What a fantastic buy, there can’t be many of these left in garages… and a coupe as well. Has it had much paint? Notice the red exclusive stickers are all missing….
I had a 1984 black manta GTE and I put a switch in like you’ve got to cut the coil power as an anti theft device back in the day . Great car great video.

Lovely car. My uncle has the cavalier coupe same shape 1977 in metallic blue. Owned since he was 18 . Yours is a good find. I'm surprised you didn't remove spark plugs and put some oil in the bores ,before you tried starting it as it hadn't been started in so long .. Hopefully, you haven't caused any damage, or it will burn oil like crazy. Good find tho front jacking points look solid also which was a major issue for rot on these. Thanks for the look around it.
Manta and Capri were my dream cars when I was a kid. However they made 1.2 Manta and 1.3 Capri too. What were they thinking? Manta 1.2 accelerated to 0-100 km/h in 19.5 seconds. LOL.
Hi, sorry if i'm being cheeky but will you be telling how much you got it for. That manta sure is one beautiful car and after washing it, well what a transformation, i'm gobsmacked it's stunning considering how long it has sat for 😵😲😲✔✔👍
Great find! Loved these cars. The saloon versions are much rarer that the estates due to the a factory burning down and they didn't bother retooling for the saloon car version and just produced the estates. These cars were so advanced or appeared to be back in the day and drove a few Manta GT's when new, loved them.
It’s had period 90s mods such as airbox delete and replaced mount to put a k&n cone filter on it. Leads. Speakers in the doors. Side indicators as everyone wanted clear. Alloys are classic 90s. Great find. Looking forward to seeing it.
🤦♂️… here’s a story . I worked for James Derby in wallasey in the 80’s. Had a huge scrap yard. I saw a white manta gte with a smashed nose cone in the yard. Paid 100 pounds for it and he cut the nose of another wreck so I could fix it. It was white, with a mustard coloured tartan inlay on the seats. But! I later learnt, after selling it, way to cheap, it was a special car. Because it had the inline 6🤦♂️. You know where this is going. Anyway, I understood later why the guy snapped my hand off😂😂😂🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️……
Had four Manta's in the past. Last one very similar to this one. I'd have my GSI back in a heartbeat. D475TVH where are you now. Recycled must likely 😢
Great find ! We recently bought a GTE Exclusive hatchback in the same colour, ours has 34,000 miles FSH one owner, not as tidy as yours, spent most it’s lifetime outside but solid everywhere except bonnet and around the sunroof is a bit rusty but we have sourced a bonnet , inner wings solid and everything works
I had an early 1.9s it was more rounded and less angular with twin solex carbs. I put 2 new inner wings on it. Great car but was written off when some kid drove through a red light and wrote it off along with a sirocco coming the other way. I paid £120 for it in 1981.
Seriously cool car. Thought it might have been sold new and first registered in Wigan - my parents bought a new Vauxhall Astra from A&B of Wigan this same year - it was registered E498 GFR. Plates and stickers suggest otherwise, though!
They are very cool looking cars. Last taxed and V5 issued 1995 so just shows they can still be out there even if there's been no activity for decades! Although those tyres look newer than 30 years so might have been driven without tax at some point!!
@@RetroRestorationGarage they have lasted well - no UV to degrade them I suppose, plus I'm sure tyres and other car parts were much better rubber 30+ years ago!
@@RetroRestorationGarage ah yes, definitely not worth taking a risk on those and some nice fresh rubber will improve the ride no doubt. Look forward to seeing some updates 👍
My mechanical skills are pretty much zero therefore I'm genuinely curious as to whether it's a good idea to immediately rev the engine up to about 4K, when it's the first time it's turned in over 30 years? Lovely car by the way. Always loved these as a kiddo and always preferred this shape to the coupe/hatch, which I think was "just" branded GT? Or is that a different car altogether?
My late father had a GTE hatchback, A903UFB, in gold which he bought new after seeing them in the Lombard RAC rally (much more stylish than the equivalent Capri, even the MK1 Manta was prettier)
I absolutely loved my Manta GTE, i wish i had kept it.....but ive still got my 1996 Calibra V6 which ive had since new.....this was the updated Manta. The plates on you're Manta cant be the original dealer plates.....not with Fiat on them.
I had a 1980 2.0S Manta as my first car in the late 90's. Dual 40mm Dellorto's, headers and a cam, plus a bit taken off the cylinder head. Had around 140hp. It went well back then.
Engine is having a rebuild bud which would be standard practice for an engine thats sat for 30 years. This was just for video purposes to see if it would indeed start and drive 🙂
