Lol it's kinda funny seing me saying "i think AJFA is their best album". Now i have no clue that this is (at least for me)the best Metallica album, could be perfect if they weren't idiots for taking jason's bass off the album
I think that the reason that wasn't possible in the later albums is that some of the earlier albums sound was "built" by Fleming Rasmussen and the approach he uses, not to mention different kit overall. Bob Rock, apart from being very yellow haired and being the whole reason that we now have to explain how to use EQ for an 80's thrash sound (I may be a teeny bit biased against him, but I'm sure nobody notices), he moved the band into an entirely different sound envelope when he recorded "Metallica" with them. An example of the different kit is that on earlier albums we started off with Gibson guitars and Marshall amps. These evolved into ESP guitars for Jamea and Jackson for Kirk. Amplifier wise, they moved onto the Mesa Mk2c. This amp is an absolute dream for thrash, very sought after nowadays and just recently I got an "amp sim" version to use as a real one costs more than a kidney on the Black market. We're now at the AJFA period with the Mk2c. Then, as time moves on, when Metallica chose to use Bob Co... Rock (no bias, honest 🤞) he changes them onto Mesa Boogie Rectifier amps, totally changed how they EQ'd their amps going against the established method that pretty much every thrash guitarist had been using and later James would change his pickups from the time-tested and thrash-certified EMG 81-85 combo to a more mid range focused rock-y sounding pickup. Obviously, we have the same sorts of things going on with Lars's drums to some degree but I don't know exactly what went on there, though I hazard a guess that Lars had a very vocal controlling hand in it. Last thing I'd add on this, I'm a big fan of Jason Newstead and I thought he really was a good bassist for Metallica but I don't know if any producer he worked with really captured "his" tone. There's been some sort of re-released AJFA tracks where they haven't been Lars'd and you can hear Jason, and to me, that sounds like the best fitting sound and playing he ever did prior to playing solo.
Thank you for your works, personally, the “And justice for all” album is my favourite one, and you are making true a dream of listening some Metallica’s works as if they were in another era.

Hey man, good job as always. I really enjoyed The Eye of Beholder vibes especially in the solo. You were able to show people a little of what they missed from this forgotten song over time... AJFA forever !!!
I always thought this is the one Metallica song that sounds like Dirt-era Alice in Chains shouldve covered. The chord progression sounds more grunge than thrash, and Layne's ridiculously raw vocals wouldve been insane... But i digress. Awesome song
AiC could cover any metallica song they wanted and make it sound good. But from what I've seen of metallica trying to cover AiC it's not good. James can't compete with Layne

it took me a while to get used to not having that massive drop crunch grind off after the verses, but man , thats the Justice style and tone right there.
This is awesome. I always wished that this song had a little 'something extra' in the composition, finally I get to see what that might have been like.

my favourite master of puppets song on my favourite Metallica album, this is the thing that should have been, the ajfa tone just makes this song heavier.

Yes, that will be the ultimate version of TTTSNB

Pretty much same voice or better during 89, that just happened to be filmed.
