    Well done. So long ago, this was one of the first rope halters that my father showed me to make. I am reminded that I need to pass this on to my grandsons.

    I was laughing so much at what big ears you have, I couldn't see the screen. The halter sounds very useful, but the belly laugh I got from your cute horse was priceless. Thanks for sharing.

    Perfect idea! Ive used this since the time I found myself out back of farm with a short piece rope and an 18 mth old P/B Arab that wanted to go in opposite direction. Worked a charm! Kept it stuffed in crook of tree after that, for convenience.

    i'm at a boarding school and i dont like using halters with buckles, so i usually use rope halters, (store bought), after seeing this video, i'm definitely going to start using this technique because it really does get the job done, especially if its windy or raining and you need to get your horse in/out of the pasture asap :)

    My good friend who I would argue is the last real cowboy alive taught me how to make one of those many years ago. He called it a 'war bridle'. Said you can't tie a horse with it but you can let him pull on it a couple of times and 'it will threaten to squeeze his eyeballs out through his nostrils'. A dumb horse will pull more than once. When used correctly, this can be used as a training aid for horses that pull or who have no respect for the lead. One point to note is that your first little loop should be a bowline knot so that it's non-tightening. Thanks for showing this.

      Ellie--------------Hold you horses! This setup is for experienced horses. Not for horses that spook, do not know how to tie, etc.

    • @magic-catt98
      @magic-catt98 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Easy there, Ellie! This quickie-halter is NOT to replace a regular halter. It's great to use on a mellow horse if you're walking him from pasture to barn or vice-versa, or in other similar short transfer situations. It should NEVER be used to tie up your horse to a ring, fence etc for ANY amount of time, no matter how short that time is. It should also NEVER be used to lead a high-strung horse at all. If it's used in these situations, the horse will end up hurt - and possibly the human too. If you can lead your horse with your arm or a rope over his neck, THEN you can use this to lead your horse. This simply offers a little more guidance to your horse than an arm or rope over his neck.
      The gentleman in the video DID say this as well, but after I saw your comment, I figured you most certainly wouldn't be the only one with that thought. I wanted to clarify a bit on what uses this type of halter has and to reiterate that it is not to replace an actual halter. I want you to understand that I am NOT trying to single you out and hate on you. I just want to try to keep horses (and humans) out of what could be a bad, and totally preventable situation.
      Enjoy your horse, and have a great day darlin'😉!

    how much does a farrier cost??

  • @scotty812green
    @scotty812green  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    No, this halter would not be good for riding. It slips off the nose very easily. That makes it nice when you want to take it off the horse, but it wouldn't be good if you were riding and it slipped off the horse's nose. However you could make the rope into what is called a 'second form war bridle.' Do an image search on google and you will see it. I might would ride with that - as long as it was a well trained horse.

    • @gerrycoleman7290
      @gerrycoleman7290 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you pull the loop through the first loop, give it a twist or two and it will stay on the nose better.

    Hymn horse needs to gain some weight:( can u do a video on how to get some weight on a horse?

    • @scotty812green
      @scotty812green  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Clara,
      Thanks for subscribing to my channel.But sorry to say that I doubt I will be doing a video on that anytime soon. Although I have had one of my shoeing customers tell me they had used a product called 'Brilliant' that really helped their horse gain weight. I don't know where they got it but you should be able to find it online.
      I just started a blog on my website that you might want to check out, go to problemfreeshoeing.com and mouse over the more tap and you will see a place that says blog. I will be writing a lot of articles, especially on hooves that you might find interesting.
      Good luck with your horse and let me know how it goes!
      Thanks for you inquiry,
      Scotty Cowan
