Plus the extra QOL features it has like the tool-less M.2 intall and PCIE quick release switch, it's 99% my choice. Just like the looks of the Taichi better, but yeah, this is the real deal.
I don't think I've ever been so excited about a motherboard! All those USBs are great for VR simulation stuff, with all the controllers and so on. And it's nice that everything stays so cool.
Hi Laurent, I have to say your unique demeanor and presentation style makes your reviews so entertaining, it's actually a pleasure to listen, thank you! Not to mention loads of technical data that is amazingly well presented in your reviews. I'm currently researching options for my new rig. Seems like Strix would be a winner, but the fact that using 1 of M2 slots or using 2nd PCIE slot would force 1st PCIE into x8 speed, it makes those 2 extra slots completely useless to me, since I'd never want to lose x16 speed in the first slot. Among other boards I'm considering (which coincidentally you already reviewed, ty), there's also MSI MPG X670E Carbon, which you haven't yet. Would you be able to review that one? Sure, it's got some less functionalities than Strix, but I'd greatly benefit from your observations, and would again enjoy another very entertaining video :) And if you can't do the MSI, perhaps AsRock X670E Taichi?
" but the fact that using 1 of M2 slots or using 2nd PCIE slot would force 1st PCIE into x8 speed" I believe that the lower slot with the MD2 4.0 will lower the pcie slot to 4. Using all m.2 5.0 slots has no effect on the GPU slot.
My ROG Strix X670E-E has randomly "lost"my Sabrent Rocket PCIE4.0 1TB NVME 3 times in 1 month of owning it. Every time I boot I have to physically unplug/reconnect my Corsair K70 M2 rgb keyboard too.... Asus support and Newegg both havent done anything to fix this $540 US MB in first month of "Launch"..... My R7 7700X does reach 5,750 on 3 cores though....Memory is running at 6200. Waiting on 7900XTX Red Devil release. Great video!
I got the Asus Rog Strix X670E-E running an AMD Ryzen 7950X in my system and I absolutely love them, so much power!! 👍😍👍😍 I am quite an audio freak ( with music, games and movies) and I always had a soundcard in my previous builds and my current builds and now I'm starting to think about getting a Creative Sound BlasterX AE-5 Plus, Creative Sound Blaster AE-7 or an Asus Strix Raid DLX eventhough the mobo has great onboard audio. What would you do? Onboard audio must have come so far by now or hasn't it?
One important thing, PCIe Lane 1 will run at x8 and PCIe Lane 2 x 4 if using that M.2_3 port. Honestly, I would have rather sacrificed that Gen 5 m.2 slot for a full x16/x8/4. Or even given us a third PCIe 4 slot that did not impact the other Gen 5 slots.
@@UTplay3r I got this one after confirming with ASUS that PCIe_3 would not impact PCIe_1. The third slot goes to the chipset. Since this board has a TB header, I can add a TB4/USB4 card and have the best of both world. The Taichi only had 1 gen5 m.2 slot and the ProArt made too many weird cut (SPDIF/No Q Code/ No clear CMOS). I have not received the board yet.
@@CreateNowSleepLater and how do you find the board compared to maybe others you had,as well as any issues? Just purchased this board used (without accessories though, hoping I don’t need them) and now waiting for it to arrive.
@@Reaper_000 I never bought others but this one is running well. If the proart had an extra pci slot, I might have gotten that one for the USB4. The gaming WIFI does have a slot and asus makes a TB4 card but it would get in the way of my bottom case fans. Thats a case problem though, not a board problem. Im actually thinking of pulling all the ASUS bloatware but havent has the time.
I agree 100% that this STRIX X670E-E is BETTER than the Crosshair Hero. AND, it's two hundred dollars LESS!!!!! Comparing them head to head, the two USB 4.0 ports are the ONLY real upgrade over this STRIX board. Well, it does have a PCIe riser card to add another M.2, but this STRIX board does everything else the Hero can do, has more usb ports and has more PCIe m.2 ports. There were approximately two or three other things this board had, the the Hero didn't have as well. I just can't remember them right now. Anyway, a great board for a lot less money. Also, I can't imagine in this day and age, what anyone would need with more than two SATA ports??? Having an actually HDD is logical as a gigantic storage drive, but more than that??? NOPE! So I get away with one SATA port most of the time, and a second one for data transfers on a large drive might come into play. So two ports is more than enough, and here we have four... And to be fair, I find the ROG RGB EYE to be MUCH more attractive on the STRIX X670E-E than the Z790, as the the crystal looking colors against that grid look awesome! I STILL think ALL of Asus's mobo's are WAY OVER_PRICED!!!! But, as these boards go, this is the deal of the bunch and a lot of bang for your buck... Thanks for another great video.
I would agree on the hardware side. But what Asus does is gives you more options in the BIOS on the Crosshair models for tweaking and OCing the CPU. Such as ASUS Custom Algorithms, ASUS Dynamic OC Switcher, among other settings/options. Its how they get people to buy up.
Is this still a good board for the Ryzen 7 9700X? Not sure when we will be getting the X870 boards in my country so debating this board vs the TUF X670E-Plus.
I have a 5950x on an x570 taichi and I'm sooo tempted to go to a 7950x with this mobo (X670E-E) based on everything that I'm seeing here. Thanks for the great review and making my decision that much harder.
100% do it lol?? Why wouldn't you your gonna eventually anyways!!!! You do know the Ryzen 9 5950x is already 2+ yrs. old right. I mean shit the 3950x is close to the 5950x lol. Up to you goodluck!!
I agree this is a great card! I have been using it for 9 months now with no issues. AMD 7900X CPU, 1TB Kingston KC3000 in M.2_1 slot, 2TB Kingston KC3000 in M.2_4 slot. I have been using the integrated APU but plan to buy an RTX 4070 class GPU soon. Since my Arctic Liquid Freezer 360 AIO hoses are so long and hang so low, the GPU would fit better in the PCIEX16_2 slot (the middle PCIe slot). Your video shows that this middle slot drops to PCIe 5.0 X4 (16 GBs) when using a dual GPU configuration (GPU in slot 1 and a second GPU in slot 2). If there is only one GPU and it is in this second (middle) slot, is the data rate still limited to 16 GBs? And is this an issue for a PCIe 4.0 GPU like an RTX 4070? Thanks - Great video!
Trying to map out a build. This board has 3 Gen5 m.2 slots. The manual says to use any of those slots. Does that mean they all run to the CPU or do they share lanes? There is a 4th Gen4 m.2, I am assuming that goes to the chipset sharing bandwidth with the sata ports? What about the USB ports in the back? Do any of the USB-C ports have dedicated bandwidth? Finally, I dont know much about Thunderbolt cards. If plugging on into the 3rd PCIe slot, does that count towards sharing the PCIe lanes? (The main GPU slot is Gen5 x18. Occupying the other slots makes it x8/x4/x4)
I did just buy this MB with a 7700x and Trident Z Neo EXPO... It didnt run without an BIOS Update, guess it didnt like the RAM. Two things that i didnt know, an maybe some need to know. 1. the 2nd PCIe 5 m.2 slot shares it lanes with the PCIe x16.. so only x8 when you put an M.2 in that slot.. 2nd. the thermal pads are realy sticky... the 1st M.2 slot heatsink is not that easy to get reinstalld. and the thermalpad and the SSD kinda "glued" together. minor details.. but nice to know i guess
Even tough i used a lot of MSI boards this time I think Asus is better at this price point. MSI has: - 90A VRMs vs 110A on Asus - 2 M2 gen 5 slots vs 3 on Asus - Realtek LAN (in the past i had lot of problems with realtek lans)
10:29 What speeds will we get with single GPU if we use the second PCIe 5 slot instead of the first slot (near the CPU), reason for doing is to have a better air flow and thus thermals.
What about the internet connection reliability using the Intel® Ethernet Controller I226-VI 2.5 gbs this board comes with? I was seriously considering buying this Motherboard since I insist on having a 2 segment Debug Code display, which are quickly becoming extinct these days... That was until I started reading about all the problems with the Intel® Ethernet Controller I226-V NIC that this board uses. (Same random drops and disconnects as the Intel® Ethernet Controller I225-V suffered from, but this time, there is no reliable workarounds for the 1226!
Hi Laurent's, I really liked the review, I'm interested in getting this mobo, but I have this concern with the Realtek ALC4080 codec. I've seen several videos and opinions saying it has problems with hissing, audio cutting out, static, and such. There's even a video showing cpu errors with mobos with this codec. But I've not found any info about it on this specific mobo. My alternative is getting a Tuf Gaming x670E that uses Realtek 1220A which has less problems but I'm not sure it will support my RAMs. Do you know if this codec's problems have been solved?
Amazing video, incredibly detailed and in-depth! Between this and the Gigabyte X670E Aorus Master, which would you go with? I'm heavily deciding on the Rog Strix X670E-E, Rog Strix X670E-A, or the gigabyte one I just mentioned!
Would love to see you review the b650e asus mobos. i ended up buying the b650e-f board from asus as the quality from this and the tuf x670e seemed fantastic and the lower price was compelling. Still would be interesting to see if there's anything they messed up when stepping down to the B chipset
A good card if used with max 3 nvm and 1 gpu, and maybe a capture card. If you use the gpu at x16 the second pcie5 and a m2 pcie5 slot are disabled, if the primary pcie5 is used at x8 one of the two resources can go to x4 and the other is disabled, so not really a forward-looking implementation
Love the review as you sold me on this board as I was upgrading my PC and went with AMD this time around . Question I have a internal sound card installed in PCIE Slot 3 will this disable the M.2 in slot 4 as I have 4 M.2 in my system and I only see 3 out of 4 . just wondering as you been testing this thanks
Excellent coverage. One thing you didn't mention is if you use the top nvme m.2 slot and the first graphics slot does it half the lanes from x16 to x8 on both the graphics slot and the m2 slot?
I had the same motherboard installed and it has a coil whine. Not happy with my purchase and will return it. Edit: I found out that the electric buzzing sound seems to only be triggered during Windows boot (the logo) and it disappears later. Not sure why it does this but my old PC has Asus board and it does the same. So probably will keep it.
Laurent, another great video congratulations! 2 questions if I may: 1) this or the MSI X670E Carbon? 2) I have the Razer Orochi v2 which has a 2.4ghz wireless dongle. 2.4ghz dongles are advised by many people to be connected into usb 2.0 ports and this Strix has none. Do you now if it will work ok on usb 3.0 ports? For instance, on the MSI X670E Carbon manual, the 2 usb 2.0 ports are advised for mouse and keyboard. Thanks!
Hi Jvidia. The Carbon is on my long list of mobos to review, but for knowing them well I would think it is very similar in terms of performances to the STRIX-E. You can use any USB port as they have universally the same driver recognition. The reason why it has been historically advised to use the UNS 2.0 plug is to not waist a 5 / 10 gbs plug on dongle which will use only a fraction of it available bandwidth.
I'm also wondering the same - Carbon or ROG STRIX and even when I used a lot of MSI boards I think now I'll go Asus. It has better future proof VRMs (110A vs 90A on MSI), more PCI-E 5 SSD slots and MSI has realtek LAN (in the past i had a lot of headaches on boards with realtek LANs).
I'm looking for a new board in 6 weeks, was set on the TUF gaming, especially after seeing your video on it a few weeks earlier, and now see this Gaming-E board review. Where I live, Gaming E is nearly double the priceof TUF! 240 vs 460! I can't work out the reason, any idea?? I hate the ASUS RGB Armory Crate software etc, never got it working on my current Z370, and the TUF looks like it has no RGB, so I'm still think it's the right choice.

Two different breed of boards. The elite being more classical, yet still very well fratured. The strix is reserved for that last 10% more performance your are looking for
Do you think the GPU unlocking mechanism is flimsy when compared to the improved design on the Z790 counterpart? I know you made clear it wansn´t a deal breaker, but do you belive it is more prone do ´break´ or show any defect? We´re talking about the main GPU slot, so any concern is valid. Anyway, unlike the Z790, this motherboard promises much more upgradability. Imagine swapping to a top tier Ryzen CPU 3 years from now.

Investing in this board will definitely help people to have a drop in upgrade to the upcoming zen 6 32 core monster, I think vrm is ok to handle it.
You’re definitely the best tech reviewer I’ve seen, good work and thanks for the laughs.
Great video!
i dont have this issue on my x670e-e with 7700x, but i do have worse memory performance because of stability
has it been fixed?
I got the Asus Rog Strix X670E-E running an AMD Ryzen 7950X in my system and I absolutely love them, so much power!! 👍😍👍😍
I am quite an audio freak ( with music, games and movies) and I always had a soundcard in my previous builds and my current builds and now I'm starting to think about getting a Creative Sound BlasterX AE-5 Plus, Creative Sound Blaster AE-7 or an Asus Strix Raid DLX eventhough the mobo has great onboard audio. What would you do? Onboard audio must have come so far by now or hasn't it?
Why don't you just buy an external dac/amp? LDS labs makes some great stuff for a good price
May I ask which one did you end up getting?
In comparison, the MSI X670E Carbon works the same ? Or the 3rd M2 PCIe 4 eliminates this "issue" ?
@@Reaper_000 I never bought others but this one is running well. If the proart had an extra pci slot, I might have gotten that one for the USB4. The gaming WIFI does have a slot and asus makes a TB4 card but it would get in the way of my bottom case fans. Thats a case problem though, not a board problem. Im actually thinking of pulling all the ASUS bloatware but havent has the time.
I know it’s only aesthetics but I wish this board had a backplate and metal shrouded dimm slots.
@@JMNovak1011 The Strix E has those options as well...

Thanks for the review, you are aware you installed the ram in the opposite slots that are marked as “preferred” on the mb right?
Thank you for the great and thorough content. You helped me choose this great motherboard and I'm really enjoying it.

Nice review! My country gets the new stuff late so somehow I see this board on my fave store's custom build menu and find this year old review. 😂😂😂
Great videa, very informative!
Toh i for the love of me can't decipher if your accent is either german or french
How is your motherboard behaving? WiFi connections, network, booting into Windows?
Another great review. Thanks for sharing.
2nd. the thermal pads are realy sticky... the 1st M.2 slot heatsink is not that easy to get reinstalld. and the thermalpad and the SSD kinda "glued" together.
minor details.. but nice to know i guess
thanks for sharing !!! Important notes!
2nd pcie 5 m.2 slot... is it the one under or above the gpu socket ?
Аccording to me MSI MPG X670E CARBON WIFI is the best board X670E price quality. What's your opinion?🙂
Even tough i used a lot of MSI boards this time I think Asus is better at this price point. MSI has:
- 90A VRMs vs 110A on Asus
- 2 M2 gen 5 slots vs 3 on Asus
- Realtek LAN (in the past i had lot of problems with realtek lans)
10:29 What speeds will we get with single GPU if we use the second PCIe 5 slot instead of the first slot (near the CPU), reason for doing is to have a better air flow and thus thermals.
What about the internet connection reliability using the Intel® Ethernet Controller I226-VI 2.5 gbs this board comes with? I was seriously considering buying this Motherboard since I insist on having a 2 segment Debug Code display, which are quickly becoming extinct these days... That was until I started reading about all the problems with the Intel® Ethernet Controller I226-V NIC that this board uses. (Same random drops and disconnects as the Intel® Ethernet Controller I225-V suffered from, but this time, there is no reliable workarounds for the 1226!
does it have a software fix out yet ?
I'm going to build a new amd pc with their new X7950x3d do you think Strix x670e-e is better than Asus ProArt X670E-Creator?
Which did you go with bro??
And which one did u get?
Thinking about buying this board but I’m not sure tbh…

Could you explain more? Or provide some data where I can read more about this?
Your incredably informative. Love your content 💪

Fantastic review, mate. Thank you!
You skipped over the Alteration Mode Switch. What does this do? I have read the menu but what should we set this to for a 7950x3d
Where have you gone we are still waiting for u in the group
Laurent, another great video congratulations!
2 questions if I may:
1) this or the MSI X670E Carbon?
@@Laurentschoice are you going to review soon the MSI X670e Carbon?
I'm also wondering the same - Carbon or ROG STRIX and even when I used a lot of MSI boards I think now I'll go Asus. It has better future proof VRMs (110A vs 90A on MSI), more PCI-E 5 SSD slots and MSI has realtek LAN (in the past i had a lot of headaches on boards with realtek LANs).
Laurent, review after review, love it :-) !
DO NOT BUY ASUS. If you use any of the OC/EXPO settings the motherboard will get unstable, it will not post and when it does it will ask you to review your BIOS settings -> saving and exit without changing anything will make it boot normally most of the times -> else you might spend 20 - 40 minutes trying to make it boot. Then it will work for a couple of days and it the issue will start again. Plenty of posts everywhere mentioning this issues. Go for ASRock.
Would you recommend this mobo over the b650e-e for the ryzen 9 7950x3d?

Hi, does the HERO version shares Lanes PCI E 5.0 with m2 or works like this one? AMD
So the ryzen 7600 wouldn’t be recommended for this motherboard ?
