The poetic feel of the particular video is remarkable! Drawing a comparison between Yuria, The Maiden in Black, and Astra really carries you through the narrative beautfully and helps to really tie the lore together.

2:37 Just wanna say, the Maiden in Black _became_ a demon after the scourge began, as a means of putting the Old One to sleep. I highly, highly doubt she is responsible for waking it up the second time. It was rather explicitly the Monumentals who roused it the first time, and became Monumentals explicitly to bind the Old One there once they realized they f¥cked up. Not to mention, the fact that the candle maiden lives in rags and had her eyes blotted out with wax seems to support the idea that either the Monumentals (or perhaps King Allant's band, which traveled to awaken the Old One the second time) were none too happy about her becoming a demon.
Actually she is stated as having been the Old One's most powerful and deadly demon all along. That's most likely why she has the Nexial Binding on her and why she has her eyes sealed with wax. The Japanese text very much implies that she was captured by the Monumentals and forced to act as a counter to the Old One.
I find the story & lore of sixth saint Astraea absolutely fascinating. I know it’ll never happen but I’d love to see DLC or a novel or animated series depicting her pilgrimage with Garl Vinland from their homeland into the filth of the lands where they reside when the player finds them!

"When god and devil are the same, no soul is safe. Brace yourself with your mercy and wield your rage." Now, real talk. I think god is but a title for the being who has the power to mold the world. As an original god, i'd say the dragon god would be the first and the one to give the souls to humans, wich soul would be taken from the old one before becoming the first demon. Then the irrevocable poison decipted in the beginning wouldn't be an actual poison, but rather a corrosive ambition that grows upon anyone who used the power of souls. As such ambition grew and more souls were used and consumed, the old one attained enough power through the essence it once lost, divided into a soul wich was shared to mankind, and then retreived with more power due to mankind's actions. With such power surging from this first scourge, the dragon god would be overwhelmed by the old one who would be more powerful than ever, and started destroying the world as the new god he became. Just a crazy theory, but made sense to me as source of fire spells being the dragon god's influence over the past or something
By that logic, the Storm King should also be an ancient deity. It's just as rooted in its native culture, and it's implied that the cultists draw power from their worship. Its presence also seems to be the reason why dead things in the Shrine of Storms can reanimate. As for the armored spider, eh.
I like that the Old One is also the God. It reminds me of something I read not long ago: Buddha comes in many shapes and forms and the Devil has many faces. Buddha is also the Devil and the Devil is also Buddha. Good and Evil are just tools with which the Devil King controls the World, he needs a different Incarnation (Buddha) in order to appeal to even more people. For anyone interested, it is from 'Immortal Devil Transformation' a chinese webnovel translated on 'Wuxiaworld'. It is fully translated and you can still read it for free for a few weeks. It is one of the best webnovels I ever read, albeit what I just mentioned only plays a role in a later part of the novel.
I like the idea but I'm not sure it is true in DS. King Allant clearly states that "God is merciful, and so, created the Old One. The Old One will feed upon our souls" How can God and The Old One be the same deity if one created the other? It is an inconsistent theory.
On another of your videos you mentioned how souls provide thought and enlightenment, and the converse to this was the deep fog, which by nature obscures. That she received punishment seems to indicate that the Maiden in Black had a lot of agency in serving the Old One, but there's a similar irony to the souls/fog in that she is tasked to light the way for others, but will never escape the darkness herself because of the very same wax.
Interesting that miracles also come from the old one. That tells me it's not truly evil but a reflection of humanity. The Old One must have always been around. When humans are good you get lots of magic and civilization advances. When humanity is wicked demons arise and hastens civilization's fall.

The poetic feel of the particular video is remarkable! Drawing a comparison between Yuria, The Maiden in Black, and Astra really carries you through the narrative beautfully and helps to really tie the lore together.
Clicked faster than Raim staring second phase when you wear Velstadt's helmet
Oh great. Now I'm having flashbacks to each of my 30+ attempts to kill him the first time.

Bro gotta tell you, these Demon's Souls videos look SO good. It's so nice to see Vaati videos unchained from camera controls.
It is the means that justify the end not the end in itself. Once one convinces themselves that "the end justifies the means"... well they should not be surprised by the end they bring upon themselves.
A memorial to those souls who’s hearts were to kind for the cruel world that they lived in
Those brave and Jovial knights clad in their odd yet familiar armor charging into battle while understanding that they cannot escape they’re fate
Those noble and faithful clerics who heal the weak and dying and yet are still slaughtered
Those brave and honorable knights who fight to preserve the good in the world even as that world fades around them
And the innocent people who fall victim to the cruelty of this world and those who rule it
Can we just note how much photo mode elevated this video? Like some of the shots in this are beyond fantastic.
Gone mad with the blood of the old ones, subsequently hollowed, and now a depraved soul twice over. Yet I am still here patently waiting, yearning even, to prepare to cry.... for my good Lady Maria. How much longer will we suffer Vaati? Will this madness ever end 💀
If hollows existed in real life...

Hell yeah! Always down for these lore vids.
I just love the voice acting in Souls's games. Huge thank you to those amazing actors.
I never knew this game looked so much better than it did on your VaatiVodya playthrough. Also thank you for paying the Miyazaki tax at 3:39 now we might finally get Elden Ring news
It looks even better on a nice 4k tv
Thank you for keeping a newbie soulsborne player interested with the lore, the story is so sad, deep, and depressing.... I love it.
quiet griffith. You know this story all to well.
Wouldn't it be cool it Vaati was included as a storyteller in Elden Ring? From Software has to know about his contribution to this community
Vaati is kind of a premium fan, he gets invited to play the games before release and he did official merch
New vatti video thats not an art contest? Hell yeah!
This video is absolutely incredible. One of the lowkey best of Vaati imo and a really important window into Miyazaki’s philosophy of religion. 🙏
So excited to see your videos explaining elden ring bosses and characters
Your videos about bloodborne and dark souls are amazing
And its time for a new era to begin
yo you are the best youtube channel out ther, idk what our community of demon slayers or ashen hollows would do without you my man
The ps5 remake version lacks one thing that would've sublimed the title, its original score, I missed the oppressive and barbarian approach, what we have here is an epic touch that doesn't really match the ds' dna.
The lore is incredible yet nebulous, you sir managed to demystify and grasp details that need a lot of dedication and understanding. Thank you for your impressive work
Purchase the Digital Deluxe version. There.Problem solved.
@@theonewhoismany8072 You sir made my day, never knew about it since I still don't have a ps5. So my pick is now defined thanks to you once the console acquired
The video reminds me of a quote I heard a long time ago: “The road to hell is paved with good intentions.”
That just means the evil people took an uber and left 5 stars for the service
I always love so much the in depth lore of a world you can get just from the introduction of factions and a few characters with set opinions and views on other characters or abilities.
Damn you, you actually made me cry💔 i did not think this to be possible at the time but now, oh now the reality is to vivid to ignore, The colors are too bright
Vaati, your videos are truly top-notch! I recently started playing through Dark Souls 1, all the while listening to your epic Prepare to Cry and lore videos. You have quite the way with words. I can’t imagine how much time you must put into researching and editing every one of your projects.
This series has been needing to return for years thank you Vaati
Praise the Sun to being able to hear again your great lore masterpieces, Vaati. By far you are of my favorite content creator.
Good to see Lokey given credit. I subscribe to many of his theories and think they're very well written. Hopefully he uploads something this month!
"WHERE'S OUR PROMISED VIDEO VAATI?"
- Deranged Elden Ring Enjoyer
WILD!!! I just started replaying dark souls and binging your content during it because I was feeling nostalgic for the ds1&2 era, and then you upload a Prepare to Cry. serendipity!
"When god and devil are the same, no soul is safe. Brace yourself with your mercy and wield your rage."
Now, real talk.
Can't wait for the Vaati content for Elden Ring! Come on, Vaati, spill the beans! We know you have the Fromsoft hookup.
By that logic, the Storm King should also be an ancient deity. It's just as rooted in its native culture, and it's implied that the cultists draw power from their worship. Its presence also seems to be the reason why dead things in the Shrine of Storms can reanimate.
As for the armored spider, eh.
@@davidhong1934 armored spiders seems man made tbh
Vaati, my good sir, bravo 👏 yet again, you knock it outta the park, as per usual. Thank you! 🙏🏼
Lore, lore never changes, but it always seems to hit harder.
So many hours of my life have been dedicated to your videos. Keep up the amazing work
At this rate Vatti should go down as a legendary historian.
He should be a history channel instead of relying on fromsoft to release games in order to keep his channel alive
Elden ring should keep him busy for a while
Glad this came out today. The Dark souls combined helmet shirt arrived today and it's so nice.
The Old One will feed upon our souls"
How can God and The Old One be the same deity if one created the other? It is an inconsistent theory.
@Astral Guidance Perhaps God remade himself in response to the defilement of the soul.
Great visuals in this Vaati - really putting the photo mode to good use.
Yay a new upload. I was almost going hollow
Theres so much more Demon Souls lore to go over and you're the best person to do it.
Posting here because I can’t contain my Elden Ring hype waiting on you to post something EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH
Its always a treat to have one of these videos to come out
This was litteraly right on time for my workout. Beats out any movie for me!!
😁😁😁
Man these videos are so good dude. You need to do audiobooks. The lore on this game is fascinating
I can't wait to play the Elden ring! I'm sure it will be great content for your incredible narrative talent =).
This was such a great story here. Extremely deep, possibly the mlst meaningful area of all of demons souls.
This man hasn't lost an ounce of quality in eight years
Absolutely stunning. Your video is awesome in all aspects. As is your capability of sharing this beautiful lore and making it so emotional.
Good to hear Carla's voice actor reprising her role.
VaatiVidya your the reason I learned to appreciate the souls series, thank you 😊
VAATI NEW ELDERN RING TRAILER OUTTTTTT
When I was in college, Stephen Fry was in everything we read for Creative Writing. He's chief amongst teachers of the writing craft. Highly recommended.
All these soulstarved slayers of demons go down the valley to kill defenseless saints, but to they ever get kicked off any high places?
By Fina, it isn't fair.

Thanks for the book recommendation. I actually just finished Neil Gaiman's North Mythology and was looking for something similar to follow it up!
Quite possibly my favorite boss in all of the Souls games... Such a powerful moment.
Honestly instead of dark souls 4 a demons souls trilogy would be cool.
nah we gotta get Big Dark Souls first. Or bloodbornekart
Dark Souls 4 will never happen since DS3 is the last one
I mean like, the ending of the story
Bloodborne remastered running at 4k HDR 60FPS would be cooler tho
@@felipemarey1595 you’re right they’ll probably just pull a god of war and drop the numbers all together
Hell yeah, was almost asleep and then this shows up! Thanks Vaati, this was great!
I expected your Elden Ring Video two minutes after the trailer reveal yesterday :D I'm almost disappointed haha
No matter how much we think we understand The Lore, there's always more details to uncover. The environmental design alone speaks volumes, far more than dialogue or item description.
why isnt the lore video about elden ring out yet? the trailer has been out there for like 40 minutes
It's been a minute since you've posted some lore. Very happy to see this.
No matter her intentions for the sick, Astrea was ultimately still an arch demon feeding the old one. She was fully prepared to lead the world to complete destruction, all to give the sick a few more seconds of peace and give bloodied fetuses a sad second life as ruined walking monsters.
You are undoubtedly the good guy in this situation. She had to die and in my opinion, she was the most dangerous of all the arch demons.
The most dangerous monsters are the ones who believe they're doing good.
@@bmobmo6438 agree. There are none good, no, not one.
I’m addicted to these videos and I refuse to get better
Here I am still playing demons souls on ps3 and still haven’t found a ps5 to purchase. 😟
I swear I can sleep to this just cause how peaceful it is considering how calm but wise his voice is. Also please do a lore story about Giant Dad(Father of Giants) in Demon Souls?
Astria's story is so powerful. Ugh. 😢 Also Demon's Souls score is so, so good.
I love this series and this channel and I've learned more about a game I've never been able to beat that I deserve.
