    THANK YOU!!! for reacting to my request. It was the reaction I was hoping for. You actually did pretty well: 2 other reactors actually shed tears. This incredible band has 30 years of material, and I plan on keeping you busy. There are also a couple other bands I would like to turn you on to. Thanks again, love your reactions.

    You already had me with Nightwish, Iron Maiden and Rush (and Yes too).... but now Dream Theater... wow!!! I love all kinds of music, but this is what I find truly inspirational, and I'm so glad that you have found it too. Alert: Dream Theater is on the second leg of a U.S. tour now through November. By the way, Dream Theater is inspired by a good chunk of the music that you have reacted to - they even came up with their first band name, "Majesty", waiting in line for a Rush concert. Thank you!

    I'm 49, been playing all kinds of instruments for decades. Not just this song, but DT's their whole catalog blows me away. Stuff like Van Halen, I can learn. (No offense to the late Eddie) drums, bass can be figured out hence all the cover bands. I find myself clueless with Dream Theater. Not everyone's cup of tea, but damn, gotta respect their ability. Sometimes it's just raw talent from birth-like an athlete or race car driver or scientist. I'm so envious.

    Oh my god you just stepped into DT world...
    You’re gonna live such great emotions and pleasure listening to their best masterpieces...
    Try Octavarium live from Score :-)
    They play a lot of different stuff so don’t hesitate to tell us what you prefer (long masterpieces, instrumentals only, catchy metal singles, great metal ballads...)
    Cheers from Paris

    The orchestral section was written by the conductor who was a Berklee student at the time and the orchestra were all students too.

      That is incredible!!

    • @gmillerdrake
      @gmillerdrake 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not true. The keyboardist, Jordan Rudess wrote the orchestral section. The Berklee conductor and students were asked to perform it as John Petrucci and John Myung were former students there from long ago.

    • @dirtpile
      @dirtpile 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gmillerdrake ... Maybe we're both right? "with the help my (Rudess) young protégé Eren Başbuğ, a young Turkish arranger/conductor who took what I had composed on my keyboard and fleshed it out for a string orchestra. And then the string orchestra came into the studio and he came in and conducted them."

    I’m glad that you enjoyed this performance. Another reactor, after watching Breaking All Illusions from this same show, said that he normally does enjoy Prog rock. But, seeing it performed live gave him a newfound appreciation of the genre. I think that you should consider watching live performances when subscribers suggest Prog songs.
    Strap-on keyboards are typically called “keytars”. Jordan Rudess is playing a brand called the Zen Riffer. Keytars get a bad rap as being too cheesy, but they are a lot of fun to play. I once owned a Prophet Remote keytar that drove a Prophet 5. Boy, was that ever fun.

    A synthesizer is just an electric piano usually (sometimes using analog means of delivering the power if we want to get picky) - the guitar / keyboard he was playing is called a "Keytar".

Kind of wish other react channels would do the same thing as it brings a bit more perspective into what the reactor is experiencing. Two thumbs up.

    The highest class musicians together. Welcome to Dream Theater. You have so much to discover, they have the whole spectrum of songs.
    May I suggest a few:
    If you want another epic; go with Octavarium (studio version or live at Score)
    If you want heavy song; go with The Glass Prison (studio version is the best)
    If you want emotional ballad; look no further than the song called The Spirit Carries On (live Scenes from New York or studio version)
    if you want an instrumental; go for either Stream of Consciousness (live at Budokan or the studio version) or the proggiest song in all of the prog called The Dance of Eternity (live at Boston Opera House or studio version)
    Really enjoyed your reaction!

    Hello again Kristin,
    The 1st time I heard of DT, was on the back of a "Kerrang" Magazine (from the UK); for an ad of this new band, and it said; "If you like Rush and Queensryche, you'll LOVE Dream Theater!". I was HUGE fans of both :D. So I went back to the same record store in Costa Mesa Calif. over and over till the debut album finally arrived, on _Lp_ of "When Day and Dream Unite" from 1989. I still have it (and now 3 versions of the album on CD) and have been a fan ever since, seen them 5 times, but haven't seen them with the drummer of the last 4 albums "Mike Mangini". Hope to see them in November. But they have a HUGE catalogue for you to delve into and quite a "history", which you can see here, about the band, and the "tale of 2 drummers": th-cam.com/play/PL2DU3TBNutEfMeG1MuXyZk4MHVIlfrDx6.html
    As you can see, for some reason DT has been the "whipping post" of Prog Metal where people have STRONG opinions about the band. There is a generation that grew up with Periphery, Animals as Leaders and Between the Buried and Me, but "Prog Metal" had to _start_ somewhere, and there were many that came _before them_ and Dream Theater. If you ever have time to spare, you can read about my personal journey through this music and hear the bands that pioneered this genre: mavearworx.weebly.com/blog/witnessing-the-birth-of-progressive-metal-part-1-of-2
    You have MANY albums to checkout from the band and those that inspired them :). Hope you enjoy the journey and GO see them when they come to your town! As they are on tour for the latest album.
    Btw - You're looking gorgeous (no disrespect to your significant other ;).
    (Edit): "Synth" is short for "Synthesizer", basically it's the electric keyboards with programmed sounds. Jordan Rudess (their "3rd" keyboardist who has been with the band the longest) actually has helped pioneer technology for keyboards, as seen here and MANY other videos:
    1. th-cam.com/video/ZosI-966HLw/w-d-xo.html
