    I am not entirely convinced a leather strap is an upgrade. If you’re out for a long time - your kit will get greasy, dirty and wet and pretty soon that strap will be a sticky wet thing. Leather doesn’t really wash all that well - the original strap does. It also does not soak up stuff. Also the buckle system with holes in the leather is less flexible in terms of tightening the set with different amounts of things included or just packed in different ways. The orginal allows any setting. But other than that it’s pretty neat looking, pre-use.

      Thanks! Leather used for ages and some times this greasy look of a leather add some charm! If to look from practical side yes synthetic strap is a choice. Happy hiking!

      @@foxdogcattop I know. I have been making whatever leatherworks I need for years. However - this is light leather. I suspect it’s not going to end up all charming weathered and amber-golden from the stuff that comes off a trangia. The soot will just simply leave grey-black-bluish grimy streaks and smudges and the sticky stuff likely won’t be smooth, shiny and oily, but sticky and greasy in the way of dried yellow-brown food fat, and it’ll come off on your fingers and travel on to other parts of your gear (and you).
      Not to overly belabour the point, but I have a sheath for an old swiss army knifeI made from a similar piece of leather. I treated it with oil and wax, and it’s perfectly serviceable and reasonably waterproof, but I can shake the feeling that with some of the smudges on, some which happen to be trangia-related it has a strange kind of greying morbid look to it. Maybe in 20 more years who knows - (or I could have just dyed it from the outset and it would have be a little more forgiving).
      Anyways - just an opinion, thanks for the content it’s a nice looking set, I like the red pan.

    I don't get it! You managed to turn an expensive cook set into a super expensive cook set. So you bought a red handle and then you covered it with leather? What do you do with all your left over bits? You can always recycle them by sending them to me. Otherwise, great video....

    • @foxdogcattop

      No man, you understood wrongly. No need to cover one cover with another cover. Red plastic handle can be used as its own. Leather cover can be used on handles without any cover just not to burn fingers. Simple. Also leather cover can be used for camping spoons forks to avoid rattling. So multi-use available what everybody likes.
      I am not big fan of recycling since prefer things which serves a lifetime. About making expensive already expensive items I do not think that Trangia stands out much in price comparing to other cook sets. As for me my first cook set was Trangia only because when choosing in between others I liked an idea that I get burner wind protection and set of pots in one box. And that was at that time within a budget for me. Later possible to upgrade by type of fuel size of pots and pans. And what I like in Trangia there’s options to upgrade.
      Anyway thanks you a lot for your thoughts!

    I watched you open boxes for 10 minutes and got tired of it and went to bed. Ever thought of selling cars?

    Thanks for the great video showing some of the possible upgrades for a Trangia cook set. The bags look excellent, especially for the 25 cook set. I do notice that a lot of people keep the plastic liner for the non-stick pan. Even with the optional cutting board the non-tick surface can rub and be damaged without it.

    • @foxdogcattop
      @foxdogcattop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for a great comment! Agree it look excellent and on top that it also very practical. Spacious so, even burner and fuel fits without some kind of pushing inside. Regarding plastic liner, you right , most will agree , its always better to have double protection!

    The new split tubing on trangia kettles are useless, soon as the kettle warms up it spins around on the handle. burning your hand is to easy now, a massive downgrade. I will be making my own that will work as intended.

    • @foxdogcattop
      @foxdogcattop  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks anyway for a comment, but could you be a more specific for readers what split tubing on Trangia kettles you mean. Just look through the models they have currently in the shop and they look all same to me as in last years.

    • @stevegresty4181
      @stevegresty4181 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@foxdogcattop My earlier kettles had the tube fitted before the handle was bent, your red handle mess tin has a split tube fitted after being bent into shape.

    • @foxdogcattop
      @foxdogcattop  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Now I understood. You right. That one Trangia call mess tin. I had similar experience with that split tube handle cover I remember. Also I am using often the thin cotton gloves when cooking on different camping stoves. To grab something hot happens so many times to me. So I am wearing gloves for protection.

    Wow, you must have spent fortunes on those upgrades. Has it improved the cooking at all?

    • @foxdogcattop
      @foxdogcattop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That more about design. Some old loved stuff can get a new look. For most of who is hiking and traveling that will not brake a budget. Funny to talk about cooking improvement when cooking on camping sets. ;)

    I really enjoyed your video! Trangia 27 Titanium was the first light weight camp stove I ever purchased. I take it on all my car camping adventures. It was fun watching you dress up your old friends. I would love to find one of those red non stick frying pans! There is something so cherry about the red. Thanks for the video. Happy cooking!
