Honestly it speaks to how good the art design is in Souls games that it inspires so much fan-art. Fromsoft is a lot like Bethesda - great concepts and a lot of heart, but goddammit they are not that good at the "game" part of their games. But the art design and atmospheric storytelling? It's already inspired generations of artists.
@@monsieurdorgat6864 Going to have to stop you right there. Bethesda? Definitely has major issue with the game aspect of their games. Fromsoft on the other hand has created some of the best games of two console generations, along with a gameplay style so good and popular, it created it's own subgenre. So popular, that huge titles like the new God of War took heavy inspirations from them.
So Fromsoft's games do the "game" part exceedingly well on an objective level, or they wouldn't have near the amount of sway in the industry.
These art competitions are a good way to get us artists to actually do shit other than practice all day long
Vaati-san, please do a music/soundtrack contest! It would be awesome to hear and participate in such a great competition!
As nice as that would be, it'd probably be more difficult to pull of, on one side to present and on the other to integrate into the lore. It would come down to "and here's some nice potential boss music", right?

I think it'd work if the musicians collaborated with the painters. The music could play in the background while Vaati explains the art and the lore. I think there already was an entry like that.
I've been obsessed with Janes art ever since I saw her entry in the last competition, and I am so happy to see her get 1st place in this one. So extremely well deserved, even with such amazing pieces from the other artists. I actually bought Mortal Shell mostly because I learned she was involved with the project! I really hope developers reach out to her and let her amazing talents get put to good use.

Her stained glass piece alone is amazing. The variety of skills, the execution of all of them, top tier. Top art.
That said i think the second by Christian Reyes just fit the game perfectly. If someone told me that was the original concept art and design i would have believed it a 100 %, it's spot on.

You and Zen Cloud absolutely had the best character designs imo. I really liked your story aspects too. When The Widower and the Husks shrieked and wailed whilst looking towards the man... Incredible. This could also be how those poor soul's met their demise at the Dyatlov Pass 🤫
Your rendition made me genuinely sad, it hat the biggest emotional impact of all of those. The story you tell is really touching and the concept would make for a great level, thanks for that!

Wow.. This is why I'm proud to be a part of the souls community! I've made so many friends here, slayed so many enemies in jolly cooperation, laughed, cried, and now I get to again appreciate the sheer talent of this community...
For anyone who doesn’t know:
The pillar was still fallen in the recent footage from the remake, and (I learnt this from others, so I don’t have source) Bluepoint supposedly confirmed they are not going to be adding cut content such as the area, but they are open to working with Fromsoft to do so.
Basically: it could happen, but don’t expect it on release, and even then; don’t hold your breath.
Hearsay is just that. Official word is all that matters. Considering that part of the trailer was the simply exact cutscene from the original game, but in the new engine.

@@bromora989 Exactly. It was the same scene from the original. All the same angles, shots and dialogue. It wouldn't have shown anything different even if there were differences within the two versions of the game.

@@bromora989 The scene was recreated for its iconic introduction of the Maiden in Black. Just like the descent of the Fools Idol, also shown. It doesn't prove anything in itself. Except a lot of people looking at a trailer and clutching at straws.
dayum these people have spend countless hours getting good at their craft. This isn't your average fan art, this is straight up professional work, very impressive and commendable.

Jane needs to be able to work on a full sized game. Mortal Shell, while great, felt like a demo for what feels like a potentially vast world. It only takes like 4 hours or less to do a regular run.

All of these people deserve to be noticed by FromSoft and BluePoint.
Even though I got 4th place on this competition, I was so humbled when looking at all these entries (and all previous contests' entries, to be fair). While I was watching the countdown, I was saying "oh man that is so awesome", all the time! Jane's 1st place is super well deserved, but in general, every entry has something beautiful and unique to it. I'm very happy to be part of this :)

How can you be sure someone didn't just leak Demon Souls DLC? What if you just paid $2000 for DLC, Vaati?
There will most likely be no DLC for demon souls, because for that to happen, Bluepoint would need at least, inputs from Fromsoftware and as far as we know now, they have no part in the remake whatsoever
We are all okay to say the number one should work for Fromsoftware

It will be funny if one of the entry is indeed from the developer member of the sixth archstone that's sadly cut because not enough time back then

@@centralunit100 Well no they don't, not really. The Northern Limit made by FromSoft does exist. It was simply cut. I'm sure there is enough design and concept information available for Bluepoint to connect the dots and finish it themselves.
@@pious83 Maybe, but would they _dare_ tread in that direction? Specially since it's a place that is still unfinished down to the lore bits? Or would they take the safer route and just do what they excell at: remaking everything that a game already 100% has and add little to nothing else?
I mean, if we base ourselves on the Shadow fo the Colossus Remake that they made, they added a little new gameplay feature along with a new secret area under the Shrine of Worship and a new weapon. *But did they include any of the unused Colossi or their arenas?* _No._
Even though a Colossus like Sirius would not have been hard to add, given that the area of his arena is already in the game, Bluepoint still opted to not add them.
So as much as I'd love for them to try redoing Archstone 6, don't hold your breath on it, chances are basically 90% that they won't do it.
I really do not have the patience to read through or even listen through books. But I swear, if Vaati would do an audio book I would easily get through it.

I could immediately remember the amount of effort and the artstyle of Jane's piece from the Unseen Lands in Dark Souls competition where she made the Carim entry. Brilliant stuff.
I really feel like, especially the top 3 competitors, want or need to make their own game as writer/lead artist in these competitions you host.
Really wish Fromsoft would dedicate resources towards cut content. I'd gladly pay again for DS1 with a good Izalith or DS2 with better world design.
Bluepoint should have acquired at least one level designer from Demon's Souls and fix that archstone. I'll still get the remake eventually. It will be difficult to play seeing that if you blink you will miss the PS5 pre-order window.
@@pdrey100 but it would seem to be either dlc or will not be added at all because the arch stone is still broken which is seen in the background of the second trailer.
@@Vonechua I saw that too. Everyone was hoping for that. I mean it's not like the levels are huge, but they are packed with content. It could have been done. The ultimate trailer from Bluepoint would have ended with the main character touching a fixed archstone with a fade to black after teleporting. In the mean time I'm enjoying it on RPCS3(I own the original disc). Can't believe they still haven't fixed the few spots of missing geometry and the invisible soldier's shield, but it runs and looks great.
DS2? No, DS3 is the one with the actual worst world design, like it's so linear you almost might as well play Final Fantasy 13. There's only two ways to circumvent the order of events from the game - kill Emma and the Dancer early, or do Abyss Watchers before Crystal Sage and Cathedral. Even killing Dancer early doesn't actually do anything because you're still walled out from the Archives. Compare this to DS1 where the only linear sections are the tutorial, and Sen's/Anor Londo. You can do the bosses of the other two big chunks of the game in any order you want, and there are a bunch of optional bosses that you can do at any time in almost any order. Or DS2, which has 10 bosses that you can theoretically fight first, which is the most in the series. It has 22 bosses that you can fight second, which is almost triple that of DS1. And instead of DS1's weird yellow doors that arbitrarily lock you out from the endgame areas, you can pass through the Shrine of Winter as soon as you get one million souls, which can be unlocked early if someone likes to PvP (DS2 had the best) or co-op. People give DS2 shit for being like the branches of a tree, where you had options, but once you were done you had to turn around and go back, but DS3's world design (and DS3 in general) has so many more problems that people just gloss over without even thinking.

Seeing that dead giant in the distance with a ballista on it's stomach gave me chills, that's like god level design to put an enormous dead being in the distance. It tells you the tragedy that occurred on the very land that you're stepping on.
Arlo’s piece is easily my favorite. You tell just by looking at it the amount of hard work and dedication that he put into his piece. The pieces ability to tell such a deep and intricate story using no word is quite unlike anything I have ever seen. Arlo is a true master of his craft and many artists could only dream of reaching his skill level. Simply beautiful. 🥲
1:55 - Iron Baroness is so incredibly cool looking. Perfect look for the souls games, and truly seems like official artwork, very much in line with all other character art. Kudos to the creator.

6th place and 2nd place were my favorites. The 2 giants in 6th place look so creepy and alien, and yet also awesome and beautiful. I loved the twist of a dead old one and the lore the artist brought with it in the 2nd place entry.

Man I love that one that's disconnected from reality so to speak. Those kinds of concepts always fascinate me because it has the capacity to be more wild and imaginative than anything else. Like, most of games have to follow some theme and reason, but that kind of thing doesn't.

I feel like FromSoft might have used ideas from the 6th tablet in Elden Ring, the Fire Giants and Trolls have a resemblance to the yetis with stomach mouths and their entire area is snow-cloaked.
What a deep and nostalgic channel this is. One of the best I ever found in TH-cam.

As much as it would improve the experience to add a new archstone, truth is Bluepoint are gods at graphics and staying true to the original game, which is a blessing and a curse. Making new enemies and expanding the lore beyond the vision of the creators might be beyond their reach sadly, but we can still dream/hope for new content
