- Backpacking in the Fall ~ Porcupine Mountains Michigan - Hammocks & the dog? October 15th & 16th - This was our dog Brutus first time backpacking. He is a Jack Russell Terrier mix. Thanks! It's only about a 3 hour drive for us. The Porcupine Mountains is a very good area to go backpacking with 90 miles of trails. The mountains are small, but it's a beautiful area next to Lake Superior.
uptrail71 people, even me sometimes, get hung up on the size of the mountains, when what really matters is the quality of the views.

They are starting to change and this weekend I'm getting out for a small hike (small walk not hike) and I will be posting a video next week

It looks like you planned that trip for the perfect time. Looks like peak colors at that time. I live down in the Grand Rapids area and it's still quite green down here, but it'll be peak very soon.

Thank you for your TH-cam videos it's Bring Back great memories of when I used to live in Michigan I now live in Southern California San Diego area sometimes I miss the simple life of living in Michigan thank you for the memories I live in Detroit then Port Huron from 1960 two 1985 and moved to California thank you keep up the good work love your videos
Thank You for the nice comments! Michigan is a beautiful state and the Porcupine Mountains is only a three hour drive for us. Last summer we drove out to Wyoming for the first time and someday we will make it out to California.

Backpacking is our favorite, but we still do some car camping. Getting out into the woods is what's all about. Nothing wrong with having some extra amenities!

This was a relaxing low mileage trip with the beautiful fall colors. Nothing like my 32 miles in 24 hours hike last summer at the same place.

Thanks for the sub! The U.P. of Michigan has some of the most beautiful fall colors. It takes a little longer to change color along Lake Superior.

The dog stole the show! lol I'm glad that she likes backpacking. She also helps a lot around camp. The Porcupine Mountains is one of the best areas to go backpacking. You get 90 miles of trails with high cliffs, Lake Superior, streams, waterfalls and many developed campsites or you can set up camp with a few restrictions almost anywhere.
One of my favorite places to visit. I haven't camped there yet but have been on that look out many times and hiked there. Next summer I'm going to camp there! What an awesome camp site you had. GREAT video!
They have cabins available to rent. We want to give that a try someday. I recommend going during the dry time of the season.

It's funny because none of our trees have changed yet. And I'm not that far south of you. Great looking trip
Most of our leaves are gone now except near Lake Superior. The water is warmer than the air at night. We had a few nights in the 20's, but our house is inland. Lake Superior is 90 miles from us.

Hi camping By myself I don't drive to to get places for camping places have to take the bus or train or walk buddy friends take me then I can go car camping have done both I've noticed that I still have a bad habit overpacking I'm learning to let go into PowerClass I still have a hard time with this but I'm working on it but I enjoy going camping and regional Park campgrounds right now thank you for your response I continue to watch your videos on TH-cam
wow you got that one up fast! this is looking sharp, and the fall colors are Amazing. 65F is nice, good deal on the weather. I'll have to watch this again tmrw with Roxana she will love all these shots of the leaves looks like you got it near the peak. Love that you show a way to use birch bark without hurting the tree, too many people strip the bark right off. The place i get fuel tabs switched to the esbit cubes. they are good, i might upgrade to the esbit stove, so far still using them with the fold a stove. Excellent views at the lookout!
Tell Roxana that I said hi! Maybe someday we'll meet up somewhere in the future. I really like my esbit stove setup. We will still use the alcohol and propane stoves on a few trips.

Beautiful fall colours! They are not anywhere near as nice here. How was the dog in the hammock?
My wife went to bed in her hammock about 20 minutes before me and the dog slept with her. Overall he did very good! He only moved around a little maybe 2 or 3 times.
is your wife camera shy or just wanted in a few states? lol, her face does not make it in any videos.

Maybe a little camera shy! lol You do see her more in the Cloud Peak Wyoming video. The fall colors are beautiful and the campsite was perfect. This was a nice relaxing trip with the dog. He did very good for his first time.
