In 85 I used to mechanic on the Lombard rally ,love the manta 400,I bought a brand new manta gt/e coupe in 85 and loved it fast car for its day and fun to drive kickin the back end out on roundabouts this brings back memories of them times thanks
Please, can you tell me how was It feeling to be a mechanic of that generation?I even just could kill myself to being a man that lived and raced in that generation.
It was good that’s when rally cars were at their best,I remember fixing a wastegate on a cosworth 500 with a condom used it to repair the diaphragm in the turbo went through the whole rally like that group c was amazing the sound and the speed ,I bought a manta gte in 85 after watching them on the rally fast car back in the day thanks for the comment
What a great car! Always had a soft spot for the Opel Manta and what a great rally car the 400 was. Often showing some clean heels to much more powerful group B cars. Good looking and bravely driven by all the legendary drivers.
I bought a Manta GT/E coupe in the early 2000's for 150 quid. It was a year younger than me, a 1984 model and I completely restored it over about 6 months (pretty everything was broken or seized and it was rusted right out). I owned it for about 12 years, lost count of the amount of times I had to weld it mind you...but I did love my Manta. It's a lovely looking car, the coupe, can't get a bad angle on it IMO. All the trouble it might cause me sometimes and I think I'm getting a bit fed up with it, I would come out in the morning and see it and go "ahh ok baby...well you're probably worth it" 😄
I had some footage of a manta 400 on VHS with background music of (van halen) called "jump", flat out, I think it was the Manx, cant remember what year, could have been 1984?though I know it was " tarmac" I've got 100of hours of VHS group b stuff but I was gutted when my DAD recorded over it so he could record "DADS ARMY" that one with the two OAP's in it,anyone known were I can find it with that background music of van halen".I'm old school I'm not a computer expert but anyone know the name of a video that has my description above on?
@@rev5turbo thanks simon for correcting me I appreciate that because I’ve got some information I can use I can’t believe someone else would have recorded it couldn’t remember ( probably because I’m getting old !) cheers mate !
The Opel Manta 400, one of the best group B rally cars of the era. Unfortunately it was always shown dust by the Toyota Celica twin can Turbo on endurance events like Kenya's iconic Safari Rally. Rauno Aaltonen, Erwin Weber, et al tried their best in the Safari but the Celica twin cam Turbo was just too good for the conventional group B rally cars (Opel Manta 400, Nissan 240Rs and the Celica twin cam Turbo)
Not always... Opel manta was the last of the mohicans... The most badass rally car!! Race with fwd and turbo new style beast cars and put them dust...in Uk and Ireland manta win everything.. Remember rally of Ireland 1st manta, 2 manta, 3 manta!!
