This is the type of judge that DESERVES being called YOUR HONOR and DESERVES having the responsibility to judge in cases like these. Amazing job! He saw the unmitigated facts of the case without prejudice or favor.
The judge did a good job up till the neighbor that used his pickup truck as a weapon. In the interview with GBI William Rowdy Bryant admitted that he wished he would have hit Mr. Arbery with his pickup truck. He said he missed him. He walked out of the police station after making that statement. How in the hell did this guy who is convicted of felony murder and aggravated assault with a pickup truck show any sign of remorse. Look at how the system is still trying to protect white men. Throughout the cross examination none wore mask. It was designed that way so the world can see Travis fake cry. Now sentencing they have mask on to hide there Face from the FBI. Again this judge had it wrong when it comes to the neighbor. A pickup truck used to hit someone is just as deadly as a shotgun.

@@sburn1919 No bias, just facts. Judges can and do discuss how they feel about the case, once the verdict is rendered. Before a verdict is determined they remain unbiased. And if you actually followed the evidence you might understand what he's saying and why. Something tells me you will always be on the other side regardless of the facts.

Lets put this into perspective judge, if the three men you are sentencing today were wearing police uniforms you would be praising them for their heroic actions, and pointing out that Ahmaud would not stop and grabbed a police officers weapon and resisted arrest. Moral to this story, always call the police, don't get involved...

This judge is the real deal. Not only as a judge but as a MAN ! You can see that he is a highly intelligent man. Also, he doesn't give a damn if you are black or white and doesn't side with either. He was being judicious (forgive the pun) by leaving the victim's race out of the sentencing factors. By doing so he skillfully avoided grounds for appeal based on an allegation that he was influenced by public opinion surrounding the case.
compare him to the guy in the Rittenhouse case... the contrast couldn't be clearer. The demeanour, grammar, vocabulary, and most importantly the content of his speech are worlds apart. This may or may not be a good judge, but at least this video suggests that the he is a highly educated person, who most likely has a good grasp on the law, and the right temperament to preside over such a case.
I have reviewed this several times and I know that this judge listened carefully made his own notes and didn't just rely on what the jury thought. Not just in the south but the overall nature of the hatred that exist in this country. This judge payed very close attention and wasn't swayed by just being a judge, he acted as a human being having empathy for a murdered human being.
He was so impactful with the minute of silence. It is clearly meant to make us all have to imagine, especially the murderers, what Ahmaud must have been feeling for a fraction of the time that he felt it. It did that for me and had me crying!

This Hon. Judge was fair and professional in conducting his courtroom. He was serious and didn't show prejudice. He acted on the facts and the evidence. He even put Ahmaud's father out the courtroom because he said no outburst. This Judge was serious. He did not play to the cameras. He showed the utmost professionalism and integrity. He should be a Supreme Court Justice.

He said the very words that I thought when I saw the video - that Ahmaud Arbary was hunted down and shot. Just remember - no action was taken, no arrests or charges were made for over a month after this murder - until the video came out. I believe that they would have got away with it, if that video had never been made public. An innocent black man got hunted down and shot to death, and his murderers nearly got away with it.
I'm from Savannah, GA where this judge presides...and we all couldn't be more proud of him. I keep saying that this case is one for the books all the way around. The reason being, no Lord Justice practice in their home town. (safety reasons). So, do your Honorable Lord Justice practice where they live? Arbery was running from the scene of his burglary - watch him leave the house running with nobody chasing. Why is that? He had a reputation of stealing and using running as an alibi. Judge would not allow prior similar acts - Arbery also was diagnosed with a severe mental disorder. He admitted to hearing voices telling him to steal and hurt people.... not related right?

I had to choke back tears. He did an amazing job. He upheld the law and showed Empathy and compassion during the one minute of silence. Justice was served in his courtroom.
I'm not going to lie, listening to the judge here I was feeling a certain kind of way too. It isn't just the words he said its the fact that you can tell he is saying it with real feeling too. And the fact that it doesn't matter to him who the defendants or who the deceased is or was is clear and obvious, he wasn't letting any of the bias that everyone expected he would show skew his judgement. Very refreshing to see!

A judges job is not to show empathy and compassion to one side. It can be seen as prejudicial. A judge should remain neutral at all times and stick to the LAW. One of these days, a judge like him is going to send an innocent person to jail. How do you think that person would feel with a speech like he gave when the person KNOWS he or she is innocent?

Racism is everywhere, it's just not always loud, upfront, and in your face. I live in Savannah, GA where although it is predominantly black you can still see and feel racism. In the '80s, I was the only black person at a local dance school...white people took their kids out of the school because I was there. In 1990, I was the only black person at a private high school...I was called the "n-word" to my face. My three kids who are now all young adults still experience racism for themselves...so yes, it still exists. However, like the other person said...the majority of southerners will show you nothing but love and kindness. You just have a few McMichaels around that look for trouble.

Apart from his clear and concise reading of the entire case, 3 things the judge said will stay with me. A) He explained what the difference between an apology and remorse is. B) He maintained that the sentencing did not amount to closure (as each person comes to this issue from a different perspective and context) and he therefore looked at it as a day of accounting. Each person should be held accountable for their deeds and actions. C) He ended with the advice that if we assume the worst in somebody, we show our worst character, and therefore the best action always is, to assume the best in others.
Regarding the last point, you have to be willing to be occasionally disappointed when assuming the best in others. Maybe having the strength to do this is part of your good character.
He sounded like a man that saw it in right light people killing a young. Man created in the image and likness of God . Fearfully and wonderfully made to see them laughing joking and taking pride in what they did while AHMAUD lay on the ground . Racism and hate rules them. Typing and sharing the film with officers on the scence . It awful people that don't value human life .

The judge, Timothy Walmsley, excluded all of the following evidence: Arbery had a record. He ran from police who saw he had a gun. He had shoplifting convictions, and had a reputation among store owners as “The Jogger,” who would steal and then run away. He was so volatile his mother called the police on him, warning that he might get violent. You only like him for racial revenge reasons

Absolutely. Arbery could have been checking that house out because perhaps he would like to have purchased it at some point. He was doing no harm and, if he was, leave it to the police to make that decision which is risky in this case and could have lead to the same outcome for a black man in that neighborhood. I mean we now know that the DA covered up the case for the defendants. They got what they should have gotten thanks to this judge.
@@glw5166 exactly! I honestly think the kid was just fascinated with a home being built, probably interested in how it looks/works and just was so interested in it that he liked to just go look. Also, maybe this few minutes of solitude in this house was his only quiet moments throughout the day for him. He was doing anything wrong, didn't destroy any property or steal anything from this house. He probably could have gotten a job there if the owner was interested in hiring him. But of course, no one gave him the benefit of the doubt, they just assumed he was guilty because he's black. Very sad.
I want to know ONE thing. Why did Arbery enter that house? On more than ONE occasion. That's the missing piece of the puzzle. I'm not justifying what happened to him because it was wrong no matter HOW you look at it. Those guys weren't cops and it wasn't their job to pursue people. But the house is what started the whole thing. I don' think its ever been said why he entered an under construction house on someone else's property.

I believe this trial was an example from the judge as well as the state prosecutor of being non-biased sticking to the facts and punishing a criminal based on their actions . This judge should be remembered years down the road for his impact on the community if his moment of silence is a demo of his ability as a judge.

When even the police failed to give aid to him while he laid in the street dying, broke my heart. This ruling is the little good that came out of this horrible crime.
Well..... He took two blasts at point blank range from a 12 Guage...... To the chest. There's nothing police or EMS could have done. The medical examiner testified to this. He said ahmaud was dead before he hit the ground.

He went straight to Ahmaud, got down and testified he was there when he took his last breath if I remember correctly.

The judge did a good job up till the neighbor that used his pickup truck as a weapon. In the interview with GBI William Rowdy Bryant admitted that he wished he would have hit Mr. Arbery with his pickup truck. He said he missed him. He walked out of the police station after making that statement. How in the hell did this guy who is convicted of felony murder and aggravated assault with a pickup truck show any sign of remorse.
Look at how the system is still trying to protect white men. Throughout the cross examination none wore mask. It was designed that way so the world can see Travis fake cry. Now sentencing they have mask on to hide there Face from the FBI.
Again this judge had it wrong when it comes to the neighbor. A pickup truck used to hit someone is just as deadly as a shotgun.

He was being judicious (forgive the pun) by leaving the victim's race out of the sentencing factors. By doing so he skillfully avoided grounds for appeal based on an allegation that he was influenced by public opinion surrounding the case.

The demeanour, grammar, vocabulary, and most importantly the content of his speech are worlds apart. This may or may not be a good judge, but at least this video suggests that the he is a highly educated person, who most likely has a good grasp on the law, and the right temperament to preside over such a case.
I have reviewed this several times and I know that this judge listened carefully made his own notes and didn't just rely on what the jury thought. Not just in the south but the overall nature of the hatred that exist in this country. This judge payed very close attention and wasn't swayed by just being a judge, he acted as a human being having empathy for a murdered human being.
He was not a judge in this moment, he represented what human life is suppose to be about. Thank you for people like this in the world. 🤲🏾

I am grateful for this jury’s verdict. Also for this judge being honorable. This was a despicable crime.
He said the very words that I thought when I saw the video - that Ahmaud Arbary was hunted down and shot.
Just remember - no action was taken, no arrests or charges were made for over a month after this murder - until the video came out. I believe that they would have got away with it, if that video had never been made public. An innocent black man got hunted down and shot to death, and his murderers nearly got away with it.
I think life in prison is too lax for some horrible crimes. I spent time in prison and it's not that bad.

The reason being, no Lord Justice practice in their home town. (safety reasons). So, do your Honorable Lord Justice practice where they live? I'm not going to lie, listening to the judge here I was feeling a certain kind of way too. It isn't just the words he said its the fact that you can tell he is saying it with real feeling too. And the fact that it doesn't matter to him who the defendants or who the deceased is or was is clear and obvious, he wasn't letting any of the bias that everyone expected he would show skew his judgement. A judges job is not to show empathy and compassion to one side. It can be seen as prejudicial. A judge should remain neutral at all times and stick to the LAW. One of these days, a judge like him is going to send an innocent person to jail. How do you think that person would feel with a speech like he gave when the person KNOWS he or she is innocent?

I’m an African American and I’m so proud of this judge he gives me hope and renewed trust in what could be if we had more like him in the judicial system

I am grateful I was able to hear this kind judge. Up to this time in my life I have only heard about judges letting criminals walk. Absolutely 0 accountability. My heart bleeds for this young man. It makes you think you are watching a 1930 movie like To Kill a Mockingbird. Sadly this is real life. I hope and pray they are punished to the full extent of the law

Racism is everywhere, it's just not always loud, upfront, and in your face. I live in Savannah, GA where although it is predominantly black you can still see and feel racism. In the '80s, I was the only black person at a local dance school...white people took their kids out of the school because I was there. In 1990, I was the only black person at a private high school...I was called the "n-word" to my face. My three kids who are now all young adults still experience racism for themselves...so yes, it still exists.
However, like the other person said...the majority of southerners will show you nothing but love and kindness. You just have a few McMichaels around that look for trouble.

When the term "when your words comes back to haunt you" is an understatement.
Apart from his clear and concise reading of the entire case, 3 things the judge said will stay with me.
A) He explained what the difference between an apology and remorse is.
B) He maintained that the sentencing did not amount to closure (as each person comes to this issue from a different perspective and context) and he therefore looked at it as a day of accounting. Each person should be held accountable for their deeds and actions.
C) He ended with the advice that if we assume the worst in somebody, we show our worst character, and therefore the best action always is, to assume the best in others.
Regarding the last point, you have to be willing to be occasionally disappointed when assuming the best in others. Maybe having the strength to do this is part of your good character.

The judge, Timothy Walmsley, excluded all of the following evidence: Arbery had a record. He ran from police who saw he had a gun. He had shoplifting convictions, and had a reputation among store owners as “The Jogger,” who would steal and then run away. He was so volatile his mother called the police on him, warning that he might get violent. You only like him for racial revenge reasons

Absolutely. Arbery could have been checking that house out because perhaps he would like to have purchased it at some point. He was doing no harm and, if he was, leave it to the police to make that decision which is risky in this case and could have lead to the same outcome for a black man in that neighborhood. I mean we now know that the DA covered up the case for the defendants. They got what they should have gotten thanks to this judge.
@@glw5166 exactly! I honestly think the kid was just fascinated with a home being built, probably interested in how it looks/works and just was so interested in it that he liked to just go look. Also, maybe this few minutes of solitude in this house was his only quiet moments throughout the day for him. He was doing anything wrong, didn't destroy any property or steal anything from this house. He probably could have gotten a job there if the owner was interested in hiring him. But of course, no one gave him the benefit of the doubt, they just assumed he was guilty because he's black. Very sad.
I want to know ONE thing. Why did Arbery enter that house? On more than ONE occasion. That's the missing piece of the puzzle. I'm not justifying what happened to him because it was wrong no matter HOW you look at it. Those guys weren't cops and it wasn't their job to pursue people. But the house is what started the whole thing. I don' think its ever been said why he entered an under construction house on someone else's property.

I believe this trial was an example from the judge as well as the state prosecutor of being non-biased sticking to the facts and punishing a criminal based on their actions . That moment of silence was the loudest minute I’ve heard in a while. I could feel the terror, the helplessness and the desperation more in that minute than any other minute of my life so far. This judge should be remembered years down the road for his impact on the community if his moment of silence is a demo of his ability as a judge.
Imagine being black and living in that moment of silence your entire life. That’s something that can never be understood or even related to.

When even the police failed to give aid to him while he laid in the street dying, broke my heart. This ruling is the little good that came out of this horrible crime.
Well..... He took two blasts at point blank range from a 12 Guage...... To the chest. There's nothing police or EMS could have done. The medical examiner testified to this. He said ahmaud was dead before he hit the ground.
