I've worked many shows over the years, as well as climbed radio towers... BUT... BUT.... in the rain? I've never had to do that. I tip my hat to you and want to buy you a drink!

I honestly followed your page because of this young man giving instructions. This is such a killer job and you can definitely tell the young man across from him has never been up this high. I used to paint Navy Aircraft Carriers in a Boatswains Chair 60 ft up and it is not for the weak at heart.
Huge respect to both of you. Love what you do. I would have been PISSED if my trainee was failing to following instruction at the most critical point in the procedure you've been discussing and preparing for the last 15-20 minutes for! But, we all have obstacles we need to learn from..

I would really recomend a petzel harness, it has spots to hook the shark hooks on the chest and make it easier to have your hand free when climbing. otherwise great work! A little bit different from climbing in a wind turbine tower but the principle is the same !

Do americans not use lifters of self lifting stages? a lot of the videos ive watched is of the towers being assembed on the ground and being slung into place. do you raise the grid on rolling truss?
"The rope, that yellow thing" wow, seems like basic training should take place on the ground. Are you union ? We never work heights in the rain in Detroit [Carpenters]. We'll sit around for 4 hours, if it doesn't stop we call it a day. No wind over 20 mph either. I remember my 1st job working heights was a 4 story cooling tower, my knees were shaking uncontrollably like a little girl, I almost dragged up. Glad I didn't, got used to it quick and made a nice career out of it.
We do start training on the ground and with different shows comes different stage setups and not all towers have rope grabs on it so until they climb one for the first time, they won't understand what it is. we do show them on the ground before they go up but still is a new experience for them. As far as the rain, I can see the difference between wood work and steel and aluminum climbing, all in all, it is safe practice for us to climb in the rain. Lighting is the only deterrence for us usually.
@@worldwiderigging You guys rock, stay safe and never be complacent. You are right, can only explain so many things, some things are better hands on, so long as safety is not compromised.
I always thought it was weird seeing all our Safety videos only coming from American real life scenarios. Now I understand why, not to say its wrong, but in my country the employer would be fined making employees work on heights and worse on temporary structure set ups during the rain. Its not impossible but it surely is a national safety standard to stop work
Yea we would normally work in the rain with of course being extra cautious and careful. Its when it comes to lightning being in the area when we would stop all work and clear the area but we also have high end weather tracking systems that will monitor all lightning activity in the area.
They do but still for your first climb, you are going to have mixed emotions and your mind will be racing all over the place but we all anticipate that and know what we will be teaching as we get to the top.
Yeah and he climbed above the hook then clipped on with his 2 nd clip if he always clipped on level or above and slipped he wouldn’t fall far but the way he done it having the clip below him then climbing with no clip above if he slipped he will have a grater fall I work in climbing and that is not how you clip on always be under a clip or level then clip the next one on as far as you can reach take one off climb level clip the next one on never climb above the clip he is doubling his fall rate doing it that way we all make mistakes but he training the other guy if he was getting tested for climbing in the uk he would fail
@worldwiderigging We let the women tag along. You'll never see an all female rigging team. If you can't pull a 2ton dead hang you shouldn't be up on the steel in my opinion.
Lol no Connor is just a jokester and wasn't aware at the time that I was being serious. He has rigged in other industries before, just first time in concerts.
Wasn't sure if I was just telling him how it normally goes or if I was actually telling him right at that moment to look up. We all have our moments lol its a lot to take in.
I don't know if Connor is gonna make it 🤨. If I have to warn you three fucking times that you're about to be smacked upside the grape by a 600lb steel ball that's swinging on the end of a cable and it still takes like 45 seconds for you to look up and have it sink in, you might be too mentally slow for this job. At least for *my crew.
The experienced guy wasn't quite assertive enough with his directions if you ask me. He sounds scared and shouldn't be leading someone on a job like this.
Connor is very experienced in rigging as well, just in a different work environment. He just wasn't sure if I was just explaining or actually telling him at that moment to look up lol but all good on all fronts.
Hi! Experienced rigger from the video here, I was definitely not scared, I just knew how slow the ball was actually moving and knew it wasn't a need to freak him out from sounding super urgent. If the ball was swinging at the speed of light then yes my assertiveness would have been a whole lot different. But we got the job done, no harm no foul.
That trainee's heart doesn't seem in it. Complete lack of eagerness to learn and more than one occasion he seemed oblivious to what he should be concentrating on.

It varies but the pay is pretty good, most states start at about $25 an hr. We get a little more than that.

This job does pay well, depending on most places. Usually starting around 30/hr in some industries.
it is not possible to lift the 1st part each time and mount the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and so on underneath.
its absolutely possible. but one crane lift is faster than 10 crane lifts.
Less time efficient
