I'm just getting into board games and watching lots of videos at the moment to figure out what sorts of games I'm interested in. From this I think I'm definitely more of a Zee gamer. Thanks for all the great suggestions from you both!
That was pretty good. Sam & Zee play off each other really well. Of course, I was expecting a shot of Tom coming in towards the end, leading to a "Who, us? Nothing going on here." type moment, but I enjoyed the back and forth quite a bit. I was half expecting Sam to shake the Mage Wars box or perhaps suggest that it needed a component drop. That would have been interesting. :)
10. Guildhall 9. Among the Stars 8. Legendary: A Marvel Deck-Building Game 7. Keyflower 6. Seasons 5. Android: Netrunner 4. Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game 3. Rex: Final Days of an Empire 2. Tzolk'in: The Mayan Calendar 1. Rolling Freight
I really enjoy Lords of Waterdeep as a cube pusher. Even as a cube pusher there is enough strategy to it with the plot quests that it just works as a competitive strategy game. If anything, I'd complain it is too short to really utilise any advantage a player might get, but I hear the expansion is set to resolve that.
Really great show! I would like to see some reviews with all of you guys (including Tom), + Ryan Metzler who does great reviews! Four critics for epic games!
I'm new-ish, and as far as I can gather, the euro games have a more abstract representation of what you're playing with, plus generally a scoreboard. So in a game with, say, cars and pedestrians, you'd have blocks and cones to represent them. In an american style game, the cars and pedestrians are little cars and people on the board, and you tend to win based on specific objectives rather than the score you have at the end of the game. ...at least that's what I've gathered... I could be wrong.
Just an idea for future perhaps if you've done reviews for the games in the top 10 list you could put links to the review of the game(if you have done one) in the about section:)
Yeah...we talked about that after filming that segment. I was talking about the original Android game, and Zee was talking about the original Netrunner game. All I can say is...oops!
Zee is my favorite. The shit-talking bravado. But it works so well with Sam. You're such a lovable grump stick in the mud! I miss Tom though, he's the balancing force between you two. I love you guys together!
It's funny Zee's falling asleep during the description & explanation of Lords of Waterdeep, & it won an award @ the Origins con 2013. I usually like Zee's opinion in these videos, & I haven't played the game yet, so I'll give him credit & maybe side w/ him on that.
Cube pusher, to me, is a game where you grab a bunch on red cubes and trade them in for blue cubes and combine them with yellow cubes to generate victory points. So, the idea is you feel like you're just pushing around wooden cubes, not going on an adventure or exploring space or whatever the theme might be. Not immersive, in other words.
Just a small correction: the "original" when it comes to Android: Netrunner is the old Netrunner game, that A: N serves as some kind of reprint for. Android (Just "Android") is a completely different game.
There's some truth to that. There are exceptions however, if the low-key theme is cleverly combined with the cube pushing. For example in Lords of Waterdeep, I do sometimes get the feeling, that I actually AM sending various adventurers on a quest, rather than just picking different coloured cubes. It is also one of the few eurogames, where I actually say "give me two warriors and a rogue" instead of "I get two orange and a black cube". Go figure.
The publisher of "Trains" could have been a little more imaginative in their titling of this one (and their artwork too, apparently); I'm having a helluva time finding it on Amazon...
There is big buzz around here for this game. I suspect that when it available locally, our game group will have two or three games running for a while.
Yep, but currently they don't actually tell me anything more than a list of "20 cool games to Google" - just listing off the titles - would. Their top 100 games of all time list, on the other hand, gives me at least an idea on how the game actually plays and who might like it.
Euro games are usually management games that don't involve your character actually being on the game board. Think Risk for a quick example. American-style is... well, usually whatever else you can think of that isn't chess.
Sorry @Weckar I disagree with your definition. Risk is Most Definitely American-style (and probably not considered a Hobby game). EURO-GAMES: Are typically Resource Management games where you are earning Victory Points. Usually, there is no player elimination. Typically components contain wooden cubes. AMERICAN-STYLE: These are typically games oozing with Theme. May contain lots of miniatures. Players elimination is a possibility (if not the goal) Although the boundaries are blurring...
I've played dixit a lot lately and it's a really fun game if people who are playing it have a vivid imagination. Othervise it's not going to please you. You really have to think outside of the box sometime with that game :)
A lot of people who watched this apparently expected a "review." Go to their website if you want individual reviews. That isn't what this is or what it is supposed to be. You're basically complaining that this isn't something that already exists. It is a top-ten list, not a review or playthrough!
I want Robinson Crusoe SO MUCH, no where is stocking it though. If anyone can link me to anywhere that sells an English version I will love you forever.
euro- all the starting positions are the same, usually no dice, there is a theme, but its not heavily implemented, usually the art work is amazing, and there is usually no player elimination ameritrash- has any of the following-dice, strong theme, asymmetrical starting positions, player elimination
"I will deal with Vasel later!". Zee as a Bond villain... Really funny! :)
You guys are awesome. Bring them back! The chemistry between you guys (and Tom of course) shows why the Dice Tower is the best.
Zee you are amazingly funny. You need to seriously consider tv. You're a freaking natural and you bring this podcast up over 9000.
This Top 10 list video is one of the most enjoyable I've watched from the dice tower. :D Nice one Sam and Zee!
I have to say, I love both of these guys. So cool to see them in their own video.
I'm just getting into board games and watching lots of videos at the moment to figure out what sorts of games I'm interested in. From this I think I'm definitely more of a Zee gamer. Thanks for all the great suggestions from you both!
This was the funniest Dice Tower video I've ever watched. Great work!
You two should be the Space Tower. Together you two rock. Bring on more.
Absolutely amazing and the ghost busters theme at the fend was the icing on the cake :-D
Great selection of games guys. Loved the show and you two rock!
You guys are always fun to watch.
Great video, thanks for the Robinson Crusoe game suggestion, I am looking forward to playing it once it comes out
I'm glad we're seeing more Zee in these last videos. the more Zee the better!
10. Guildhall

I really liked the back and forth and the teasing between you two. It was funny.
Love the dice tower lists! Good fun and laughs watching everyone. What's up with Zee's top ten of all time? I'd like to see that.
It's incredible what a nice graphic redesign has done for Trains.
The ending of this video is perfect
I like the way these two guys play off each other...
Oh my goodness! I'm so happy to see Libertalia so acclaimed! Me and my friends have played it once and we love it!
How come the nickname the "Vasselator" has not catched on?? :D
Actually, Zee and Sam (and their biases) really show how open-minded Tom is and how suited he is to playing various games from different genres.
We demand more Sam and Zee!!!!
Almost all these games have been reviewed by the Dice Tower and you can find the full reviews on their website
Where can I get the official Zee action figures?
Nice vid. Entertaining and informative. Good double team!
I really want to get Among the Stars but I cant find it in print anywhere >
Really great show! I would like to see some reviews with all of you guys (including Tom), + Ryan Metzler who does great reviews! Four critics for epic games!
It made me grin that you have the same theme as melody :D
What is a "Q pusher" ???? They make this reference when talking about Lords of Waterdeep.
Kemet looks cool. I was surprised not to find it in this list.
I thought it could have been a game Sam would have liked.
Does Seasons take place in the Dixit universe?
Great job! Really enjoyed this.
When does Trains come to the US? I NEED IT
The do reviews of all these games individually. They're pretty good too. :)
Do you guys have both of your full lists posted anywhere?
I'm new-ish, and as far as I can gather, the euro games have a more abstract representation of what you're playing with, plus generally a scoreboard. ZEE you are the new hero of The Dice Tower.
The end music made me LOL.
lol at Sam sleeping during the Dixit pick.
Just an idea for future perhaps if you've done reviews for the games in the top 10 list you could put links to the review of the game(if you have done one) in the about section:)
Cool duet. Great reviews!
Yeah...we talked about that after filming that segment. I was talking about the original Android game, and Zee was talking about the original Netrunner game. All I can say is...oops!

Im kinda new to the boardgaming scene so if somebody could sum up what is ment by euro-/american-style games it would be much appriciated.
It's funny Zee's falling asleep during the description & explanation of Lords of Waterdeep, & it won an award @ the Origins con 2013. I usually like Zee's opinion in these videos, & I haven't played the game yet, so I'll give him credit & maybe side w/ him on that.
Thanks from Poland for the Convoy and Robinson :D

5 top 10s from the Dice Tower for 2012...all 5 lists are quite different...I would say that suggests that 2012 was indeed a great year for gaming!
Zee, please give me your personal top 5 co-ops while I wait for Robinson Crusoe to arrive!
Vassel Who? Great top ten guys - loved it.
Dixit needs to mandate a 2 minute storytelling to make it worth playing "hard core"
Got some really good info on what to buy from this, think Robinson Crusoe and Libertalia is going to find it's way home to me.
The publisher of "Trains" could have been a little more imaginative in their titling of this one (and their artwork too, apparently); I'm having a helluva time finding it on Amazon...
You guys want to sell your copy of Among the Stars since you can't get it in the US anywhere?
you guys need the DNDeeples for Lords of Waterdeep...I haven't used thecubes at all!
There is big buzz around here for this game. I suspect that when it available locally, our game group will have two or three games running for a while.
I love Zee's picks. all the time
They have good banter.
aaand the Ghostbusters theme comes in. Haha classic! Loved it :D
Yep, but currently they don't actually tell me anything more than a list of "20 cool games to Google" - just listing off the titles - would. Their top 100 games of all time list, on the other hand, gives me at least an idea on how the game actually plays and who might like it.
what do u mean when you say it's a "queue pusher"
cube pusher
Pretty sure he means it gets people to buy it but really has no relevance to the game play :)
Cube Pusher. A Euro where you push abstract cubes. (resource/worker movement/allocation basically)
Euro games are usually management games that don't involve your character actually being on the game board. Think Risk for a quick example.
American-style is... well, usually whatever else you can think of that isn't chess.
Show names ideas: the board brothers, beards and boards, grizzle and shine!
we want more sam'n'zee!
No mice and mysics?
You guys are hilarious together!
No biggie of course, you guys still made me laugh... and order some of these games :(
Sorry @Weckar I disagree with your definition. Risk is Most Definitely American-style (and probably not considered a Hobby game).

What is a EUROgame (and a EUROgamer)?
is it for us Eurpeans or...
I've played dixit a lot lately and it's a really fun game if people who are playing it have a vivid imagination. Othervise it's not going to please you. You really have to think outside of the box sometime with that game :)
LOL!!!!! that was very entertaining... i actually really Like Sam and Zee's new show

I'm very interest in what game you'll put in this list.
I love zeeee!!! :3333 (I'm just gonna say this over and over again, i apologize in advance)
When does Robinson Crusoe actually come out???
A lot of people who watched this apparently expected a "review." Go to their website if you want individual reviews. That isn't what this is or what it is supposed to be. You're basically complaining that this isn't something that already exists. It is a top-ten list, not a review or playthrough!
You know that youtube has a feature for skipping content right? Like all media ever created...
I want Robinson Crusoe SO MUCH, no where is stocking it though.
If anyone can link me to anywhere that sells an English version I will love you forever.
where is eclipse?
euro- all the starting positions are the same, usually no dice, there is a theme, but its not heavily implemented, usually the art work is amazing, and there is usually no player elimination
ameritrash- has any of the following-dice, strong theme, asymmetrical starting positions, player elimination

You guys look (& sound)so much alike! ... in a way
These guys have the most exquisitely-shaped craniums on TH-cam. I'll bet their brains are yummy.
That's "Cube Pusher".
Great video
