Hi Eve, I had made a bow tie quilt way back when….decades ago for myself. It was a lap size and hand quilted. Soon after my father required serious surgery and mom had already passed on. I brought my bow tie quilt which I had used quite a few shirts from my husband and our four boys. This was at least 30 years ago. When Dad passed at least a decade later, I gifted that quilt to our youngest niece. Karri was the one having the most difficult time and she was the youngest of the 8 grandchildren. I am starting one for my best friend, my husband in a soft solid vintage green as he loves that specific color. Then already have a fat quarter bundle of Tim Holtz fabrics. I had purchased 2 years ago as reminded me so much of my father. Thus, I’m making a second bow tie quilt using them to gift to my brother. He is the younger and have always been close as just the two of us. But we made up big time! We each have 4 children. Enjoy your journey and the memories. Happy quilting from Maine.
I’m doing my bow tie quilts in my collection of black and white fabrics I’ve collected over the years. I love your colors - your quilt will be beautiful!!! Thank you Kimberly and staff for all you do!!!
Thank you Kimberly and FQS team for all you do for the quilting community, I just wish I’ve earned few years earlier, I have been sewing since Covid, but I have half of a room full of fabrics for projects I already forgot what they are. 🤦🏽♀️ My favorite designers color ways are Cori Yoder and Joana Figueroa, I like their fabric so much that even if I have no projects in mind, I’ll buy their fabrics.
I am going to make this bow tie quilt as a baby gift! 🎁 It will be perfect for boy or girl. I admire how much time and effort you put into everything you do.
Beautiful I love the scrappy version you are making. I am using up older Fig Tree fabrics, All Hallow's Eve and Pumpkins & Blossoms. 🧡💚 Love seeing your new Juki at work in this video. Thank for all you do Kimberly and your great team at FQS.
After a hiatus from quilting I have returned to it to find fabric tones have changed so much. I have begun collecting new fabrics but will be making this bowtie with a collection of fabric from 20 years ago...warm greens, reds, blues.
Holy cow! This girl is cutting through 10 layers at once! That's some muscle right there. Love the idea to use Acorn Glue to hold the little squares in place. With pieces so tiny, if you pin, the pin can shift it just a bit. Thank you!
Kimberly it is mesmerizing to watch you cut and sew! I Think I will make the bow tie quilt with scraps of dwell and shoreline drive as I unfortunately do not have enough fig tree material to make this quilt. Then again Corey Yoders peachy keen would look great. However… it also might look neat to make a black, white and red quilt. Too many choices. Thanks for all you do at Fat Quarter Shop.
There are many fabulousl ideas here. Really awesome of you to share. Might I add, in my opinion, it's totally Fig-Alicious of you to share. I know if really appreciate such a gift. No doubt whomever wins is going to have a fabulous time playing and creating with these fabric treats.
I plan to use left over fabrics from past Blocks of the Month to make my Bow Tie quilt. Years ago I made one and gave it to my daughter. I’d love to make one for me out of the more current fabrics! Love watching your videos! You do such a great job! Kudos to all at FQS for everything you do!!
I bought a stack of vintage and feedsack quilt blocks from an antique store, and one has a bowtie block in the center! They are all different colors, and I was thinking of deconstructing the other blocks and making the center blocks all bowties. This video is very helpful to see how Kimberly focuses in one sewing session! Thanks for a giveaway!
Years ago I made a bowtie quilt and did not do a good job. I would like to do another one using all of your tips and tricks. My favorite fabric is whatever I am sewing on. I love Lori Holt, Corey Yoder, Laundry Basket just to name a few. Thank you for making the videos and sharing your tips with us.
I need to watch this again. I tend to cut a few at a time because I'm so eager to see how the blocks will turn out. Thanks for sharing listener quilts from those participating in the sew-alongs. I want to try the bow tie blocks in Christmas fabrics to whittle down that part of my stash.
I love any quilt. The log cabin would be one of my top favorites . I love bright colors. Tula Pink would be one of my favorite for the colors, but any and all fabric I love.
You get a much cleaner/perfect block when you cut a bit larger and then trim, been doing that for years. Some years ago Laura Knowns made a bow tie quilt in her book, it was made using all bright pure colors and the quilts is still one of my favorites, it is beautiful.
You are so efficient with your cutting process! Thank you for sharing your talents. My quilting has improved so much since I began watching your channel and using your tips and tricks.
Im loving your new sewing machine, you can cut & sew fast. I’ve learned so much from you I’ve made five quilts, well almost five 3 of them are at the spa right now, I’m giving them to my sister, daughter and my daughter in love after those are done I will have finished five. Im thinking of using Bonnie & Camille fabric. Thank you for all the sewing fun. Happy quilting!
Kimberly first I want to say Thank You ❤ for all your videos you done on quilting. I'm always check them out😊. This one was just as much fun to watch! I rarely sign up for things to win but thought why not? Looking forward to the finished quilt! From Southwest Kansas! Enjoy your summer!🐝🌻🐝🌻
I am making my bowtie quilt as a remembrance of my grandmother. She taught me how to quilt and the bowtie block was one she made often. Hers were always truly scrappy. I plan to make mine from my scraps as far as I can. When I have all of those possible made, I will look at my stash and see what goes well with the blocks I have made. I may have more than one quilt just from my scraps.
Kimberly you make everything seem so easy. I have some Lori Holt fabric that I want to use to make a bowtie quilt for my grandson with some additional star wars blocks. Thank you so much for taking your time to give us such inspiring tutorials.
Hi Kimberly! I so enjoy watching you. Your style of fearless cutting and sewing mirrors my style. I had not planned to make this particular quilt, but am now reconsidering this. I will be using Delivered with Love and will make a baby quilt, as the bow ties resemble baby rattles. Thanks for being informative, entertaining and fun!
I love watching you work in your own studio. Your work is inspiring! I love scrappy and so my fabric would be using a little bit of everyone in my quilt! What better way to enjoy a quilt than to have a little Lori H or a little Lisa B, etc.. thru out my quilt. 🤗🤗🥰🥰
The fabrics are so beautiful and work perfectly for the bowtie. Thanks for showing us how you can speed-sew and trim the blocks for accuracy. YOU ROCK Kimberley!
Love to watch you cut! It takes me forever. I have started cutting bigger since watching your videos. Thank you. My quilt blocks have gotten so much better since your suggestions to starch and cut bigger when possible.
This quilt pattern is great because each block is made with just a few pieces. I love the colors in this line and I also think it would be a good pattern for showing off larger scales like Kaffe or Tula. Looking forward to seeing your progress on this one.
Oooh, I love your idea of using Kaffe fabric on this. I have a stash of Kaffe fabrics I have been trying to decide how to use. Thanks for the suggestion!
Thank you Kimberly! I love that you showed us how you cut all your fabric & how you set up to chain piece then how to cut the blocks down. I have a variety of Lori Holt fabric that I want to use for the Bow Tie quilt! ❤❤
Wow It is so amazing to see how Kimberly has everything so organized and her process of piecing. I love her color choices. She makes the piecing look so easy!! I can see a Vintage Bowtie Quilt in my future. I am a beginner quilter and still in the learning process. But the only way to get better is to make more so I am ready for the challenge!!
The BowTie block is such a vintage block that is still wonderful in the current fabrics. I have a collection of blue fabrics that I think would be cute in a crib sized for a baby boy quilt. I enjoy watching you sew Kimberly.
Kimberly you are an icon. Love watching you cut and sew your quilts. Love hearing about the kids and Piggy, even Kevin stories crack me up. I talk about how Kimberly does this or that and my quilting friend asked if I know you! I guess in my mind we are best friends. Watch out Lori Holt!
I think I’m going to use this pattern to use up TONS of scraps. I probably could easily make several king size. It would be a great project to have on the side for short bursts of time. Thanks for all you do.
Amazing production line piecing! Thank you for sharing your tips and tricks to make limited time as productive as possible. Can’t wait to see the finished quilt.
Thank you -- again -- Kimberly! My husband is soon to retire. As a surprise to him, I'm making my bowtie quilt out of his MANY ties!! SO FUN! PS My favorite part of your videos is watching how you cut your fabric (which, you've said is your favorite part of piecing ;)
I have so many large cotton scraps left over from making clothes for my family that I would use those for this quilt. I do love scrappy quilts and in this case a memory quilt. I really enjoy your videos and live streams!
Can’t imagine doing that many blocks in 4 hrs! Definitely going to order some of that glue. Love your colors! Inspires me to try something different than my usual.
I am making mine out of Jelly and Jam and Linen Cupboard. I plan on making every quilt in the book out of those fabrics. I love all of them. I really like the idea of trimming down.
I am going to use an older fig tree line for this quilt. When you first introduced this project, I thought OH I have some fig tree I haven’t used! Can’t wait!
Why haven’t I ever made a Bow tie quilt? What an easy block. Maybe this should be my next project! Sorting the same colors for cutting, Marking all the centers at once then chain piecing sure speeds up the process. Thanks for your inspiration.
I think I am going to make mine scrappy and use fabrics from the quilts I’ve made. I have given all of my quilts away as gifts, so it will be nice to have a reminder of those.
I love that huge pink cutting mat. I'm a beginner quilter and haven't started the bowtie quilt, but I may make a few blocks to see how I do. My sisters have been quilting for years, and they are teaching me great tips and tricks. I love getting the sew sampler box.
Love watching you cut and sew this bowtie block! You are so inspirational and I have learned so much -- my blocks are much flatter and more precise by using your triangles on a roll and starch! Thanks for all you do to keep us motivated!
Wow Kimberly, you are so proficient in your sewing! Thank you for always sharing your tips and helps with us! I always love the bright colors like Cory Yoder or Camille, and I love the fabrics you are using too!

Love this bowtie quilt block. I think it would look great any colorway. I'm going to look for some red fabrics and make a red and white one. Keep showing us these blocks and all the instructions for them. Thank you for all your help.
Hi Kimberly! First off, to be able to have that great space to work in! Next, thanks for showing ways to mass produce. Lastly, can I have the big scraps you threw in the thimble cup?? 🤣🤣 Great for crumb blocks! Forgot to mention that the fabric is gorgeous! I just realized we were supposed to comment on what fabric we might use. Someone mentioned polka dots. I have a large FQ bundle of polka dots-those would be fun with a solid for the bow tie part. Some are colored with white dots & some white with colored dots.
I have watched this video. I would love your leftover scraps giveaway. I love making smaller quilts from leftover fabrics, they make nice gifts for various occasions. Occasionally, when I have enough left overs I also make cat bed quilts to donate to the cat rescue organization where I adopted my lovely cat. The cat beds get to go home with each cat that gets adopted.
Fig Tree was my very first quilt I made using a Layer Cake. It was a quilt I made my daughter for college. The quilt got ruined and she has been so sad ever since. I love Fig Tree everything. I really need to remake a Fig Tree quilt for my daughter since she loved the colors. BTW; love your video's. i learn something every time.16:1316:13
