    Just used it and it worked great, easy. Thanks for the tutorial.
    If you have thin latex gloves, recommend using them unless you want a free wax/exfoliation. Took hours to get it off my hands! =P

    Left the protective cover down like the video said. Ended up pealing back the mapei tape when removing it after a few days.. should have removed the masking tape before the mapei had dried and retaped to protect tray while tiling

    I applied the primer to the tile Backerboard a few months ago but got sidetracked with other projects. Will I have to prime walls again?
    If so. Is the Mapei primer G the same as the primer included in the kit? Or can Sbr mixed with water be used? Thanks

    In my jobs i waterproof hole bathroom floor and shower horizontal corner. In this case i would just tape use wps and silikone between wall and battom together then efter tile silikone again

    I have used Mapei AquaDefence on walls on my bathroom where tiles are to be used as the walls of finished in dot and dab as an additional precaution including the wooden shower tray plinth I have built. Can I take it that the Shower Waterproofing Kit will be compatible with these?

    Hi MaipeiUk. May I ask whether it is possible to paint (oil-base) over Mapeigum WPS? Thank you

  • @arsecheese51
    @arsecheese51 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    So you return any water behind the tiles into the shower tray, but then in front of the tiles you have a silicone bead. Won’t this stop the water from returning to the tray.. it will just build up behind the tiles, no?

    • @redfox05nl
      @redfox05nl 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I was wondering this too. Wouldn't that first lowest level of tiles hold back a certain amount of water behind it.

    • @mart34
      @mart34 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you're worrying about the silicone bead preventing water that has already leaked through the tiling/grouting flowing back to the tray, that's some serious leak you're talking about which would have caused serious damage to your house had the water proof barrier not been behind the tiles. The whole point of this system is to reduce liklihood of water damaging the rest of your house. Too many showers rely on the silicone only as a barrier, which isn't sufficient unless you resilicone every 5 years or so, and that absolutely requires the shower enclosure frame removing to do so properly. Most shower leaks occur under the enclosure frame where it sits against the tiled wall and tray, then people stupidly start siliconing the inside of the frame, which doesn't fix the issue and sets it up for a larger failure.

    Hi. Can it be applied on a lime plaster wall instead of fixing backer boards to help with waterproofing?

  • @MrGreen-td6dw
    @MrGreen-td6dw 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    A) once tanking has been applied and dried, do you need to apply tile primer on top of the tanking before tiling?
    2) when tanking on top of plaster that is very porous, could you apply tile primer first, let the plaster suck all that in, then apply the tanking primer and membrane?

    • @MapeiUK
      @MapeiUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello, You do not need to prime the tanking system before tiling.

    Had it applied last week in ensuite shower area. The smell is horrendous. Really toxic but it's meant be non toxic. We have tried having the fan on 24 hour in ensuite. Keep bedroom window open all the time to try to get the smell out (no window in ensuite). Extractor fan on. Burnt lovely candles, burnt incense.....
    It's such a nasty smell. It's been put over WEDI boards.
    I have tested it on an offcut of wedi board and the same pungent smell appears.
    Having smelled the actual container it smells like amonia which apparently isn't normal.
    Is this smell going to go away or do we need to remove our new panels, remove our new wedi boards and get a tradesman to come start all over?

      Same here, I used the product to waterproof bath/shower enclosure and the smell is still extremely strong days afterwards despite room being aired 24/7 since being applied. Smells like burnt plastic. I really hope the smell is going to go away, starting to regret having used this product.

    • @MapeiUK
      @MapeiUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi David, thanks for getting in touch. Yes it can be used over existing tiles but you must just clean the tiles and not use the primer. Then paint the Mapei Mapegum WPS directly on the tiles.

    • @redfox05nl
      @redfox05nl 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Are you saying you then tile over the tiles again? Surely the wps over the tiles won't waterproof the existing tiles and make them look nice, out would just be a wall of grey wps?

    Please could you explain the difference between Aquadefense and Mapegum products?

    • @MapeiUK
      @MapeiUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Further to your request please find a brief comparison below:
      Mapegum WPS:
      • Domestic use
      • 24 hours drying time before tiling
      • 0.5mm dry film thickness
      • Internal only
      AquaDefense:
      • Domestic and commercial use
      • 4 hours drying time before tiling.
      • 0.8mm dry film thickness
      • Internal & external (secondary layer of protection)
      We hope that helps, should you require anything further please do not hesitate to contact us.

      Unfortunately we would not recommend a microcement topping onto our Mapei Shower Waterproofing it. The system is flexible which can cause the microcement system to crack and fail.

    can these rollers/brushes be cleaned with water and re-used again? .... for primer maybe yes, but for the Mapegum WPS too ?
    or even just keep the roller / brush in a plastic bag until the next coat and then discard them ?
    also I think it can be watered down for concrete and plaster ? otherwise only get about 3m2 coverage as it soaks up too quick in the plaster, and that's with one coat
