- Hello everyone! It has been a long time since I last posted a video, and I'm very happy to be uploading videos once more!
Here is "Canço del Lladre" by Miguel Llobet. It comes from his "Canciones populares Catalanas", which is a collection of Catalonian folksong arrangements.
This piece is a little tune that I really enjoy playing, and I hope you like it too!

Beautiful interpretation. The phrasing and hanging notes are spot on. To me the mark of a piece like this is breathing with it in perfect harmony or visualising a ballet dancer feeling every note in graceful movement.

I do agree: extraordinary performance! Just a little remark: the title appearing in the video is wrongly translated. It is not "The song of the thiefsª but "The song of the thief". The lyrics of the original folk song is the sad farewell that a thief awaiting his execution adresses to his lover. He reminds her his youth, how he later began to misbehave and how he was finally captured and condemned to death.
Thanks for your explanation. I'm just starting to study this piece, and understanding the nuances and story of the music is so important. I will definitely check out the original song.
Thank you for explaining the piece…I’ve loved playing this for a very long time but was confused by the contradiction of the title against the beautiful melody.
@@ryangordon2407 Thank you for your words. I'm glad to have been helpful. This is a well known popular Catalan song, probably dated as old as the eighteenth century. As usual in folk songs, it is composed of stanzas (10 of four verses each in this case) plus a ritornello (two verses in this case) which are all sung with the same melody. Llobet did a wonderful job transcribing the song for guitar.

Beautifully played, often players rush the pinch harmonics and their effect is wasted, not so here. You have perfect timing and feel for the piece. Bravo.

No "pinch" harmonics are called for in this arrangement, only natural harmonics.

I like your interpretation very much, more than the others in fact. I think one should play this song easy, delicate, with the right emphasis on the right moment. I think you manage to let the thief sneak through the night. Is that not where the song is about?

How do you play those pizzicato notes so well?
The correct term for what I think you are referring to is harmonics rather than pizzacato, which normally is associated with the plucking of strings with the finger on a bowed instrument such as a cello or violin. Harmonics on the other hand are played by lightly placing a finger on a string above the fretboard at the moment the string is plucked.
