went looking for thylas, found a level 100 saber. picked him up with my argy and flew him alllll the way from the redwood biome to one of the beaches down south where i had a pin xD

I like how in ark the sabertooth has a purpose but the real smilodon was nothing like this cat and would probably make a thyla cry the largest sabertooth was estimated to weigh 1000 pounds the sabers bite wasn't as strong as a lion but it dealt massive blood loss and could kill prehistoric mega fauna in minutes they are widely believed to be pack hunters and if their social structure was anything like a lion's they could form mega prides similar to the mapogo lions the arms and claws af the sabertooth was most likely its most powerful weapon having the longest claws of any cat being backed up by one of the strongest paw swipes in history it could probably break the necks of large prey or wrestle them to the ground sabertooth was not a fast runner so it likely ambushed its prey at close range in a burst using its body weight to bring large animals down and if you compare it to modern big cats its roar may have also been a powerful weapon tigers today produce infrasound in many cases people have reported feeling paralyzed after hearing it if smilodon possessed this powerful ability it could have given it an edge over its prey its prey would only be paralyzed for seconds but that would be all it would need to catch it it and wrestle it to the ground if ark gave the sabertooth a paralyzing roar and a pounce attack with a bleeding affect it would totally break the game.

Just tamed four and I can’t wait to find the fifth for a good pack of saber cats
My right of passage is a carnotaurus. I had basically just unlocked tranq arrows and farmed up a couple hundred the first time I ever played then a level 86 carnotaurus attacked my thatch hut. Managed to shimmy up a rock and tranq it. Still have her to this day
Love the initial backstory, had a similar experience really early on in-game too but in search for an Argent after getting a saddle from fishing, ended up traveling miles just on a Craptor (to coin a phrase). Great informative guide as always.
You can get saddles from fishing in ark?
This is so timely for me! I just tamed my first a few days ago and I got jumped by raptors before I could get him off passive... rip :'(

Peter DeMaio ooh I know that pain. Been sans dino pen for so long I had everyone set to passive so they didn’t run off. My higher level Anky got munched.... by an ichthy-thorn-in-my-side lol. Fixed on his bro tho. They have such a nice sunburst look to them. Fits the volcano aesthetic I’m going for lol.
I never set my dinos to passive unless im planning on taming something i have to get off them but i ussaly put them on neutral

I tamed one of these guys, wanting to go into a cave. But we went hunting, to level him up. When I got home, he was still riled up, jumped into a burning forge and killed himself.

The Smilodon is my 2nd most favorite animal in ARK (behind The Ice Wyvern) and in real life (behind the Velociraptor)! I❤ this video and the prehistoric cat!!

I’m probably late on replying but I must say that It is quite a viable base location especially since you can find rich metal deposits not only on the mountains around you but also where he has built his industrial forges and his primary base. :)
I could only wish for the sabertooth to have an ability as well for the TLC
Since it spawned with packs I think It should have a similar pack ability also known as 'Pride buff' it's a similar ability where theres 1 male and multiple females, similar to real life lion prides from the savannahs.
And I should also suggest it's ability to like stalk it's prey similar to the ghillie armor where it could crouch and slowly walk towards tou while you aren't looking as if you won't see them coming but if you spot them they'll immidietly just charge and deal huge damage with the first strike then the rest are just it's normal damage

5 sabertooths attacked me but luckily i had a triceratop to kill the other 4 and damaged the other for a bit then finished it of with a tranquilizer its pretty dope having a sabertooth

That story about phlinger taming his first sabertooth reminds me of my first sarco tame. Except it didn’t take me long, and I spawned pretty close to a few of them, so it wasn’t that hard

These things are undervalued I had one Sabertooth and took down a level 20 T-Rex after I level them up. The one I had had good stamina so I just dumped everything into health and melee.

I didn't even know you could bola em I assumed they were immune to bolas so i went to the redwoods with my iguanodon and 10 raptors set em on passive and start tranqing the sabertooth hoping it wont reach me or ill have to kill it
Question for you guys. Do you find it more useful to have a base in each of the areas (snow, redwoods, etc), keeping the tames from those places at different bases, or do you have just one base with all your tames? And then when you wanna go to the snow lands, for example, and they’re really far away, you just take a Dino and walk or a flyer and fly there?
You can place a bed at any base, for example, I live on a beach and has a base at the redwoods, you can transfer to any base you want by using your bed, but it will drop all your items once you teleport to a base, or you can use your Dino to go travel, and not only that, if you place a bed in your base and get killed, you can respawn at the same spot where you placed your bed on
@@eissaalzaabi6587 I got knocked off my sabertooth by a raptor and died I was level 37 and now I'm 10. Do you know any ways to not get knocked off.
@@Max-ll6my try to tame bigger dinosaurs, or get a better armor, the best beginner tame is trike, carno, or raptor, but your Dino’s level better be high enough, the BEST choice you got is T Rex because it’s really strong, literally kills anything in front of him, so the best option is T. rex
While raptors are not that big of a threat, carnotaurus or trike would be a good tame
@@eissaalzaabi6587 thanks but I don't have the t Rex saddle just yet. I might try mutations for my sabertooth. I also just added my points to health so when I get knocked I don't die. I have 350 health lol. If you know what the best thing to level up for your person can you tell me like health stamina weight fortitude. Can you teach me the best way to imprint and mutate?
@@Max-ll6my yep, I hope this helps, first you gotta tame the Dino of your choice for example, I tamed a paracer therium, I need to know it’s initial stats which is it’s stats when it’s finally tamed, you need a good health stats to the creature of your choice, and then I tame an other paracertherium that has good amount of stamina, I mate the health with stamina paracertheriums, (just make sure with genders when your ready to mate) and then you will get a better paracertherium, sometimes a mutated creature will be born which will also add up awesome colors to its skin, but this occurs at 7% for a mutation creature. Not forgetting to mention T. rex, spino, or giganotosaurus are the best creatures to breed, so your good if you got a T. rex, there are also many options of creatures to mate
I'm new to Ark. Watching this video I am on Survival Evolved map, what is that dino in the back at 16:00? Isn't that a Gatcha or something like that? I thought I haven't seen one in my Survival Evolved map...How is it there?

This is a dumb question. 4:30, how does he switch back and forth from 1st to 3rd person so quickly on his bird? I always have to go into settings to switch back and forth to look at my map when I’m flying and it’s super annoying.
if it is enabled on the server the 3rd person view, you just use the scroll mouse up and down and you can change from 1st to 3rd
I was traveling around to kill terror birds when I a saw a lvl 9 Sabertooth and I ended up taming her but after trying to bring her home(didn't have a argie just a pheradon) but immediately got jumped by a raptor and she got killed by a raptor. I killed the raptor of coarse but I'm still bummed out :(
When a sabertooth jumps down a long way and lands on a rock he loses no health.
He can pounce on Dino’s and they are stuck under him for easy kill.
He is awesome at chitin harvesting.

Sabertooths are rather easy tames just use a bola and knock it out with club or tranq arrows.

Having god console is like basically a cheat code, you have to experience the game by heart and hard work.
I just knoked out a level 140 sabertooth with a cross bow and he had 73 health when he knoked out

I killed a wild lv 150 sabertooth with my lv200 Peteradon right after I fought 2 sabertooths(lv50 and lv100), if a Peteradon can kill a Sabertooth like that than the sabertooths need a buff, they really are to weak, I think they should be stronger than a Raptor I guess that they are about the same right now

Why did I not need a saddle
I fully imprinted a saber and its stat is similar to a thylacoleo it has 15k health 1k stamina 720 weight Melee damage 779 it took me 9hrs to get it

Actually a difficult tame. You want a high level one, and they seem to die before they pass out Sometimes. Hardest part?? I can’t find a high level male for the life of me! Got the female.... I really don’t wanna have to make a pen for a stupid cat :/

honestly, i don't know why people waste time taming creatures lower than 135. low level creatures can and WILL die very fast. i mean if your using that low level creature for kibble only. that's a good reason. but low level creatures are not battle ready.
