  • In just over a month, on Juneteenth, a preliminary report will release one of the country's most comprehensive analyses of reparations, ways to compensate for economic, legal, and political inequities resulting from slavery, Jim Crow, and other historical practices.

    Reparations is actual proven victims being compensated by their actual violators.
    Forcing the innocent to pay nonvictims for something that happened to neither of them is not reparations.
    If you aren't out anything; You aren't owed anything.

    • @GeeBee212
      @GeeBee212 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Why do you keep moving the goal post? The violators are and were the US government. We can send billions to fund wars that don't concern us yet be obviously obtuse when it comes to righting wrongs in the US. By doing so we may all be able to live peacefully. Unless you feel that you can't win unless you have a head start. Hmm!?

      Do you? Do you have a reference for that? I've never seen anything about reparations going to modern aboriginals.
      I have certainly never heard about any ongoing payments for the trail of tears.

  • @michaelpcoffee
    @michaelpcoffee 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    For real reparations: they identify an actual victim of the offense in question.
    They specify the abuses and damages.
    They assign a dollar amount for their compensation.
    They pay the victim.
    If the victim is deceased; they identify the closest living legal heir and pay them.
    What is the name of the slave that you are trying to collect the unpaid reparations for?

    • @GeeBee212
      @GeeBee212 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I have the names of most of my enslaved ancestors, thank you but reparations are also about injustices under Jim Crow. My father couldn't buy a home in Levittown after having served this country in WWII because although the homes were built for returning soldiers who were using their VA benefit, it was only for white soldiers. White Jewish, White Spanish, White Italian, White Arab, etc.. were allowed to purchase homes there but not Black people. We were denied a separate but equal education and then were forbidden to live in areas where more resources were put into the schools. We were denied access to colleges and universities that our tax dollars supported based solely on race. In the 1970's housing developers were sued for taking government money (our taxes) to build middle income housing but then denied access to Black middle class families. Don't be obtuse. You know what you all did!

      @@michaelpcoffee What hubris to think that the decision in yours! Lol! Oh the federal government made people jump through hoops to prove that they were even entitled to VA benefits. Their bureaucracy created a wonderful group of records complete with documents stating why Black veterans going back to my ancestor who fought in the Revolutionary War, the ones who fought in the Civil War right up to Viet Nam, were denied what was due them based solely on their race. The aggrieved have the proof. Actuaries work on the numbers.
      It's amazing that we can send billions to other countries to feed their war machines but don't want to repair the wrongs done to Americans who have been here since there was an America.

    Newark, NJ is suffering because of redlining and segregation from the past. There is no "urban revival" - just middle and upper class mainly White people coming for corporate jobs or entertainment at Prudential & NJPAC. The poor are still suffering.

      And yet there’s no legal grounds for cash payments. No contract naming an ancestor specifically, no Will stating you’d be entitled to their belonging and proving they didn’t want it to go to a cousin or charity. Then there’s the cost of verification of documents, dna and proving a debt. Who pays for that investigation and verifications?

    I don't believe in slavery reparations; however, I do believe that those who suffered after slavery was abolished but still faced discrimination should be compensated to a certain extent. For example, in cases where people unlawfully lost their homes/properties. Those should either revert back to them, their relatives in cases of death or get paid for it.
