If I was a filmmaker, hired by the Stones to make the ultimate Rolling Stones doc, you'd be the first call I'd make. You've done it again sir! Happy Thanksgiving!
LOL, thank you!! I would hope maybe one day I am asked to assist to put something together. The reason being, to get access to even more info that we do NOT know of. Happy TDAY also! cheers
meh.. some interesting stuff brought up, but it's mostly stories that any longtime Stones fan already knows, he comes across a little too drooling fanboy to do a serious doc. The el mocambo stuff was ok, but the rest of love you live was their weakest live album up to that point, this was when they began to play everything like it was on 45rpm, too fast and sloppy, a trend that continued to this day. Their 73 era tour with Mick Taylor was by far the greatest the Stones ever played or sounded, it astounds me they never officially released any of those much bootleged live shows back in the day.
@@greatunz67 this doc is totally not your speed. It is not meant for you. I recommend not watching any of my videos. Not here to battle with you, but you seem to know plenty. My work efforts are for a Stones fan that appreciates the Stones throughout, not a part timer. When you post something positive or productive let me know!
I wouldn't, I'd get a British dude, or at least someone that can pronounce the names of the various towns our hero keeps getting busted in, sorry, but to a Brit, it's a glaring error. Still pretty good though. P
@@greatunz67 I'm fron Detroit (blow the reveille)! You're not alone in dissing 'Love You Live'. - The _'pacing'._ - The somewhat _'lazy'_ delivery by Jagger. Christgau: "....like he can't be bothered to touch the roof of his mouth with his tongue." (LoL~°) And, it isn't _'quite'_ as good as 'GYYY's'. (or, the 'Ladies & Gentlemen..' soundtrack) I've always believed The Stones are victims of their own catalog. I've always felt it was mis-guided to judge them that way (studio LPs, too). *In 1977:* What live album was better? When I played this in my backyard for my BBQ parties; It was a *BIG HIT!* (IMPO) El Macombo is worth the price of admission alone! Having seen the '75 tour; I thought the whole album was GREAT! (still do) As far as this video author's delivery; After 50 years of listening to aloof, _'disconnected'_ journalists ramble on; I find FlipSideCT's delivery refreshing. 'By-a-fan'/'For-the-fans' More _'conversational'._ e.g. He showed 8 'Keef-books' (inc. Woody's). I've read six. Some (FlipSideCT fans) read three. Or, even just one. You probably read all eight! But, the optics/combined with little gems like the 'fan-bus' tidbit are enjoyable. Have you seen his 'Let It Bleed' (1-2-3)? Or, 'Black 'n Blue' (1-2-3)? You've entered a very cool place. *Give it another chance.* You might like it! Peace. Stay Healthy! - Dave B.
@@FlipSideCT yes that was fantastic, the research you do for these is crazy. I read every book about the Stones ever written and I don't think you've lied to us once ,lol. Awesome
you are welcome ,and thank you for commenting. I was around this time and still did not know this detail. But we as Stones fans need to understand, as it was the detail that transitioned to Some Girls.
Thank you for sharing, so glad you enjoyed this. The real Stones fan knows how rockin this album is, and I can not even imagine anyone fan not liking it. check out my other docs.
That picture of Keith in the rowboat along with the voice-over "Keith traveling was a logistical nightmare" is hysterical. It gets me each time I watch this.
I've just found your Stones documentaries and I am in absolute heaven. 70s Stones is my religion so it makes sense. So many great photos and interviews. You've turned me onto new books and new concerts to watch! Thank you so much!
Love these docos. You do a great job. Been binging these for months. When I get to the end of the series, I start over from the beginning. You put a lot of time and effort into these things and it shows. Thank you!
very cool to hear that and thanks for sharing. That goes a long way for me to know there are some real Stones fans that really dig it! thank you! I learned plenty myself
@@FlipSideCT again , thank you bro. Those days i was trying to get that sound on my copy Tele for Mannish Boy etc. Just fantastic work and I’m not being a polite Canadian !
Hello Steve; Once again kudos for creating an above average documentary. One cannot appreciate the amount of time & effort taken to properly research, write, & piece together a visual period document focusing on Keith's career & that of the Rolling Stones. Taking the viewer thru Keith's arrest & the Stones performance at Toronto's El Mocambo club. Segueing into the Stones recording sessions, Keith's court appearance, the bail, & press coverage. Good job, informative & well explained in the context of the video. Looking forward to part 2. Take Care. Tina & Pat!~
thank you T&P......so well appreciated. You know it.....the last thing I want to do after spending my work day of deep detail problem solving is having to do more work later in the evening. This was a tough one, to layout, make sense and stay in control of the flow. thank you for noticing this. I never pursued this key time before because of the complexity. Now it all ties in. I really want folks to know how much these events led to the birth of Some Girls ...all my best!!
Fantastic Steve....what a pleasure to see and then watch this ultimate presentation. I had no clue, no idea about what went down! This was just another example of your brilliance. Kissing ass, yes I am. I just dig these so much and so glad to be able to get more Stones knowledge. Your timeline was great and coherent and as you said so much went down. Great photos and videos.....just all out cool, you really pulled it together!!!!! thank you!
thank you so much for getting it and supporting. So much info, and what leads to why Some Girls was so brilliant. Timeline was a super challenge. cheers
Damn, that was pure bliss watching this ! I don’t know what I can say. No way there could be a better version of it. I was in a dream state. Thanks for making this film. and part 2 as well. I hope youn get the credit artistically and financially that you richly deserve ! “Well done Sonny…” as Charlie may have said.
Happy Thanksgiving,Steve, once again your generosity knows no bounds. Looking forward to the next contribution. Thanks again, mate. As always, Peace, Rocky
Happy Tday Rocky...thank you! I never looked at this as generous, that is interesting. Just love the turn on to others.......but yea, a lot of personal time put into it. IT is more like I must make these now and finish what I started. cheers!!!
I won the CHUM FM contest and took my buddy to the Saturday show. We each wrote in and agreed to take each other.Paul had a beer with Maggie Trudeau and spent the evening lighting Bill Wyman's girlfriend Astrid's cigarettes. After the show, Ted Newman Jones (Keith's guitar tech) let me look at Keith's 5 string Zemaitis guitar. Ted let me stand with him in front of Keith for a song and when it finished, Keith took a large swig from the bottle of Rebel Yell on his amp. With a smile, he quipped, "Got through that one".

Hi Steve from Wales. I was 23 when this was happening. I was and still am a huge Stones fan. I remember some of it but you have filled in the gaps. Many thanks. Looking forward to part two.
Just wonderful!!! Great insights into a chaotic time in KEEF and the STONES lives. Thank you for your time and sharing your in-depth knowledge. 5 START STAR’s from me. Cheers Marty from Melbourne 🇦🇺
I stood in a long line on a cold and wet day in Toronto waiting to buy tickets for that benefit show. After about 6 hours we were next to get inside the doors to buy tickets. The door opened and we heard two words we didn’t want to hear. Sold Out. Great video Steve !
oh no!!!! that is tough to take......and probably not easy to get a scalp ticket. I saw them a few days later at MSG. thanks for sharing and letting me know!!
I thouroghly enjoy your work on TH-cam , the in depth album reviews are second to none . I was at the Oshawa show Apr 22 1979 , there were 2 shows on the 22nd , I went to the 8 pm show , I lived about a mile from the arena and still live in the area . They tore down the arena in 2005 . At 16 it was the first major rock show I had ever attended , your doc brings back great memories . Keep up the great work , I look forward to a Some Girls doc
Thank you for sharing and supporting, very well appreciated! That great to see the show then....I caught them (NEW BARBs) at MSG around then also. But yours had a lot of history to it! All this chaos does carry over to Some Girls for sure! cheers
What a sad existence Keith had during this time period. Thank you for fleshing it out. I didn't have a clue how extreme it was. He's lucky he's still alive! I hope Part 2 is more musically upbeat! IORAR!
Like I said Dave, this is a different doc, not as much album based. In fact I will be discussing Keith's first real solo project that was in fact melancholy in sound. Yes, a gloom period.....a rollercoaster of emotions for him. thanks for commenting!!
I haven't even finished the clip yet, and got to say it: your videos just keep getting better, and better, Steve. About as in depth, and especially knowledgeable! as can be.
thank you so much for the comments!! glad to hear that! A lot of work on this one for sure, and so glad I had great sources to work with. Now it gets even bigger with Some Girls. cheers
Steve, yeah, I'm pleased ... This is great, so lovingly done and put together. Thank you yet again! When the band was at Nellcote recording Exile, there's a story of Keith sitting on the floor as the rest of the band started playing Bitch. Keith got someone to hand him a guitar and joined in. I think it was Andy Johns who said something like "Right away, you knew why Keith Richards is so important to the Stones". When you hear Route 66 @ El Mocambo, you know what Andy heard that day. I too hope they will one day release the whole show. They probably never will, as we have 4 tracks already, but who knows? Again, outstanding job, thanks.
thank you for letting me know. thanks for sharing your story. Who knows who owns the rights to the 77' tapes now. IT would surely be die hards that would be first in line to buy this. cheers
The "El Mocambo" side is the only side of "Love It Live" that I ever listen to. Would love to hear the whole show. To my ears it’s the true essence of The Rolling Stones.
I have the single right here. w/ Brown Sugar .it's worthless ,especially w/ a crack across it, but I like owning it. and Andy Johns was dead on! this was the era when they really were the greatest R&R band in the World. Brown Sugar/Bitch. Jagger was a serious recording artist in a studio. not legendary live usually, but a small venue will bring out the best in a band.
Actually the full concert (Night Two only, as the first was too loud and ruined the taping) is available on bootleg. Those 4 tracks are the only ones sonically good enough to put out.
Great job man , I haven’t seen such detailed and glamourless way to present a band. You just say it like it is , and your casual ,laid back and humble way to present is class act. You also do something great , you get so deep into the nitty gritty that you make us appreciate things we didn’t maybe value before. I wish they were documentaties of this value about Springsteen and the Grateful Dead ( my favorite artists)
Cool David, thank you for those comments and observations. I do not have an ego and take it in as, my thought out strategy and approach when I started these was correct, and many did enjoy what I did. So I love it that it clicked with many. More for the fans to share and learn and to say " I did not know that". I wished someone would do this method for Springsteen / Dead / Who.
Another excellent documentary. Thank you. This weekend is an embarrassment of riches. Another flipside doc comes out along with the get back release. The details you bring out blow my mind. this must take some serious time to research. Thanks again!
Thank you PM4....you are welcome. Yes, agreed....no buying for me. Glad you appreciated this.....yes for sure, serious time to pull this out.....more so for coordinating the timeline. cheers
Excellent presentation thank you! Quite simply more professional rigour and the in-depth research we have come to expect from this channel. Well done Mick, I thoroughly enjoyed myself once more ta. Warm regards, Dave UK x
A nice comment to read, thank you and you are welcome! glad to deliver this. I really got so much out of making this one, as real time in 77' we were so removed!. cheers
My friend. You have created the best documentary ever about this period. Where is beggars, sticky and exile?? I'm about to watch the much anticipated part 2. By the way,Chris kimsey was the engineer who suggested looking in the can for tattoo. Clearmountain came later.
thanks KC......I am glad I delivered a piece that can bring us closer to what happened. As mentioned, the sources I used were my guidance. I may retreat to Beggars / Sticky one day, but Exile is so well documented, I think it would be just repetitive. Yes, they needed an album to tour, and Kemsey bought TYou out. thanks for sharing!! enjoy PT2
Thanks for all your good work! Reading Chet Flippo's book is essential, imo. Most of what I ever knew about the Toronto trial came from CREEM magazine and Hit Parader.
yes, he was a straight shooter, but got caught up with Jan W's bs. We all did not have much to go with at this time, which is why making this gave me a good insight. thank you!!
A big thumbs up FlipSide for these Stones docs especially this one, pure gold I say, brings me back to November '78 before CD'S came on the market London Capital Radio had an hour Keith interview to promote Barbara Charone' Keith book, anyway I got the said program taped on metal head cassette which I put safely on top of wardrobe however never got to hear it as my wife took it down n gave it to my new born son ( she only told me a week later, needless to say I'v never forgiven her) Thanks and keep em coming. Irish Don
Way to go Irish Don....appreciate you sharing your story and comments. So glad to hear them and see you are part of the Stones family and can enjoy what I presented....working on Some Girls, this is a fun one!!
So the bootlegs often referred to as Keith Richards Toronto Recordings….or variations of…. Are absolutely beautiful and a fav amongst true fans…. These recordings should definitely have an official release they are soo good. Anyone who enjoys Keith’s voice even a bit will love this period of his stuff. Almost all piano and sounding like Keith alone in a room singing very emotional and thoughtful. Please release these recordings of an historic period that was just about the end of the Stones.
thanks for sharing. Agreed. Soundboard quality is the way for sure. The boots are just so tinny sounding. Keith's vocals on recent Waiting for the Man is fabulous.
Glad to hear that Kimberly, very cool! I am a Keith guy....I used to be more on Mick, but his solo work thru me for a loop. thanks for the comments!! cheers
Finally got round to watching this on my flat screen TV. This documentary is fascinating to me. I felt as if I was reading a biography as I saw the story being told on the screen. You have put in a yeoman’s effort in accumulating this amount and degree of detail. I feel this is reaching a heightened degree of entertainment! Ditto this for Part 2 as well. Also just completed Part 1 of the making of Some Girls LP. I feel like I’m reliving memories of that time, since I saw the Stones perform on that tour in person. (I’ve actually seen them perform live seven times over a forty year period.). Kudos to you!
very cool to read, and you surely got it and a true fan! This is one of my favorites, as I never knew all the details and just heard all the rumors. So I learned plenty also. Some Girls also. Enjoy these ! I am working on my next project the STP 72' tour. Very deep in detail and will be in few parts. But note: I will be releasing Part 1 to the public and then Part 2 (3?) to Donators only at first. No idea when for public if I even do. thanks again!
@@FlipSideCT Cool. I live in the Greater Toronto Area so it's neat to hear about places I've been to and know about. My grade 10 math teacher saw Stevie Ray Vaughan at the El Mocambo in 83 and got one of his guitar picks. He brought it in one day and showed the class which was great. I love your Stones videos. They're always incredibly informative.
@@FlipSideCT I redid my first comment cause I figured you probably knew the El Mocambo is still open. I'm looking forward to your next Stones video. Do you have any plans to do another in depth look on any other bands? I've been really enjoying this Stones series and another series on another band would be awesome.
Thanks Steve for all your work again drawing all the material about the band during that time from all the sources available and compiling it into another delightful and concise summary for us . Being from the area too it is fun seeing many of the familiar landmarks. Eaton's went bankrupt years ago and back in the day if was the Harbour Castle Hilton actually now Westin Harbour Castle. Visited a friend living in an apartment there a few times (well after Keith lol) Beautiful hotel overlooking the TO islands, the Royal Canadian Yacht club and Lake Ontario
thanks for letting me know and sharing. I am glad I did some justice with this unfamiliar topic. It was nice to learn about the landmarks....just wish there was more footage/photos. Very surprised I could not find more. That Westin surely looks to be a cool place to get a great view, and maybe next time I am there. cheers
Great work again and such a good filler on the way to Some Girls as you intended. Your pronunciation of Aylesbury and Newport Pagnell near to where I live now are amusing too!
Thanks David......to my point, without this event, there is no Some Girls and poignant to their timeline. The pronunciation is 100% not a concern to me, but glad you got some humor. cheers
Steve, I'm stoked to say thanks again! You do a great job with your Stones documentaries, it's very much appreciated. Even though I'm a big Stones fan I'm discovering much more watching these videos. All the best to you!
cool Ralph, I am so glad to hit the right buttons on this for the Stones fans. thanks for sharing and letting me know. Love the "turn ons" and to share what I find with others. cheers
Steve, another insightful and highly enjoyable video. Your documentaries inspire a new and fascinating basis to revisit the material (the stuff that made the records and the incredible archive of stuff that didn't make the records) and are just as enjoyable upon multiple viewings. Much continued Gratitude from N.C.
glad to hear from you again.....and the great comments to inspire me to keep going. It helps to hear these when at times I do get exhausted at times. cheers to you in NC.
Very well done Steve . I usually get bored with this sort of thing BUT not at all here. You kept it real & Told it like it was! Great Job & also hope there is more in store for you with this . Maybe a movie??
Glad you enjoyed it....and thanks for sharing your comments and letting me know. I take a lot of pride on my work presentation and approach, so I am glad you picked up on it. hopefully you check out my others. cheers
Thanks, I was in the Navy at this time, doing things I wish I wasn't doing. All I heard about this was Keef got busted with an oz of heroin, later he was ordered to do a concert with the "New or Young Barbarians" such a long time ago. Granted the Beatles were great, but for me the Stones were the ones. Loved their raw, bluesy style, & when they wanted to rock, they could most definitely rock. Followed them "The Last Time" up till just a few years ago. (Yup I'm that old). Really enjoying this, you're filling in a lot of gaps. Of course I was still grieving Tommy Bolin's demise, in Dec 1976. The things I was doing back then, it's a miracle I'm here to comment.
sounds like you had plenty going on....thanks for sharing. I also had plenty of gaps about this time and knew others did also. Listening to them live you know they were meant to RnR and are drawn in to the rawness and dangerous edge they gave us. glad you commented. Hopefully you check out the other docs I have also!
You are doing some great work with a level head and eyes wide open. The UK produced some of the greatest bands in the blink of an eye in history that reverberates to this day. It is never lost on me and what a reminder. They were the gateway to my American culture born of pain and joy. I just finished part two of Get Back and then found your new gem. Thank you. I can’t imagine how much work and passion it takes to make these documentary’s, even with the convenience of these modern toys. A call and response across the ponds.
Thanks for sharing PW.....enjoyed it! Glad you found this, and jumped on some Stones stuff. I still need to give the Get Back a viewing. Passion and work, plenty all around. A lot of time to pull it out. Hopefully you watch my other docs. cheers
Thank you so much Adrian.....that means a lot to know fans are appreciating and in sync with me in what I put together. It is not about me at all, it is bringing us all together and sharing! cheers
i have too say just finished gigging tonight lots of great r n roll with my band sweaty and good got back found this ,,,,,i know all this story hey im 59 had charones book love u live etc etc youve broke it down really good and added extra importent details us stones fans love ,,,a really really big well done on this highly importent part of the stones story ,,,which as we know went on to create somegirls and the much underated emotional rescue albums maybe a peak for the band,,,,the outakes are great too,,,,,its people like you that give us this thanks mike in england ,,,,i look forward too part two man,,
thank you Mike. First of all, I am jealous that you are able to get sweaty and rock. I surely miss that and know that feeling! Thanks for sharing your comments and letting me know, well appreciated as I took / take a lot of pride in the work, but dig it more when I share it with other rockers like yourself. Exposing what really went on behind the scenes is what many do not know. Especially the how / why they come up with their next albums material. Yes, Emotional material is just a good as the others. thanks for all!!
was at the cnib concert 12th row center, waited at the mall 24 hours for tickets, my friend was mentioned in the newspaper article you showed, it was an expierence, in the morning the lineup witch was very orderly till about the time the doors were about to open, when people were pushed through the glass doors of the mall, was very happy to get my tickets, a friends girlfriend won tickets to the elmocambo, he told me about the show, said it was amazing
a great notch on the belt! historic all around. As you wait in line not knowing your fate, but when it works out in your favor, what a feeling. If not, your head is down. Either one leaves you with some story. thanks for sharing.
Dude!! I have been down with Covid for a week, and I have been BOMBING your videos, particularly the Stones content. Great, great stuff you have here. I have never seen such insight. Thank you for all of these. I finally had to comment. As a Stones fan, and as a CANADIAN, this made me angry and ashamed. I remember when this was going on when I was a kid. I was pretty young, but I was a music geek since I was still wet behind the ears, and always on the side of the outlaw. As it happens, I'm in the middle of a nasty divorce, and my regard for the Canadian legal system is at an all time low. Like a friend of mine said recently (a lawyer, actually): "Canada doesn't have a JUSTICE system; it has a LEGAL system"... Anyway, thanks again for the hours of entertainment.
Thanks for listening DE...glad to see the comments. Appreciated you telling me this....as I take pride in my work and delivery. Not meant for all (5%) can not handle it, so I say to them, go make your own and dont watch. Thanks for your support.
I'm from Detroit (blow the reveille)! Sorry I'm late. (caught in traffic.) *EXCELLENT VIDEO!* I'm so glad you _'double-reversed'_ & delayed a 'Some Girls' vid to tell this story! *El Maconbo '77!* Optics of the club! I never saw that before. I'm sure I could have found some if I tried. But, you did it FOR ME! That fan-bus tidbit! Little examples of why I find your videos so great! You gave us a real _'feel'_ for the struggles Keef was going thru. Thank you, sir! Peace. Stay Healthy! - Dave B.
nice Dave, glad you got the time and out of traffic. I was wondering if you were stuck at a light. Some poignant info to fill this timeline.....a few folks think the Concert for the Blind is soon to follow.....I tell them... 1979, I am just in 77. WIP Part 2.....then tackling Some Girls which will be so much material it is scary. cheers my friend.
Great job, I remember when it all went down, slept out trying to gets tickets for the Oshawa concert for the blind, no such luck, looking forward to part two. Thanks
Great job as always - while I knew vaguely about this period and events, you really crystalized and brought it into focus and what the energy must have been like.
Thanks Kris, glad you got something out of this. I sure did. A very cloudy period, and I was glad to piece it together from several trustworthy perspectives. This was supposed to be an new era, and Toronto was to be their new home for a some weeks. best to you!
appreciated, I really felt we fans were and are not getting insight to real info. What challenge to gather all this, but worth it when I see your comment, thanks
Yo Steve, Philly DC. I just got back home from Florida. My oldest son and I went to see the last Rolling Stones show from The no filter tour. It was so good, fantastic, words cannot describe! When I was leaving Florida, I settled back into my seat on Amtrak and turned my iPad on. Well, I got a really great surprise. Your latest masterpiece came on the screen. The - ‘ 77(part one). I was so happy to see this !!! This was such an interesting and just crazy time in the Rolling Stones history. You really covered part one well my friend. You touched on everything that a stones fan should know and could ask for! You know? On your last one, black and blue port three. One of your subscribers mentioned that the stones should probably be watching your documentaries and you should get some kind of recognition, like maybe Keith sign one of your guitars or even mick or Ronnie maybe sign a couple of your album covers for you. You know, For all the dedication, hard work, love and respect for the band. Hey, all of it! You really put it out there the way it’s supposed to be done! Well, I agree with that person. You really should be rewarded. Some how. Well, you keep it rockin’ Flipside. You’re the best!!! I can’t wait to see part two of this. All right then, cheers to you! And I’ll talk to you next time.
That a fantastic way to see the Stones, with your son. I wished I could afford it and take my daughter.....but she is also in CA. I did catch the Pittsburgh show on a FB feed, and it was a sure treat to see it live. Great to hear that iWhat a great and cool response for me to see. Thank you for all those comments! Hanging out with Keith who lives 2 towns away from me would be my wish of a pat on the back. But it is so gratifying to see the joy of Stones fans watching these and digging my projects. I always the one in the crowd to bring on the Stones. Thanks again for all.....listening to Lost & Found 2nd album of Tattoo You release, and enjoying it. all the best! cheers
This is an unexpected bonus, I was thinking it would be some time 'till the next FlipSideCT Stones documentary and after the wait, it would be (brilliant and well worth waiting for) a Some Girls album review. What was happening in the Stone's camp after Black and Blue? Steve's going to tell you and I for one can find no fault in this extra info between two classic records. I love your style, your manner and your obvious deep relationship with the Rolling Stones and good music in general and will look forward to part 2, and everything you post. Thanks again Steve.
thank you so much Trev, appreciate those kind words and also that you are a fan. That is what this is all about and to share info. We just need to be able to get closer to these guys. I would hope I can finish Part 2 for the holidays. Some Girls has a lot of detail so that will take some time. Thanks for all your support and being part of the family. cheers!!
"Booze and pills and powders. You could choose your medicine". Now if you read a lot of the Stoned supposed official lyrics online they say the second line is "It's another goodbye to another good friend". I say its wrong. What I think that Keith is saying is "It's another good buzz and another good friend". Hey there Steve. What can I say? You outdid yourself once again. Is it possible that your investigating, research and writing gets better and better with each new Doc? I truly could not picture Keith's addictions until I saw a bootleg video of Cocksucker Blues. It was real and in your face. The way that you did the timeline on this was superb. There was so many things that I never knew before. Only detailed so accurately by a real Stones fan. Like yourself. I am really looking forward to part two. You have truly become the go-to Stones Documentarian on You Tube. Turner best step aside. This here is memos from FlipSideCT. Way to go Steve~ Rob/Boston
LOL, always making me smile Rob! TY..... What I am seeing with Stones lyrics as I look at them closely, not all the lines seem to be about the Song Title's intentions. They mix it up and use those metaphors. Something they do not seem to do anymore. But.... "gonna walk" was about the arrest and bust, and "let me walk out of this case" trying to send a message, and used brilliantly. that is why I put those lyrics in there. "another good friend" is about Gram. I am still working on this info. Yea, CS Blues was raw and captured the junkie Keith. Keith did say, if I was so out of it as people thought how would I come up with a double album of material for an album like Exile. He even learned to ski at that time. His "junk" was so high grade. I would love to make a authorized doc, not for any fame or fortune but to get hold of archival work that no one gets to see. When I went to see Lou's archive in NYC library, it was so mind blowing and personal and filled with so much information most of the public does not know of or never heard. That is the taste I would like with the Stones. cheers hope you had a fun holiday. cheers steve
This is great Steve, I look forward to your videos very much. Such an interesting period in the Stones History.. i think you have bought the Pre- Black and Blue to Some girls period really alive, peak Stones in a lot of ways. Really enjoyed the Barbara Charone reference, it was her book on Keith that really made me pay much more attention the Stones and all the drama and personality behind that incredible music. .. already looking out for part 2 ! Let me say thanks for your hard work, it is much appreciated!
Smiles SJ.....thank you! yea, the hard work pays off when it does get noticed there are folks in the family that comment and let me know. I really wished the 90% of the others would give me a clue....not for an ego but for that they are digging it. Cool that you were on to BC's book. The other ones are great also. A period I was not clear on, and now have clarity thanks to all of them. PT2....out very very soon!! cheers
thank you Jay....I am looking forward to that Some Girls challenge, there is / was just so much that went down....I have no idea what I am in for, yet. cheers
lol....good point. it is so raw, loud and kick ass. My band would jam this all the time, using the same Stones style and energy, so I totally get what you mean. cool, thanks!
Stevie, so sorry pressed for time tonite ,as usual this stuff is heath food for the astute Stones student. Small gig tonite, but time to transfer these onto the big machine. PEOPLE :: watch, listen, learn, live it, enjoy !! Get back to ya Steve, Thanks great work , mate. Peace, Rocky
Hey Rocky, thanks for the smile. I feel that is a true comment for sure......help folks get on the right groove. I am hoping more views, not for any ego, but just so folks can pick up something. Hopefully you can share some footage of your jam....cheers!
Hey it’s Greg here again from Kyoto Japan merry Christmas 🎄 I just stumbled on this video and I remember you well. So delighted this could be from you ! Love the time Keith said yeah I’ll let you know. In response to hearing that bets on his death were being made and he was at the number 1 spot. Also love when he said hey we are just a band . We aren’t trying to take over a country or anything. But the hype around the band and the music was probably huge enough to cause a revolution or close to taking over a country for a while . Reference to the burning of Boston in 1972 at his and micks arrest before their live show. But of course that was also a lot to do with the period of time in the US at the time . I’d love to hear from you again ! Greg
Hi Greg, nice to hear from you. Happy Holidays. Glad you found it and keep it going! The Keith comment was showing how much BS they had to go thru and he had to tolerate. thanks for commenting.....check out Part 2 just published. my vids are not as active as they were in the past. cheers!!
Thanks so much. Thanks so much. Thanks so much! Just saw this. I was wondering what was coming next. Good choice. Some Girls will also be a good one if you get to it. I so look forward to your stuff. Thanks for the turn ons!
A pleasure my friend....just fell in my lap. Some Girls is a big challenge with so much drama happening.....that is going to be another challenge. thanks for all !!
I continue to enjoy your commentaries, and continue to thank you! I always hear a tidbit I didn't know, or considered differently and I'm fairly well versed. I knew Mick had written Miss You (largely), but always assumed it was Ian MacLagan who gave it that special electric piano sauce, but it makes much more sense that the keyboard origins were more likely Billy Preston...I can see it in a lineage from 100 Years Ago, Melody and Fool To Cry, among others. I've also read that the El Mocambo recordings were heavily overdubbed...except for Around And Around, perhaps. I wonder if your research yielded some information about that, but yes, let's get the tapes cleaned up and released!
Thank you very much for supporting and commenting. Mick in one interviewed talked about it and the 4/4 shuffle beat with Billy. Makes total sense.....then add Charlie to add the 4/4. I heard similar about LYL but, then again I heard not much as thought. So I did not expand much on that topic other then what I learned, but still researching and digging more on that. There are no books or interviews that I find reliable details on this, just in forums which I do not always go with. thanks for the geekiness!
I'm from Detroit (blow the reveille)! How 'bout a little perspective. guys? Live R&R albums in the '70s were HEAVILY treated. Some more/Some less. I don't know percentages here. But, I saw the tour (twice). The LIVE live sound was the best I'd ever heard up to that point. So, I think: *Less Than* (some? most?) others. Peace. Stay Healthy! - Dave B.
@@FlipSideCT I know you're aware of the treatments. Guess I just showed my hand a bit. I REALLY like that album! So, I get testy when this comes up; Knowing full well there's other live albums that are worse. It's a _'percentage'_ thing. Ciao, Amigo! - Dave B.
Great insight presented here during a tumultuous crisis for Keith and the Stones. ... It's amazing how they continued on as a group and still composed music at this point; as a team; fueled by drugs, sex and rock n Rolling on a high wire act....
thanks RP, glad to see your comments. Yes a huge spot in their timeline that at the time the conclusion was really not known, and easy for us now to look at and not realize the fear that was evident and taking place during that time. I will mention that more in the next part. They are like repellent, the rain and dirt just washes right off them as they cruise thru each crisis. thanks
I saw this video a bit ago, and a great story line...just I read somewhere about Keith and how he got into a Mesa Boogie amp, but never heard about how he got on Fenders, and also where is his old amp as I think his name was etched into it?? A thorn in my side as those things I love the story behind his days with a Boogie.
Going thru Keith's guitar history is a nice topic. Getting the resource of the exact collection thru time would be tough.....He used Fender very early on, not just in 72'. It was great how he bounced around, and did more as time went on.
Great job. A chapter in Cpt. Keith's life that defined his character for me. Great presentation. Fun to see the Harbor Castle b/c o' the vision I had in my mind from the books. #singmebackhome
@@FlipSideCT Very kind of you, Steve. It would indeed be nice if your efforts (however fun making them are) were reimbursed in current currency. I don't know anything about the technical aspect of turning a YT channel into a revenue model, but who knows, maybe you can get away with it? ... Anyway, enjoying your work I have a few more comments that I will send you in due course. cheers!
@@DirkRevised I am not 100% how to do that....as my Stones stuff I do use some footage/pics from other folks. Well even some of my other vids also. I do not think I can not ask for $ to show it or donations. However I may technically be able to set up a go fund me for my channel...I do not know for sure. But thank you for the thoughts that is very kind.
@@FlipSideCT Welcome and similar, one day I hope to find time & energy to learn more about those app settings. Certainly many will agree that your extensive efforts and pleasant way of presenting may be compensated. Until then, I hope you can enjoy a lot of expressions of sympathy. (who hoo ! )
Another stellar job! Excellent detail and interesting pictures. Speaking of which, the first shot of Eaton's (58:25) is actually from downtown Winnipeg (with the Xmas lights up). It's now the Canada Life Centre where the NHL Jets play. Great memories, both from the hometown picture and, more importantly, the Stones in '77.
thank you Dean....thanks for the support and follow up. So much for searching on EATONS TORONTO 1977. thanks for mentioning that , I can let that one slip as it was not a Stones pic.
@@FlipSideCT The Winnipeg pic is definitely not a 'deal breaker' and the subsequent shot is the Eaton's Centre in Toronto. The overall presentation was very engaging. The Margaret Trudeau material was especially interesting. This was a big scandal here in Canada but the details were always murky. She's since written several books about her challenges with mental health. Now her son is our Prime Minister. More important is the significance of Keith's Toronto bust. As you foreshadowed, had it not happened, we probably wouldn't have SOME GIRLS. I'm thinking we might not even have Keith... he was obviously edging towards an overdose. (I'm looking forward to your follow-up program on his rehab and that seminal album.) The El Mocambo material was very engaging. The Stones have been a stadium experience for so long, it's easy to forget that they started off as a club band playing r'n'b. This was again brought home after they released the solid BLUE AND LONESOME album. You're right: they should also be releasing the El Mocambo set(s) as an archival album. Thanks again, Steve. Great work!
@@deanjonasson6776 Thank you DJ.....I would not tangle with folks with mental health. However, I did hear she forced her labor to have kids on Christmas day. Keith's body was surely going to have to give up sooner or later.....but he did go back on the stuff. He did not stay clean after this. thanks for the support! cheers
Another great video Steve. I don’t know what you do for a living, but you could make a zillion doing something along these lines! I read Chet Flippo’s book several times back in the pre-internet days. I still have the original (magazine) Rolling Stone covering the trial in the attic somewhere. My life seemed so incredibly, incredibly, dull being in the orbit of the Stones. Looking forward to part 2. Thanks Steve…you rock.
thank you Ace!! appreciate all that!! I am in an opposite field and work in IT but enjoy and have experience with documentary making. But why I would love to do a doc at an authorized level would be, to get access to archival material not many have seen. cool you read Chet's book. He was a gem! We can not even come close to 1% of what their lives are like. BeBe Buell who was friendly with the Stones did say Aerosmith made them look like kindergarten. So I am interested in still reading her book. cheers!!

I'm fron Detroit (blow the reveille)!
You're not alone in dissing 'Love You Live'.
- The _'pacing'._
- The somewhat _'lazy'_ delivery by Jagger.
Christgau: "....like he can't be bothered to touch the roof of his mouth with his tongue." (LoL~°)
And, it isn't _'quite'_ as good as 'GYYY's'.
(or, the 'Ladies & Gentlemen..' soundtrack)
I've always believed The Stones are victims of their own catalog.
I've always felt it was mis-guided to judge them that way (studio LPs, too).
*In 1977:*
What live album was better?
When I played this in my backyard for my BBQ parties; It was a *BIG HIT!*
(IMPO) El Macombo is worth the price of admission alone!
Having seen the '75 tour; I thought the whole album was GREAT! (still do)
As far as this video author's delivery;
After 50 years of listening to aloof, _'disconnected'_ journalists ramble on;
I find FlipSideCT's delivery refreshing.
'By-a-fan'/'For-the-fans' More _'conversational'._
*Give it another chance.*
You might like it!

@@jmad627 the quality and sound and overdubs really helped these out.

Your the best on the Rolling Stones and this really shows being a wild rocker ain’t all it’s cracked up to be!
TY!! lol, most of us would not sell our soul for this...
Hi Steve, Just wanted to tell you that you made my Sunday! What a great hour I just had thanks to you! I can't wait to watch Part 2...
So glad! thanks for sharing PR........and you got Part 2 now. enjoy, and appreciate you letting me know!!
Another gem. Thank you so much for the best Stones docs I have seen!
nice Jimmy, that is cool to hear. I would think many do not know all the details on this time. cheers
Thank you. This is excellent. Really well done. Great commentary. A real insight.
You're very welcome MT, thanks for letting me know and commenting. It goes a long way for me.. check out the other docs I have. steve
Just sitting down to eat Thanksgiving leftovers for breakfast and look!! Christmas came early!! THANKYOU sooo so much!!
Hope you enjoyed the food and all the good times, then enjoyed the doc RE, thank you!!!
Hopefully you watch my other docs. cheers
Awsome man! What a gift you have given us stones fans. Blessings to you and your family.
Thank you so much Adrian.....that means a lot to know fans are appreciating and in sync with me in what I put together. It is not about me at all, it is bringing us all together and sharing! cheers
Another GREAT DOC! Thank You,again!
a pleasure Jerry, thanks for sharing that!
i have too say just finished gigging tonight lots of great r n roll with my band sweaty and good got back found this ,,,,,i know all this story hey im 59 had charones book love u live etc etc youve broke it down really good and added extra importent details us stones fans love ,,,a really really big well done on this highly importent part of the stones story ,,,which as we know went on to create somegirls and the much underated emotional rescue albums maybe a peak for the band,,,,the outakes are great too,,,,,its people like you that give us this thanks mike in england ,,,,i look forward too part two man,,
thank you Mike.
Tremendous Steve, you give all us Stones "junkies" a new high serving up these great stories.
Glad you enjoyed it, a perfect comment and my intentions. We all need want to be a bit closer to them as we are all family on this. cheers
Thanks Another great job. Your enthusiasm shines throughout
a pleasure thank you. Glad you can appreciate the Stones and what was presented.
was at the cnib concert 12th row center, waited at the mall 24 hours for tickets, my friend was mentioned in the newspaper article you showed, it was an expierence, in the morning the lineup witch was very orderly till about the time the doors were about to open, when people were pushed through the glass doors of the mall, was very happy to get my tickets, a friends girlfriend won tickets to the elmocambo, he told me about the show, said it was amazing
a great notch on the belt! historic all around. As you wait in line not knowing your fate, but when it works out in your favor, what a feeling. If not, your head is down. Either one leaves you with some story. thanks for sharing.
Thanks Steve for the great video! Love your documentaries!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you for letting me know. glad we clicked here!
Absolutely brilliant! Thank you for doing this!
thank you Shawn for commenting and appreciating my efforts here. ! PT2 out soon
Anyway, thanks again for the hours of entertainment.
just saw this now....thanks Don for your comments and sharing. glad you enjoying these. good luck!
Well done again, sir. Your story telling style is so engaging, the hour seemed to fly by.
(caught in traffic.)
*EXCELLENT VIDEO!*
I'm so glad you _'double-reversed'_ & delayed a 'Some Girls' vid to tell this story!
*El Maconbo '77!*
Optics of the club!
Thanks
thank you for commenting and sharing. I can imagine the many folks looking to get in. I did catch the MSG show around the same time.
Another fantastic video. Thanks for the hard work put into these. So fascinating and so much new info I’ve never heard before. Look forward to part 2
Thanks Stephen.....appreciate that ...Glad you were able to get turned on to it!
Lolol, when he said that Keith’s hearing wasn’t until March 2nd.
I thought he didn’t have his ears on until March. Lolol. Cheers
As a Torontonian fan this doc is just incredible..
Thanks Paul. was hoping I could pull this one off with little knowledge. cheers
@@FlipSideCT You did indeed and the research is incredible , well done SIR!
Great channel and fantastically laid out stories, keep it up we stones fans love it!
appreciated, I really felt we fans were and are not getting insight to real info. What challenge to gather all this, but worth it when I see your comment, thanks
Great to see some new material Steve! I get excited to see new stuff from you because it’s always incredible! Keep it coming!
a real pleasure Matthew, and great to see Stones fans enjoy it! I get excited working on it and delivering it. thanks!!
Thanks again for all.....listening to Lost & Found 2nd album of Tattoo You release, and enjoying it. all the best! cheers
Great job Steve, keep it coming!!
Love all your documentaries!
Thank you JM....glad to see the comments and look forward to do the work on delivering to the faithful!! cheers
Found Melody Live At The Macombo. Supposedly they never played this one live. What an incredible cut!
oh, it is fantastic to hear. EL MO release is shattering! If they played it, it may be for a warm up.

Way to go Steve~
Rob/Boston
PT2....out very very soon!! cheers
This is so good! AND we might get a Some Girls Documentary??! As always... I learned so much I didn't know. Thank You again! J
thank you Jay....I am looking forward to that Some Girls challenge, there is / was just so much that went down....I have no idea what I am in for, yet. cheers

I LOVE YOUR ROLLING STONES DOCS! THANK YOU STEVE! HAPPY HOLIDAYS! 🎅
a pleasure to hear this DM, thank you for your comments!! so glad!! happy holidays to you!! cheers
when they covered Berry's 'Around and Around' that nite, they had the energy of a punk band. never get tired of it.
lol....good point. it is so raw, loud and kick ass. My band would jam this all the time, using the same Stones style and energy, so I totally get what you mean. cool, thanks!
@@FlipSideCTthank YOU. rock on.
Hey it’s Greg here again from Kyoto Japan
merry Christmas 🎄 I just stumbled on this video and I remember you well.
The Keith comment was showing how much BS they had to go thru and he had to tolerate.
thanks for commenting.....check out Part 2 just published. my vids are not as active as they were in the past.
cheers!!
Hey Steve , Thanks Again My Friend !! Happy Thanksgiving Weekend !! Jimmy from Long Island ...
a pleasure Jimmy.....best to you also! thanks for commenting!! cheers
- Dave B.
@@jellobiafra2810 of course treated, not blind to that. Song Remains the Same soundtrack totally redone. I take what I can get.!
@@FlipSideCT I know you're aware of the treatments.
Guess I just showed my hand a bit.
I REALLY like that album!
So, I get testy when this comes up;
Knowing full well there's other live albums
that are worse.
They are like repellent, the rain and dirt just washes right off them as they cruise thru each crisis. thanks
@@FlipSideCTLooking forward to part 2.... great substance !!
These are Sooo Good! Thanks Man! Stay Cool!
Glad you like them Jeff, thanks for the support. I am very proud of this one, as I learned so much as I lived thru this time and did not know.
Great job. A chapter in Cpt. Keith's life that defined his character for me. Great presentation. Fun to see the Harbor Castle b/c o' the vision I had in my mind from the books. #singmebackhome
thank you Erik. This carried for 2 years, real important. glad you enjoyed!
03:43 ‘… There you go.’. Yeah. I’m in awe by that intro, Steve. The work you put into your projects, if no labour of love, what is?!
nice thank you....yes, it is fun to make these.....would love to get paid...but, sharing it with friends is just as rewarding! thanks!!
(who hoo ! )
@@DirkRevised TY...that would be nice!
(I'm looking forward to your follow-up program on his rehab and that seminal album.)
The El Mocambo material was very engaging.
So I am interested in still reading her book. cheers!!
@@FlipSideCT BeBe Buell was ‘friendly’ with the Stones/Aerosmith. Well, this is a family suitable forum after all ;-)
Goats Head Soup is a concept album, you have to listen to it in one sitting. It's my favorite Stones album. It's my drug of choice.
please let me know your thoughts of it in totality. what is the whole concept?
Damn, this is great Steve, thanks for all your hard work - impressive as always, cheers brother. 💀🔥💋
