Joscho Stephan & friends live - Blue Moon 2022!

On november 25th Joscho Stephan, Volker Kamp, Sven Jungbeck and Costel Nitescu performed an extraordinary concert at Gartenheim Hannover. One of many highlights was this 9 minute version of `Blue moon`. Besides the warm and unique arrangement of the tune, Joscho & friends showed off their brilliant soloing skills.
"Blue Moon" is a classic popular song written by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart in 1934. This may be the first instance of the familiar "50s progression" in a popular song, and it has become a standard ballad. Early recordings included those by Connee Boswell and by Al Bowlly in 1935.
Am 25.11.2022 gaben Joscho Stephan, Volker Kamp, Sven Jungbeck and Costel Nitescu ein fantastisches Konzert in der Reihe Jazz Club Hannover by Gartenheim im AudimaGH`s Hannover. Eines der vielen Highlights an diesem Abend war die epische 9 Minuten Version von `Blue Moon`. Neben dem einfühlsamen Arrangement glänzen Joscho und seine Mitstreiter mit herausragenden Solo Passagen.
Blue Moon ist im englischen Sprachraum landläufig die Bezeichnung für einen zweiten Vollmond innerhalb eines Monats im gregorianischen Kalender. In der Umgangssprache meint man mit dem Spruch Once in a blue moon entsprechend etwas sehr Seltenes. In astronomischer Definition wird damit der dritte Vollmond innerhalb einer Jahreszeit mit vier Vollmonden bezeichnet.
Dieser Abend war defintiv Once in a blue moon....

Smooth and consistent swing jazz with Joscho Stephan twist that gives it new life. Costel Volker and Sven are perfect partners for this arrangement. Glad to see Gypsy or Manouche Jazz keeping these classic jazz standards alive and well in 2022 and beyond. Thanks guys.

Another fine one from Joscho Stephan and his group. Don't think I've encountered such a pleasing version since I was in school and heard the Stephane Grappelli/Martin Taylor cover. Congratulations for getting a "fiddle" player capable of really hitting it out of the park. I cannot think of anyone other than Adrien Chevalier who can consistently nail that swinging, fluid, and immaculately bright sound so well.
