    I recently changed my greeting when passing another runner going the opposite direction from me from "Hi" or "Good Morning" to "Seek Beauty". During my long run on Sunday, the reply I got back was "Work Hard" to which I then replied "And Love Each Other". Made my day! Seth you are making a difference!

      @@AverageRunningPT It really does. I'm in the point in my training where every long run is a distance PR. Really rewarding when you feel exhausted running those distances.

    I've been consistently running for 1 year and 2 months, and your videos, along with following specific training plans, have helped me immensely in my running journey. I can't wait to run more marathons now haha!

    I ran a Half Marathon last weekend, with my new PR (1.42.11 for 21km).
    I have been following your vlog for almost 6 months.
    Your video motivated me to run more and train harder. All your videos are very very useful for me.
    I built my aerobic engine, training for polymetrics, and tempo runs by following your training blocks and 6 of your videos "How to run faster".
    Thank you Seth for all your valuable videos that worth my time!!!

    QD: I had ran only about 4 times since December. Hard to stay motivated when it is so cold. However, I signed up for and did a half marathon in Richland, WA last Saturday to kickstart me back into my running routine. Weather has improved lately and was high 40s/low 50s with 25-30 mph wind gusts. I finished 2:02:49 which is better than I thought I was going to do given the lack of training. Did a 5 mile recovery run yesterday. My next race is a half marathon on March 28th. Then, I have a full scheduled April 11.

After a rough start/course misdirection by the organizers, started in a "Second Wave" and absolutely crushed this beautiful course to get my BQ! Set a 24+ min PR of 3:12:03 over my 2019 MCM time of 3:36. Training cycle adjustments and nutrition plan really paid off. Hats off to this community for the great tips and motivation. QOD: ran an 11mile LR on Friday. Have a half marathon coming up March 14th. The long run went great. My goal for the half is 1:45-1:40, and the LR I ran 8:08 pace. Was a good change of pace instead of running faster at the end it was more like jumpstart the engine than holding on and working with my endurance!

    QD: Coming back from calf/ankle injury I decided to do a small tempo test with 1:26 half marathon. Far from perfect, but looking optimistic with May half marathon ahead. Two months of training should be enough to prepare me for leading an official 1:25 pace group.

    QD: Paced a friend of mine for a training-half-marathon, that he wanted to do 4 weeks before his next attempt at breaking the 4 hour marathon mark. Turns out he crushed is HM PR by 4 min, standing at 1:47h now. So I am very confident, he'll reach his goal at sub 4 hours.
    Hamburg is pronounced quite differently to your suggestions btw, if your intention was to pronounce it the German way at least :) The "Ha-" is like in "haha" and the "-burg" (which means "castle") has the "U" as an "oo" like in "room" for example. Would be nice to see, if that weird explanation will make you able to pronounce "Hamburg" the proper way :D

    QD: I'm coming back from an injury and trialing Jeff Galloway's run/walk strategy, where I run 1km then walk 30sec. I did 16km (10mi) on Sunday using this through 12km. Paradoxically, I am running faster than I was before my injury. I'm pretty happy with that. My son, broke his Parkrun pb by 32sec, which was great to watch.

    I have a question regarding your pacing strategy during training runs. How fast is easy/steasy/steady compared to your goal race pace? I am training for my first marathon this spring, shooting for 6:50 pace and have been doing my long runs around 7:04. It doesn’t feel too hard at all, but I know the long run is supposed to be slower. Just curious what your thoughts are around pacing. Thanks!

    There seem to be some different takes on how to pronounce the name of this city! I have been there a couple of times, and this is my take on how the locals pronounce it:
    1st syllable - “ham” as in the meat
    2nd syllable - “bourg” - noticeably different to the pronunciation of places ending ‘berg’. English speakers tend to pronounce both the same.

    Hey Seth, on your training block, is it as clear cut as adding tempo runs post aerobic base then removing tempo and adding intervals? Or do you add tempo then also add intervals (I.e. in say week 10 you will be doing easy/ steasy runs + tempo runs + interval runs?)
    Also, do you carry tempo and interval into the taper (I.e. maintain intensity but reduce volume?)

    technically it is HAHM-burg just like you're saying it, but by that logic you would also have to say AHM-sterdAHm and PA-REE instead of Paris etc.

    I'm doing a trail marathon in July with two fairly big climbs at the start and end, middle 12 miles is pretty pan flat. Would I look to implement a similar 16 week training structure as the one Seth uses for a road marathon, just with some more specific hill work, or would it be completely different?

    Should try out the Adidas Boston training shoes. Heard they’re like the Aiddas Adios just a bit more cushioning

      I love them and worry they won’t be as cushioned now that more recent colors are “light strike” instead of Boost. Might have to pick up some more on sale now that the v 9 is on the way. I’m also checking out their new model, the SL 20. It’s also light strike but looks like it will have more substantial cushion than the Adios. I tried the Adios 5 on but it didn’t hug my foot like the Boston. Not a good fit for me.

    QD: just started trying some low heart rate training for a triathlon in April. Never realized how difficult it is to run and keep your heart rate at or below 140bpm (zone 2)! I just want to go fast!

    Do you think that if you are in a training program for a specific distance like marathon or 50k. You should include a long run at that distance? Every training plan I see comes short by 4-5 miles of the goal distance which I think is pretty significant. My first marathon training plan maxed out at 22 miles. Real world I would still have 40 minutes or so on my feet to complete a marathon.

    I'm so jealous! I got IT band syndrome around the same time you injured your knee. I still can't run. Haven't been able to go out for a run for months now. Taking anti inflammation meds going on 3 weeks and still no help. I don't want to go strengthening my body until the inflammation goes away, but it just doesn't want to settle down. How did you get your inflammation to go down so fast?

    • @connerstone9195
      @connerstone9195 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      you need to strenghten your gluets and hip flexors, i had the same issue went away in two weeks with constant hip and gluet exerisces, also use a resistance band this aids in recovery a lot

    • @Martha-fluterunner
      @Martha-fluterunner 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also had it on one side after my first marathon last August. It wasn’t going away by itself, and stretching and massage wasn’t enough. Find a great physical therapist. I did and she observed that my hips were rotated. She gave me hip and flute strengthening exercises and I did them religiously, but she also gave me what turned out to be one magical asymmetrical stretch to correct the rotation. More or less it was like pigeon pose on my back for one side and a hip flexor opener for the other. I was back and running a couple of weeks after starting this routine and now I’m training for an April 20 marathon but this time the problem hasn’t occurred. In retrospect I noticed a nagging ache on the side of the one knee during my long runs last summer but figured it was just normal soreness. NOT!

      @@connerstone9195 I started to do this, but my knee pain would flare up. So I stopped and figured I should wait for the inflammation to settle. I think I'm going to start up again. Thanks.

      @@Martha-fluterunner thanks, I hope to get this figured out soon. Have a half marathon in May I need to start training for. Won't be able to compete, but I at least want to run the race.

    For my easy pace. My half is 1:25 and I recently ran a 10 miler at 1:02:46. Do y’all think I could break 3 in the full?
