    So fun fact about Surf Ninjas; Ernie Reyes Jr said in interviews that Leslie Nielson remained in-character the ENTIRE time during filming in order to intimidate the rest of the cast, likely because this was one of his very few villainous roles and didn't want his comedic past to throw his fellow cast members for a loop.

    • @GmodPlusWoW

      Even in stinkers, Leslie Nielsen was a treasure.
      Imagine if he had a role to play in Red Alert 3. He would have fit right in, even as Tim Curry goes into *_SPAYCE_*

      people dunk on everything until they realise years later that they were wrong, but then its too late ! history is full of TV shows or movies that were great yet nobody liked it... exemples of Firefly, Mortal Kombat (second really sucks, but first was awesome) by today those series or movies are now considered pretty good, great even. but its way too late and we will never get the sequels we should of had because people are too quick to judge something good or bad without having any kind of middle.
      surf ninjas is like that... yes the story wasn't all that great, but the movie itself had good stunts, good fights and it gave the ninja treatment what it deserved... a good laugh for being something silly to begin with. rewatched it a couple years back... still hasn't lost its touch. unlike say the TMNT of the 80ies which i just can't seem to watch anynmore thinking, what the hell was i smoking to even watch this and saying it was good ?

    I don’t typically defend Rob Schneider but he was great in Surf Ninjas. He plays a guy that thinks he’s psychic because every time he asks “what if _______ happens” it would happen. The actual stars of the movie tell him, it’s not a real power it’s just a coincidence. Halfway in the movie, after falling off a cliff after asking “what if someone falls off a cliff” his character asks “what if I lose this power?” His character doesn’t get his power again the rest of the movie.

    General Chaos's favourite feature of mine was going "Commando" (har). Instead of using the cursor to position your troops, you could control them directly with the d-pad. The downside was having to control only 2 characters instead of 5. It was truly SKILL MODE.

    Lemme tell you all my General Chaos story. My best friend, in middle school, and I rented this game so much weekend after weekend at The Wherehouse that im sure we couldve bought the game 2 times over. We would always have his mom take us on Fridays to rent movies and games and one day we grabbed General Chaos because we couldnt find anything and we just could not stop playing it. The best part was that we would eventually move on and rent other stuff but when there was nothing available we could always get GC because it felt like no one knew about it so it was always available to rent. Good times! His mom was a gem of a woman. She would not say no to us when we asked her to take us.

    Fun fact tangential to Silpheed CD: Sega actually made the first arcade Laserdisc game. (No, it was NOT Dragon's Lair.) It was an overhead shmup called Astron Belt, which used the LD for video backgrounds. The neat thing is the background objects had hitboxes and you had to dodge them, integrating the video into gameplay. Which is pretty much what Silpheed did, a decade later on console.

    • @jayden6538
      @jayden6538 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Likability goes a long way when overlooking flubs, and this show has plenty of it. Also, I remember a commercial for that movie as a kid specifically mentioning how the one uses a game gear, like it wanted me to buy one.

    • @Aevilbeast
      @Aevilbeast ปีที่แล้ว

      You can't deny that it's appearance in a Movie totally got a TON kids who saw the movie to beg, plead, promised and generally drove thejr parents mad, like kid are apt to do...just get there hands on!
      Even back then as a diehard Sega fan when I was younger, the game gear never really appealed to em. . The GG as it was just way too big too carry around, and most of the games were disappointing watered down of games from the Genesis. Instead actual original games or new takes on old ones, that made specifically take advantage of the hardware .
      But, of course, there where some exceptions to this rule where they were very similar original game but offered different to make it unique enough for gamer to want to buy/rent to check it out. (The GG Shinobi, with all it's different playable characters and being able to choose the next stage ala Mega-man comes to mind!_
      I remember thinking as a kid that it reminded me of what SEGA did with their master system, take a uper popular game on the Genesis/MD and try to find way of getting to work on the master system, In kinda of tactic to make a maximum amount profit for the one game, banking on it's name and notoriety than actual good gample and word-of-mouth a much as possible or banking of people like parents/grandparents who might know the difference aand instead bringing home a new Genesis a copy Sonic, you get a Master-system with a copy "Sonic"...
      Now the SEGA Nomad, on the other hands...Now that's my cup of tea! I wanted one SO bad back in the day... IMO, even though it basically suffers most of the same cons as a the GG did (some even worse), but the fact it could play full on genesis games was more than outweighed those cons big time...But that's neither here nor there! LOL!

It's got this pretty big map where you can explore the island of sodor freely along the train tracks, and depending upon the different modes you play, it gives you different missions to complete. It's also got a free play mode where you can just screw around and do whatever you want. For a game that's clearly made for babies, it's one of the best I've ever seen.

      Most games at the time came in flimsy cardboard boxes that were easily damaged, if not thrown away shortly after purchase. So the boxes and inserts are typically rare. Although one exception to this (mostly) are early Genesis releases, which came in hard plastic clamshell cases that were far less squishy.

    I just remember trying so hard to beat Surf Ninjas, getting super excited to finally find a weapon (sword), only to not be able to use it.
    Spoilers - Arbitrarily, you need to find and pick up the sword or else the last boss will just kill you with a mini-gun as soon as you see him. If you do have the sword, you automatically use the sword to deflect all the bullets and then fight him normally (without a sword).

    It is worth mentioning that Sorcerer's Kingdom is only crushingly hard right at the start. Its one of those games where you start and you have to save before every single battle otherwise you will get an unlucky wipe at any second. After you get your third party member it really lightens up a bunch. Still not a great game though, however I've been thinking I really need to go back and give it another try now that my palate for these games is a bit more refined.

    I recently traded my game gear collection for a modded GameGear. SurfNinjas was the only game I kept.

    These weekly videos are great. Eager to play and learn more! I haven't been this excited about a new city builder since SimCity on the SNES. 😁

    I remember Sorcerer's Kingdom. Playing it at least, I never would have remembered a name that generic but the green haired main character somehow stuck with me. Also I Remember loving the fact that every attack both your character and the enemy wouldn't just hit the other with their sword, they hit them like two or three times. A little thing but I never saw that done back then in an RPG. I don't remember it being that hard but I was so young at that time that I had patience for a lot of video game BS that I definitely would not now, so I likely just powered my way through it.

    I've got a 10 year old son and a 12 year old daughter. We watch movies every Saturday night. When my daughter isn't around, me and my boy watch 90s movies just like Surf Ninjas. We just finished TMNT and 3 Ninjas and I was thinking about this one next. It's really fun to relive this old stuff!

    I've never heard of half those games. Honestly it's cool learning about a lot of games I missed out on in this era of gaming.

    Ernie Reyes Jr was awesome!
    I was born in the 80s so i was a kid when all this was going on. Ernie Reyes Jr is from san jose California and when i was a kid he would come to my elementary school in san jose and do karate demonstrations in assemblies. Damn, the 90s were so fun
