I cringe at how many times I walked in houses under construction. Never doing it again. Didn't even think it could get you killed. It's just cool to look at. I never messed with anything. RIP Ahmaud.

Yep. When I was a younger they tore down this huge blueberry field and started building condos. I remember me and buddies used to go inside of them at night and play hide and seek and it was so scary but fun. I like a kid though, I thought it was fascinating. No ill-will at all either

There's not a construction company on earth who wants random people wandering around their sites when nobody is working. Millions of dollars worth of tools equipment & materials vanish off build sites every year, not to mention liability suits if some dope falls in a hole & breaks his ass.
& while this verdict was correct (well except for the camera man) because you don't just get to chase people down wielding guns & making threats (See Rittenhouse case for further proof of this concept) Aubrey still shouldn't have been there.

When they were building my house, half a block away they were building anothe one. I was nosing around that house by curiosity. It was the same as mine with a few differences. So being curious is not a sin or certainly not a reason to be shot. This was murder. A premeditated murder. Period.

Its a bit more than being at the house.
      1. The neighborhood was "burglarized" three or four times. And suspicious activity.
      2. Two weeks b4 the tragedy Ahmaud was seen by two members of the neighborhood going into the house at night. When the police came he was gone. Leaving out of the back of the house is mad suspect. Why not come out and say whats the deal?
      3. Those events led to the day of the tragedy. Ahmaud could of said what do yall want? When the mcmichaels pulled up next to him to ask him.
      4. *according to opening statement, and this is allegedly. The mcmichaels stopped pursuing at a certain point. Travis gets out of the truck. Ahmaud runs by him. Travis calls the police. Ahmaud is then confronted by roddie and ahmaud turns around and goes back towards the mcmichaels. This is where the cell phone footage starts and where travis pulls out his gun.
I would argue a community has it in there right to know who the people in their neighborhood are.
The consequence of not are crimes like kidnappings and forced entry into homes.

As white people, especially those of us raised in the south, it gets programmed in there. When among “friends” in a “safe group”, comments, jokes, hateful talk, and everything else can come out. You could be at a kid’s baseball game (which often takes place in a private league where “they” aren’t welcome) and you may hear a group of folks talking about politics and how those n****** keep living off welfare. Or you may playing in your driveway and your dad is out there talking to the next door neighbor about how the neighborhood is starting to get run down and unsafe because a couple of black families moved in a few streets over. You hear that stuff as if it’s the straight truth from so many people in your life over the course of years and years, and even once you get old enough and smart enough to know it’s wrong, it is sometimes buried in there like a reflex. You have to fight it like this lady did. The thought pops up and you have to say, “Wait, that’s not right, it’s a racist assumption.” You have to actively push that stuff back and practice a new way of thinking. It takes time.

      Cute title huh?
Anyway it interviews white people who discuss their experiences with white privilege and entitlement in America. The honesty will FLOOR you. There's even one guy who says he was taught that blacks were the "same as animals and in just the same way you wouldn't abuse a cat or a dog, you wouldn't abuse a black person". 🤣😂😂 But he knows he's a victim of the crap he was taught and is trying to change (cont'd)

They make so much if him going into that house. There is nothing odd about it. Maybe he fantasized about building his first house, living in a similar neighborhood. Maybe he was really interested in construction, the process of building a house. I have done the same thing a hundred times. I like to look around and see the project progressing, imagine how I might do some things different, imagine how I would decorate the rooms. And I know lots of people who do the same when the opportunity arises. Since he ran through the neighborhood frequently maybe he just thought that behind the house, out of sight is a good place to take a piss, and with no doors he went through the house to get there. He never had a backpack, a bag, etc. So how do they imagine that he was a thief, and one dumb enough to keep revisiting the scene of the alleged crimes? It takes profound ignorance to be a racist. You have to be incredibly stupid to see "suspicious behavior" when you're looking at perfectly normal behavior. Or just enough of an evil douchebag to want it to be true bad enough that you actually devote energy to talking yourself into believing "logic" that you've concocted. So you can chase the person down and kill them. Then say to your friends and neighbors, "See? They can't be trusted. And I'm a hero now, cuz I protected the rest of you from him." And then everybody pats each other on the back on the way to church where they listen with rapt attention to stuff Jesus says. WWJD bumper stickers and all. FFS!

I’m an architect and love walking through construction sites to see what’s happening and all that. Usually sites are restricted but sometimes you can ask workers to do a walk through if they are there. Or you just walk in if it’s not closed off or not restricted.
The site in question was not restricted or fenced off, I probably would have done the same as Ahmaud and the other curious people that went there. BUT clearly now that’s a very dangerous and life threatening thing to do if you’re seen as a ‘suspicious’ person.
I believe the owner of the construction site was more annoyed at the security video alarm notifications he was getting more than the fact that many teens/kids and other people including Ahmaud were curious to take a look. He never called the cops on anyone or took action because nothing was ever taken. He also was concerned for their safety. Like with all construction sites you have to have safety gear (clothes) on to get in and I think it may have been his concern that the teens and other curious visitors would harm themselves over and above his security system alerting him at inconvenient times.
You might not have been a person that wanders into construction sites but a lot of people do. For me and some others, my fascination with sites led to a career. Then with some it just remained a fascination. It’s not a crime. Worst case you get a warning for loitering or worst case trespassing.
UPDATE: Justice was found for Ahmaud. It’s bittersweet. But I’ll take it.

If she is even telling the truth, she remembers this for one reason only: because he was black. I don’t tell myself “don’t be racist” when I see people of another race/color. Their race is really not important. I’m not saying I don’t NOTICE the different races of the people around me, I just don’t really care. It’s not important. The only way it would be memorable/important is if they did something that really hot my attention and cause the moment to be burned into my memory. A black person standing I the doorway of an incomplete house means little to nothing to me. The fact that she remembers so much about something that really is so innocuous…that’s the reason she had to tell herself not to be racist. Because she is. It was only because he was black that she even took notice of him to that level and still “remember” it today.

Maybe it’s because of the nights prior to him being in the house. Everyone wants to only talk about him being in the new construction house but not about him being in the neighborhood all the other nights that things were stolen. Not saying he stole anything and he sure as hell didn’t deserve to die even if he did but the intentions of the people living in the neighborhood were to stop things from being stolen by what they thought was him. They tried to hold him there until the cops came which is legal. He tried to fight them and got shot. As terrible and unfortunate as that is I think we can all see this is why we were taught to not be in the wrong place at the wrong time. We were all taught to respect peoples property and most of us aren’t going “running” in the neighborhood away from our house. Several decisions and events on both side are what caused this horrible event but all anyone wants to talk about is the video showing him walking through a new construction house.
