchen for this super recipe. 😊
All the biscuit recipes I ever read say never use a rolling pin to roll out your biscuit dough! Thank you for this video loved seeing you use a rolling pin and still getting beautiful biscuits as a result!
When I was growing up, my mom read us Laura Ingalls Wilder books, and the description of buttermilk was so amazing I knew I must like it! I drank it fairly often. It came with “real butter flakes.” 😄 I still enjoy the flavor. Thanks for another great video!
Happy Thanksgiving Preppy Kitchen. I wish I could post fotos. My biscuits were very high at least two inches plus and unbelievably flakey. So flakey I Had to carefully transfer from sheet to basket. Family was raving. Living at almost 8,000 feet, my goal has been to make the best fluffy biscuits and I finally achieved it, thanks to you. I think that the added teaspoon of baking soda (that you almost forgot) did it. It’s not in your basic biscuit recipe. Everyone took some home so will have to make a small batch tomorrow morning to make the tiny turkey sandwiches. Pillsbury dough boy, thanks for the memories, but we are not purchasing you anymore.
Our Strawberry Shortcake always used baking powder biscuits for the base. Thawed frozen strawberries and freshly whipped cream. Yum! We made Drop Biscuits, stirred together like mashed potatoes texture. and spooned onto a baking sheet instead of cut out. Uses slightly extra milk. Break the top half off and spoon the berries in the center. Place the top part on and add more berries and whipped cream on top. Not too sweet. Goldilocks would say, “… it’s just right!”
Made these biscuits today. I did grate my butter. Baby, these biscuits were so light and fluffy. Just delicious. I ate two before I had a chance to finish making breakfast😊
Yes lunch with my grandpa! Was a piece of corn bread with honey and some butter milk! Still one of my favorite lunches especially after working in the garden all morning
This recipe reminds me of when I was in homemade class in HS, making a layer pastry crust. We usually used it for a Curry Puff, a famous Southeast Asian snack.
Made them this morning! They turned out great. Mine weren’t beautiful like yours were, but they will be one day. Thank you so much for making this video!
Oven 425F 2 cups all purpose flour 1 tbs baking powder 1/4 tsp baking soda 3/4 tsp salt 2 tsp sugar (he said the sugar makes them softer) 6 Tbs COLD butter 3/4 cup COLD buttermilk Brush tops with buttermilk before baking Bake 12-15 minutes until golden brown

First off love your channel.. Well, I’d say leave off the sugar, melt the butter and mix in and then chill the flour mix indefinitely. I keep pre-chilled, pre-buttered dry batter always. Then all I need to do is wet and bake. I can make two biscuits or ten. I also like pinching hand rolled batter and bake in a buttered ramekin. I show you a picture but this is your channel🎉

Hi John. I actually grew up drinking buttermilk. I would pour some in a small bowl add a few drops of tapatio and salt and pepper warm up some corn tortillas. Yum
Add toasted pecan chips (not ground to dust, but chopped to about the size of a peppercorn) & powdered sugar (1 tbsp at a time to taste) to the honey butter. The result is fantastic on biscuits, pancakes, waffles, cornbread, pound cake, et cetera. Enjoy!
I like scissoring two butter knives to blend butter into the dry mix instead of a pastry blender. I have hot hands too. When I was a kid, my Dad loved buttermilk, and always tried to get us to drink it. I hated it. Loved scooping the cream off the top, though.
I've always loved drinking buttermilk. When I was young, I used to sprinkle salt in mine. Of course, now I know that's not good for you, so I had to stop adding the salt. 😢 I still love drinking buttermilk. 😋
Just cut the dough into squares, that way you don’t have any leftover dough you have to mess with that doesn’t come out as good as the first batch of cut dough.
My moms has a dairy right down the street and I totally overbought the buttermilk. I have about a gallon so this is gonna be great to use it before it goes bad. Thanks! Edit: Good god, the finished product was like chasing a food dragon to Valhalla 🤤

You can use a coarse cheese grater for the cold butter. Just whisk it in a couple times while you add it. Works great for scones as well.
